Thanks, Robert. I am by no means a Comet expert, but it looks great to me. What do you think?

Thank you Robert.

A picture from above would be great to see what was done to the wings (ailerons and flaps), it's hard to tell from these pictures and these angles.

The model is representative of the last version of the Red Square livery :
Light grey fuselage.
Contour of the passenger windows in white.
Large fonts for the registration marks at the top of the fin …
…but … elevators should be white and no registration marks on the right wing.

A few photos showing the difference between the early scheme (Picture 1) and the latest.

Comments are welcome.

Jean Pierre.

Is this release only for ARD or will it be avaliable to other stores in the future?

well the ARD200 BOAC 747-100 is available 'overseas' so I think this should follow too. with limited liveries they would want to sell as many as possible everywhere.

Thank you, certainly hope so. Unfourtunately the BOAC 747-100 still is not in the pre order sections of retailers here in Holland. Hope that changes also because I'd love to purchase one!

Ok last time I checked for the postage to the NL (for the BOAC 747) it was 56 euroos!! Or am I doing something wrong on their site??

Almost worth getting a cheap flight and picking it up in person. I suspect the weight is quite hefty and the box rather large. Posting stuff isn't as cheap as it used to be I'm afraid.

Re the Comet, I wonder if this is the final product. ARD have only got them on preorder at the moment which suggests the finished product has yet to be delivered to them. The above model is being offered by Bundy's Books and Models on eBay which appears to be some sort of online shop set up by ARD in an attempt to shift stock. It mentions an estimated delivery of the middle of July which suggest again that they do not have the model in stock yet.

Perhaps the photo is of the pre-production model we have already seen, or maybe of a different prototype?

Oh hang on, having just seen stevec's thread, forget everything I have just said...

i will ring ARD for you and check. just checked with transglobal express who I use for parcels which weigh over 2 kilos and 90cm in size.

a 3 kilo box, 45x45x35cm in size is ONLY around £20 gbp for ME to post to you!!! so ARD price must be wrong. I could post one to you for £120.00 gbp max.

Thank you very much! I've emailed aviation megastore here in the NL and there is a very good possibility that they are going to sell the ARD house brand. So that will mean I can buy the BOAC B741 and BEA Comet over here.. I will keep you guys posted!

Again, thank you for your nice gesture! Much appreciated!

Yes Danny, I saw Steve's pictures and my comment was very short : I'll pass.

I am very disappointed.
The wing is inaccurate, nothing has changed, on the model, the ailerons and the flaps have the same chord, it's wrong, it's guesswork.
The landing gear door on the main struts seems a bit too narrow but it's a minor flaw.
As I already said, with this livery, ( the last one with the Red Square), the stabilizer should be white.

I remember that when a manufacturer released a Trident some years ago, a British DA.C member said : "It is not a Trident".
Today, I say : "It is not a Comet".

I attach a few pictures of my Comet IV B, a 15 years old DH Model, not perfect but it is still the best Comet ever produced.

Jean Pierre.

It's all down to opinions and I respect yours JP but to me the new model is much better than the old DH model. Whilst I agree they haven't got aspects of the wing quite right and the grey stabilisers are a faux-pas, the nose and the engine intakes, which are totally wrong on the DH model, are much more accurately represented on the new mould. These are, to me at any rate, far more important aspects of the model than an inaccurate aerolon etching.

The Comet is an important aircraft to me and whilst I will reserve my full judgement to when I get to see it in the flesh. However, nothing I've seen so far is denting my enthusiasm for its impeding arrival.

I wonder whether there may have been some diversity in the livery? Looking at airliners.net photo 0227507 the Comet has large font registration but the tail plane looks more grey than white...

You are right, but this diversity lasted a limited time.

When a change of livery is decided, it cannot be made overnight on all the fleet.
For operational reasons easy to understand, some planes had to fly with an hybrid livery.

With ref to the livery variations on the BEA Comet 4B. Here's my original, unrestored Skyland 1/50 4B, with a small 'red square' logo on the fin. It did fly in service with this small logo on it, but for how long I don't know.

Default Re: Final UPDATED ARD200 BEA 4B COMET PICS

My copy arrived the other day. I don't normally get the tape measure out to check the dimensions but I thought I would on this occasion as there appears to be so much interest in this new mould.

The Comet 4 series of aircraft utilised two different fuselage lengths and two different wings over three separate variants. They are as follows, with the 1:200 scale equivalent measurements to the nearest mm:

Comet 4 fuselage: 33.98m (170mm)
Comet 4B/C fuselage: 35.96m (180mm)

Comet 4/4C wingspan: 35.05m (175mm) Fitted with pinion tanks, no wing fences.
Comet 4B wingspan: 32.92m (165mm) Fitted with wing fences, no pinion tanks.

This first release of an ARD200 Comet is a Comet 4B and should therefore have a 180mm fuselage and 165mm wingspan. The actual measurements are as follows:

Fuselage: 171mm
Span: 171mm

Whilst we are not party to what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to designing a new mould, I'm guessing that to save on the substantial production costs the fuselage is a one size fits all mould. It's only a tiny bit too long for a Comet 4 but 9mm to short for the 4B/4C.

The wingspan sits midway between that of the 4/4C and 4B but will of course need to be adapted when they come to produce the 4/4C with removal of the wing fence and addition of the pinion tanks.

In effect they appear to have done what Aeroclassics did in 1:400. It is a compromise, not ideal but if the alternative was to not produce a modern diecast Comet in 1:200 that retails at seventy quid at all, maybe a compromise worth making.

Opinions will differ as to whether the mould is acceptable or not. It does have issues other than dimensions - chunky landing gear, incorrectly shaped flaps - and I can see why it might be unacceptable to some. However, for me I will take the compromises for a chance to own a 1:200 Comet that, unlike the Sky Classics model, looks like a Comet. Despite the one size fits all approach, I find the model very attractive and am delighted to have it in my collection. It won't be the last and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Dan-Air 4B.

Thank you Neil, I love the Comet and your model is exceptional.
The Comet (with, sorry, the Caravelle) is certainly one of the most elegant jet liners ever produced.

1/50 … that means that your model is 72 cm long …

"Looky down on top" shot shows that overall wing shape looks reasonable. And if they'd done it in earliest scheme they could have followed the flap lines for masking. Would have looked better, but always wiser with hindsight!

Reg on wing top for delivery but removed for revised follow on scheme with large tail logo.

I think they did use the flap lines for masking Graham. Unfortunately, the flap lines are wrong! The overall shape of the wing is, as you say, reasonable. The red paint should have been done with a kink along the trailing edge though. This won't be an issue in non-BEA Comets of course.

Re the gear, just been having another look and the wheels look about right. It's the struts that are a bit too thick but it is quite a heavy model so I guess they had to make the strong enough to support the weight?
