JC Wings KLM B747-400 "new livery"

Hello people:

Here some pictures that I recently took to the Lady Blue, beautiful model. I was somehow not convinced about this purchase first, as I am not a big KLM fan, but after I unpacked her 2 weeks ago my satisfaction became complete.

Hope you you like the pictures, specially the first one. It was my first time doing a photo montage or recreation of this kind. I need to learn more tricks and edition procedures.

Greetings!

Erik

Great pics and a lovely model Erik, how do you do the background and the mid air pic? I take mine on my mobile phone so not sure i can do that.

Hi:

First of all, thanks for the comments. Well, as a I said, it was the very first time I did a montage and I found it somehow difficult to achieve.

To make these pictures, I used a Gemini tarmac foil, a panoramic background print of my local airport, my camera mounted on a tripod, window light (from the back) and Photoshop concepts. I have never read or seen a tutorial on how to make this kind photo montage, I did it all by myself.

Wished I could make it a little bit more natural photos with direct sunlight and outdoor but the weather in the last 2 weeks has been as it is shown in the background. 2 weeks of cloudy and daily heavy rain, it is a nightmare to mount this out in the backyard.

Actually, I set my "hobby studio" using my dinner table. I put the ground foil on it and the background print is set on a couple of chair behind the table. My camera is mounted on a tripod at the same height of the table, the angle counts a lot.

For the first picture, I took this picture and then another one with the same settings on the camera but without the airplane on scene. The rest is Photoshop concepts and tricks that I'm trying to develop, it is not easy, but with practice I hope to do it more natural. Basically I cut off the plane from the first pictures, did some retouch with tools and copied the photo in the background picture.

I don't know how other members achieve "in-flight" photos, I really admire their work and I guess the technique must be very similar. It requires a lot of time and patience, that's why I have never tried that kind of photos until now.

I did several editions as I tried to find a similar exposure between the background and the subject, I am trying to make the airplane looks more real than a fake image. Which one is the most accurate? Honestly I don't know, I would like to hear critics.

We have the "dolphin" model too and love her. She is in the Glass Cabinet and is on the shelf with the two Inflight200 KLM models we got.

We got all three from the same person and he knows who he is ;)

...great photo's Eric and great subject matter ..... I have committed to getting KLM's new livery models (with much reluctance from my wallet).... I have the Gemini B77W en-route and will follow it up with the Gemini B738wL and then this lovely beastie .....

.... like nurunet said, this livery is slowly growing on me ....... I still can't understand the slight 'tweak' in their livery but that's progress for you I suppose ........

Re: JC Wings KLM B747-400 "new livery"

The slight tweak was initially only ment for the dreamliner and embraers in the fleet, but as time progressed KLM decided to change the livery on all the types in the fleet. As other companies choose to use more (euro)white KLM decided to use more blue! So I'm happy, I like the new livery.

Glad you do to Eric, so I can watch this beauty in a very nice setting! Great pics!!

Great photos, Erik! Nice job on the "in flight" photos. I don't have the Photoshop skills to pull that off.

How do you like the new JC 747-400 mould?

Cheers,
AB

Gorgeous photos and as stated above, I wish I had your photography skills.

For some reason, though, I cannot seem to warm up to KLM's new livery. To me, it looks like the guys in the paint shop had a bit too much alcohol and painted the cheat line crooked.

Hello there!!! I am really impressed with this mold, the jewelry at the headlights is a nice touch. The only weak spot I can find is the flimsy landing gear, as I said on Vandan's MAS B744 Hibiscus thread, JC needs to improve a lot with that feature. Leaving aside that matter, the mold is great, the engines are very well represented.

The mold has high potential in short terms.

LOLLOLLOLLOL
That phrase made me laugh, I confess. LOL

I was not convinced with the purchase but somehow, when I unpacked this bird, it was a different story. Actually, I think the crooked cheat line is an original concept from the rest of schemes. Straight cheat lines are so common that they get boring to the eye after some time, that's what I found out.

It's a weird situation, I thought that KLM fans were attracted to this new scheme. Perhaps KLM should have tried a retro livery instead with a polished belly, dark blue cheat line, black mask, black radome and blank top on a B744. Sounds good, isn't it?

Something similar to this bird.

Yes, the crooked cheat line is definitely an original concept. ha ha! And yes, straight cheat lines get boring after a while. I will, however, tip my hat to KLM for keeping the blue.

My favorite KLM liveries are the one you show above and the '90s livery, like on the Herpa and Herpa Premium 747s.

But what is important, is that YOU love it and the model!

I liked the 90's livery. I have the Herpa B744 "City of Lima", bought it from robertjon5 some years ago:). I wonder why Inflight200 has not done yet that version.

Oh, the Herpa Premium, is a majestic piece. Perhaps one of the best 200 scaled models same as the HP American A300.

Re: JC Wings KLM B747-400 "new livery"

I plane spot KL 602 whenever I'm home and the flight plan calls for a right turn at the Coast. Apparently not the whole fleet is in the new livery.

Just saw PH-BFI Saturday afternoon and she's in the penultimate colors. Is there a 1:200 in that livery without the 95 Years? It'd be cool to have both liveries, and the delivery 90s one too.
