A Concorde SST? I don't remember seeing the Concorde like that! The engines look a bit irregular...

I have a decent sized room, so I can only fit about 30 models un here. Youre lucky you have a huge room to display all your models.

I've always liked having a model on my desk when I work, even if it's away from home base. Why 1:400, because 1:200 models got a little large for my carryon. TSA generally gets very confused by it but so far I haven't had one taken away for being a potential 'weapon'.

I think you mean a Boeing 2707-200 SST, don't you? Not many Concordes I know about with swing wings. Anyhow, it IS a cracker!!

Beautiful photos of some STUNNING models, though. Wow.

Yep... That looks more like a Boeing 2707 SST to me. The engines on the 2707 has a little triangle sticking out (I don't know what those engines with the triangle sticking out of the front are called...) I like your Concorde's and the 2707.

Of course... doesn't everyone live in a mansion? Seriously though, some of us on the forum are a little older and have..

a) been collecting for longer so that we have a larger collection and/or
b) are lucky enough to have a little more disposable income and/or
c) manage to devote part of our homes (that our wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband allows) to our collection. You can see some of mine in my BCal thread from a little while ago.

I'm with the other people who responded to this post. I don't buy a model that I don't like, and I can pretty much tell you where, when and how much for each model in the collection. It may be hoarding to some, but it is collecting and cataloging to others. That last part makes all the difference to me. I enjoy learning and researching the history behind individual planes and airlines that form my collection. There is a method to the madness. It is also a pleasant diversion (as all hobbies should be) from the demands of your real-world daily life. Ask my long suffering partner and she will agree that the research and history takes as much time as the buying, and how much I enjoy it. She has different hobbies that she finds absorbing.. each to their own.

okay... so at that average you should achieve 800+ models in about 17 years

the truth is i can remember each and every model and make i have and exactly where they're positioned in my collection (and i may even be able to pick out the exact plane blindfolded!)... but i have difficulty remembering where i just placed my darn car keys a while ago. i'm pretty sure those keys take on a life of their own and love playing hide n seek! same goes with my glasses...

What do we get out of this?

I want to see my daughter HAPPY and the Models do help in that way,

Aryelle has an Anxiety problem that she had ever since she was a toddler.

She has gotten better over the years but since we lost our little dog this past November, it has gotten worse again.

Watching her open the boxes of models that she receives with her eyes big and happy, is all the therapy we both need.

This is one of the reasons I help her and encourage her with the collecting.

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago suffering from depression. My aunt gave me a couple of Hot Wheels cars which from there I started collecting on my own. It started with Hot Wheels and I moved over to Greenlights and then a massive leap to 200th scale airplanes. Collecting and viewing my models helped me cope. It's expensive but so was the therapy and possibly the meds.

Just relax. I have to admit that I felt up some times with the threats that some times have no connection with collecting or even airplanes, I always read the title, make my negative thoughts and continue to the rest title which is interesting for me, and just for your information l pass the 800 model barrier for one reason. I bought maybe half of my collection direct from China in half the normal store retail prices. Of course now no space but I never sold a model for cash or space. Just for your information l have also many doubles. After having that number is pure ''Passion and way of living now'!!! If I don't get a model at least every week then something is bothering me! !

This really is a weird hobby, it brings out the weirdo in some of us. I am a 100% committed to anything that I agree with, very passionate and see no reason to give it up. Then one day I get an "aha" moment. Well to be fair it was forced on me by a marriage failure in 1996. At that time I had 100 aircraft models mainly 200 scale and 1400 model cars (old DINKY TOYS). Within weeks 1000 pieces were ready for auction ! Shame as they were supposed to be my pension fund. When the time is right to dispose you'll know, it'll just come to you and smack you right in the face. Until then just enjoy.

Totally agree with you as well, but have deleted the number of models I put on my post, so not to offend any one else, being of old age with no ties or a wife, and working in or around aviation most of my life, I have always been interested in this hobby, witch started with a collection I purchased many years ago, so over the years my collection has grown bigger Aircraft I worked on, Aircraft Ive flown on, Classic aircraft, and the main part is NORTHWEST & DELTA Airlines, witch I collect because my Brother worked for Northwest, now of course Delta, I also have two Gransons who are showing interest, in the models, so when they are older they will get them, and hopefully carry on

The more you collect, the more you think it's not expensive! You'll start with those cheap toy airplanes and move on to 1/200 plastics and then 1/200 metal, and 1/200 wooden, and finally... you'll start to collect all of the different scales and materials and brands!!!

Also have (130) in 1:400.
Have been collecting for 15 years.

In 1/200 scale: 400 diecast and counting; 360 assembled plastic(mostly Hasegawa) and counting...
Currently have run out of room/space to display. Add in another 230+ 1/72 models. Either more shelves, or time to rotate diecasts in/out of storage.(keeping boxes comes in handy)

you're right. and i almost always get the model on release since i've seen the price of the models steadily increasing, not by much but increasing nonetheless. i haven't been following the after market prices for civies much but my military collection has seen an average increase in prices of between 10-20% p.a. (some can command at least a 50% premium over their retail prices). no, i'm not into collecting as an investment... but it's nice to know that your ac's are worth more now than when you first bought them (although the actual value may be the same taking into account inflationary factors).

Basically the models you want just get more expensive every time you get a shot at buying it.

Actually, yes, I have, but it was delayed for like... 2 weeks! I thought it was lost in the depths of the facility along with all the other lost packages, but the postman delivered it to my door about a week ago. My package was a model from airlinemueseum.com, and it was a Herpa 1/200 Condor 763W "Janosch". Here are some pictures.
