OMG this will be a great addition to my inflight 200 dc-10-30 western...that will help to complete my western airlines hawaii fleet...still waiting for a 727 and 737 to come out on the jet-x mould...cant stand the inflight mould. Now just need inflight to issue a 707-320 western swizzle stick. When and where can I order...hope packing is better...so mad the pan am's were the release that got screwed up by bad packaging...had to send my models back to my dealer....i know he wasn't happy either.

What Indian Head airlines are you guys talking about..??

Is it maybe Mohawk Airlines... I never knew they operated the 720 airliner..

The Western Indian head is a must in my opinion. It's such a classic livery! I'd also like to see it on a 727 and 737.
The Frontier arrowhead is also a classic, but it seems that few remember it now.

I have the IF Western Indian Head 707-320. there seem to be some variations in the white color between different air frames in the Indian Head livery that i don't fully understand. some are pure white and others are cream colored.

Anybody know the full history of the Indian Head paint jobs?

Awesome model, one that I've been hoping to get for many years. (I'm going to need more than one.)

Please release a WAL Indian Head 720B to go with it. (Ditto a WAL 737-200 Indian Head, a WAL 737-300 Bud Light and Frontier 737-200s in the Bow and Arrow and Saul Bass schemes.)

Go SMA!!!

Yes. It's definitely a slightly off-white color with (as you noted) a slight amount of crčme present. Depending on lighting conditions and angles, some photos can make it appear pure white - but take it from me, it was definitely not a pure white.

That color (and the Indian Head paint scheme) was used until a new red-on-white paint scheme ("Flying W") was announced in the fall of 1970 (in October or November, if memory serves). Repainting of WAL's fleet went rather slowly. As late as 1973-74, there were still some Indian Head airplanes flying.

The "Flying W" scheme (usually called the "Winnebago") remained in use until 1985, when the "Bud Light" (bare metal) began to come into service. Only about half of our fleet had been repainted as "Buds" by the time Delta bought us (merger was announced 9/1986). Repainting was suspended shortly thereafter, then recommenced in Delta's "Widget" colors. (Because of the merger, some Western airplanes were repainted twice in the space of a year.)

I was hoping we would see this someday, just didn't think it would be so soon! I've checked my normal retailers websites, nothing on them yet. Who's selling these in the US?

I see Diecast Airplane sells SMA, but I don't see the WA 707 on their list yet.

Hi, Pan Am. If you go to the SMA website, you'll find a list of their retail dealers (quite a few). None of them had it posted as of the last time I looked, but I'd expect that we'll see them start to be listed - hopefully in the near future.

The white shade used in the Indian Head scheme was "Navajo White". Had a good bit of yellow and red in it. With the Winnebago scheme, WA went to a very pure white.

And yes -- I remember fondly my days as a kid at LAX in the early 70s seeing Indian heads parked next to Winnebagos -- and Astrojets with lightning bolts still pulling up next to Luxury Jets and Liners. Plus four or five variations of the UA livery, with or without friendship stars and italicized fonts with a curly serif atop the U. Not to mention both old red and new pink PSA 727s. Those were the days.
