Waiting for pictures, if the standard is the same as the DC 8 we'll have to make a difficult choice between SMA and WM.
That said, The SMA model is a B 720 B, this one is the original B 720.
Not the same …
… and the SMA model has to find a retailer in Europe.

From what I saw on SMA's post yesterday, Western and SMA are sharing this mould. So it should be the same.

Check out the photos on Adamjets website. It's the original Astrojet delivery for both the 720B and turbojet versions. The photos on his website really show off the beauty of these releases. Simply stunning - well done Andrew!

Certainly some exciting models there. I'm not very familiar with western models. How do they compare to JC or IF in general?

Both Pan Am models pre-ordered.

FYI the EZToys site has cheaper prices for these models, and free shipping too for the 48 contiguous U.S. states.

Not so fast.

The orange around the nose should cover the whole radome.

The logo at the L1 door is too high.

The wings should be gray not white.

I do not believe there were door outlines on the 720. I think they came later.

The photo provided by DC8-dude, that is a 707, but that livery is also desirable.

Other than these printing errors, the mold looks pretty good.

I look forward to the corrections and purchasing this AA 720 and 720B.

One more item; the AA720B should have the word AMERICAN in the orange by the nose and in the orange on all the engine cuffs.

EZToys and Waffle have pics of the models. So, looks like it's too late for any of your changes to be made.

Things are a bit confusing.

These models are supposed to be B 720s.
The American Airlines seems to be a B 720, but the PAN AMERICAN models are B 720 Bs and I guess that the Lufthansa (no picture) will be B 720 Bs too.

Before ordering a model, we need to know exactly what we buy.

Could we have more information from WM ?

I heard that a big chunk of the models had damages caused by a badly sized cradle. Mostly broken antennas. Anyone else hear this?

Where did you hear this? I know the recent Herpa Pan Am 707 had this problem and that's why I didn't get one. I have four of these WM 720s preordered and if they show up broken due to a bad cradle - they're all going back. I have zero tolerance for that kind of stuff.

Waiting on my two AA 720s. I've got both versions coming as well as the IF200 on order (with the AA Meatball livery). If I knew WM would release the meatball version I'd cancel my IF200 order!

Beautiful. It's a shame if most of these models turn out to be flawed because of this. But seriously, how hard is it to make sure the cradle fits the model. Too bad our retailers cant reject them all and send them back as defective.

The HOPE is it's a minor fix, but not seeing it in photos makes me wonder how serious it is. You'd think the factory would catch this kind of stuff, but for those of us that have to deal with Chinese factories the saying "This is China" comes to mind. The saying is NOT a welcome to their country. It's said with a sigh as you scratch your head and say "what were they thinking???"

Let's hope for the best - I'm really looking forward to these releases.

I haven't seen many photos either, certainly none that were detailed enough to show the potential problem. Lets keep our fingers crossed! My worry is that the antennas will be broken off at the base which means you can't just glue them back in.

I just ordered my pair this afternoon at "Aviation Megastore" as they were "currently unavailable" at "Aviation Retail Direct". The Megastore had them in stock. I don't want to miss these two classic beauties...

I agree, too pointed. And too big and too long also. I think this is also aggravated by the nose wheel which is too small. And the rear cockpit window that looks stretched out too much to the rear. The whole nose area has too much of a 'streamlined' out of proportion look to me.

After their excellent DC-8 model I was expecting a little more from this model too.

The two Pan Am 720s arrived today.

Pro: nice, clean tampo printing, sturdy landing gear with rolling wheels, antennas all present and accounted for.

Con: no supplied stand.

Besides that, they are very nice models, and welcome additions to my Pan Am collection.

One further observation:

both top antennas accounted for, but on one model (N783PA) the bottom antenna is missing altogether, while on the other model (N785PA) it was found loose in the box. I've tried to re-attach it, but even with the use of a magnifying glass and tweezers, its too tiny for my increasingly poor middle aged eyesight and dexterity.

Oh well, there are bigger things to worry about in life. Lovely models overall, though.

All four of my 720s (2 AA 2 PAA) are FUBAR. Eight of eight antennas broken off in the base, bent over sideways or snapped in half above the base, which is something I've never seen. The cradle is absolutely causing the issue because the relief blisters for antennas are way to small. It's laughable that this cradle somehow made it through QC. I feel for all the retailers who will be getting these models back which basically aren't repairable, at least mine aren't. Once I hear back from my retailer, I'll post pictures here.

My advice is stay clear of these Western 720 releases until this issue is fixed. I cannot see how one of these could possibly arrive undamaged as designed.

edit: one of the bent over antennas popped out clean. Still, only one of eight of the antennas in my order were fixable. SMH

Yes, the relief blisters designed to cushion the antennas are entirely too small. Nonetheless, I have three of the 720 models and none have broken or missing antennas. Need to give props to AdamJets.com for inserting cardboard strips on the sides of the plastic cradles to prevent the two 720 models I purchased from him from shifting during transit.
