Post 1:200 models for me :)

Hello all!

I am just wondering if you have any suggestions or recommendations of 1/200 models for me to get.

Thanks!

Suggestion: Pick a favorite airplane or airline and focus on collecting that. If something else strikes your fancy, have a separate part of your collection for those too.

Plastic models are cheaper than diecast metal, but also less printed details and useally no antennas. Hogan, Herpa and Sktmarks/Risesoon are good choices. (listed in my order of preference). Herpa models are nice and some come with lots of printed details, but they are more expensive, sometimes almost as much as diecast.

Diecast metal modelsare more expensive, but also have more details like better detail printing and add-ons like jeweled lights and antennas. JCW/Gemini and InFlight/JFox models are at the top in my opinion, but Phoenix/Eagle make decent models too, some with less detain than the first two. Western Models are great for some older aircraft types like the l-1049 Connies, Electras and DC-8s.

I usually stick to one of these brands for most of my models and these are just my opinions. Others will have different ideas.

And finally, welcome to the wonderful (and expensive) world of 1/200 scale models.

Collect models that you want, not necessary what's popular or what has "value" to others. My wish list is long, and I know I'll probably fade in and out of this hobby without ever even scratching the surface. I have an Inflight Southwest 737-200 Last Revenue that, to my surprise, stands out as my favorite so far. But I'm from Southern California, and lived under the fly out path of Ontario International Airport, so the SWA makes me think of home. The bottom line is every model I have means something to me, and they weren't bought just to "have it" because others covet it, or I could sell it for a profit. Hope that makes a little bit of sense. Tell me what you think?!

I think the criteria Jean Pierre is referring to, is what type aircraft, or what airlines to you fancy?? Also, models from what era? Current day? 1970s? 1950s?

You decide what interests you, then check into which manufacturer makes it.

Yep, dont get sucked into everything... focus on whats of interest or special connection to you for you model collection...

My collection now consists of just 9 airlines and thats it... altho I have changed my airlines of focus here and there, but 10 would be my max as ive learnt over the years that you cant sustain having it all, plus space is a big factor as your collection grows...

Good luck with building your collection

Just collect what makes you happy period. I mean it's not rocket science, just buy a diecast model on eBay, any diecast model in 1:200 and than you analyse it. If you seem to like it or it appeals to you taste, than you might have your answer!
On the other hand if you prefer to build models, then you might what to look in a different direction, manufacturer Hasegawa has some nice plastic models in 1:200 of many different airliners, mostly Japanese carriers... But it might also appeal to your taste, who knows, you will never know if you don't try anything..

Hey!

I LOVE 747's!!! I only have one, which is a 747-8i Boeing sunrise rollout colours. Does anyone know where I can get a Hogan 1/200 Lufthansa 744? Also, are Herpa models made of diecast metal or plastic?

And for my criteria, these are the facts:

Hogan
Skymarks
Gemini
Herpa
1/200
Mordern jetliners please!
747!!!

Thank you!

If I'm not mistaken, the latest Boeing 747-400 Herpa released( Lufthansa "Fahansa") is a diecast model, using JC wings' 747-400 mould. http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...747-400-a.html

Not a problem at all. Well, I'm not sure about this, but I think most Herpa models are plastic, except some particular aircrafts. I think the Lufthansa "Fahansa" 744 mentioned above is Herpa's first diecast Boeing 747 model.

Hi

Oh. Never knew that! Do you think that there is a 744 of Lufthansa in the regular liver in 1/200 made by Herpa or Hogan? If yes, how much does it cost?

Thanks!

I'm sure there are. However, I'm not sure if you are still able to get them or not. I might be wrong though. Perhaps someone else can give a hand?

I know Hogan makes one. I have it and it is a decent model, although it doesn't have much printed wing or fuselage deatils.

Hogan's Lufthansa models don't come with landing gear so you'll have to buy sets separately if you want them.

......1:200 Herpa models mostly come in plastic (all the wide-bodied aircraft types do) but Herpa make metal ones as well with ones like the MD-80 and DC-8 etc.........

......the Herpa 1:200 Lufthansa (Fanhansa) B747-8i is a plastic model and comes with fixed gear (as do all Herpa models) and it is NOT a snap-fit type model (IE Herpa models usually come in a big box as the model itself is pre-made/assembled).......

......the Hogan 1:200 Lufthansa (Fanhansa) B747-8i is a plastic model and comes with NO gear and in a smaller box and it is of a snap-fit type (IE you have to assemble it yourself)....you can buy aftermarket Hogan gears to suit so you have the option of displaying the model in-flight or on the ground.......

......the Hogan 1:200 Lufthansa (corporate livery) B744 (B747-400) is available from a lot of European online sellers or you can fork out $600 for the metal one on eBay .....

......Skymarks also do the 1:200 LH B744 corporate livery (also a snap fit plastic) but the gears are fixed on this model (or at least they are fixed on the wings permanently) so you can't really display it in a clean 'in-flight' mode ......

.....die-cast is the means by which they manufacture the models (in a mould) so essentially you can have die-cast metal OR die-cast plastic models.....some people loosely coin the term die-cast when referring to metal models but this is technically incorrect ......

......collect models that you like and have a big 'read-up' within these sites as to what has been written or (more importantly) shown with photo's so you get an idea as to what you like and what collecting criteria you may form ......... hope this helps .....

Sound advice re eBay. In 1/200 the first model I bought was the Inflight 200 B737-200 in Piedmont colours as it was a real bargain and of an aircraft I like. Yes, you will hear the IF200 737s are not the best mould, but I WOULD say they ALWAYS look better in real life somehow, and they are the main producers of 737-200s that I wanted.

I liked the size and got really carried away! Once you get to widebody size space rapidly becomes an issue. Do you become a box-storer or a model displayer??

I have TRIED to rationalise things and try to build fleets of BA, BCAL, AA, Cathay Green 1980s, PANAM 1980s, NWA 1980s, TWA 1980sas well as 737-200s and 1-11s.

I now feel I 'need' 4x747s about to be released. God knows where they're going!!

If you are located in the Toronto area, there is Threshold Aviation and Aviation World.

They carry what you are looking for.

At threshold, I bought:

Hey rocky!

Did you know that you can sort of "custom order" a specific model from threshold and aviation world? Well, I mean that you can ask mark from aviation world and ask him if you can get a model just for you. You can do that at threshold too by asking the staff if they can get a model just for you too. Remember to say please!

If you like Hogan collectibles, any B777 should work. One of the best must be Thai's B77W purple tail or Pakistan B772LR "Quetta"

That's not correct. I have that model and it is made of resin and plastic parts. Mostly, Herpa models are made of plastic including Airbus family and the B747 series.

Herpa "diecast" (term wrongly referred to only aluminum manufacturing) models, as far as I know, are the B727-100, ATR42/72, DASH8 series, some propellers and military series and some other air-frames too.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm referring to Herpa Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 , not 747-8 "Fahansa", if you take a look at this thread: http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...747-400-a.html and their website: HERPA Miniaturmodelle GmbH - Online - Products (using JCW's 744 mould) , I think you'll know what I was talking about.

Just thought I'd add this thread to say I've been inspired by you all to start my own collection! After reading this forum over the past couple of weeks, and seeing some of the recommendations on how to decide what to collect, I went with the model that made me start looking in the first place; Gemini 787-9 Virgin Atlantic.

Given that I'd never seen a model in the flesh before - I am VERY impressed with the quality and feel of the thing. You'll have to excuse the photos (nowhere near as good as some of you) - but wanted to share!

I also got carried away and have the JF Models 747-400 9M-MPD 'Hibiscus' waiting at Hillingdon for pick up tomorrow. I've asked them to hold it because of what appears to be opinion on here that the BlueBox is better quality....the chap at the shop said he's happy for me to see both and make a call in the shop. Not sure what I'll be looking for though?! Any pointers.

Also have a passion for 747s - with what's currently out there - any tips on ones to keep an eye out for?

Hi everyone!

Sorry I haven't been posting any replies for a while! (I was away on vacation). Those are some great Virgin Atlantic 787's over there! They even have the antennas, and the circular hump on the top of the fuselage!

Do you know what that circular hump on the top fuselage does? Thanks!

And Miki, I know where you can get some sweet 747's. You can get them from www.airlinemuseum.com, www.eztoys.com, and some other ones I forgot. I have a 747-8i in the Boeing sunrise rollout colours in my collection. I love 747's too, see:
