Default If200 ...boxes!

Yes, sorry, not the models...
I'm bored, nothing new arrived, yet
...so I thought at least I'd photograph the boxes
from my latest INFLIGHT200 models...

Since I dont have a cabinet to display them, at least the boxes do make a nice change now when I stack them on the floor...
please be aware that colours may vary .

anyway, you cant say Da.c is a boring place,
this is a first, models boxes right?!
Maybe I'm starting a new trend, I dont know...packaging is a vital part in any marketing.
...here they are

true, they are a bonus to the models, not the other way around, as I see it
Some guys here have said that they throw the boxes away, or dont really care, I always keep my models and their boxes, thats why those 1.400 Dragons and Geminis sold a while ago were still MINT !
From a collectors point of view, ask any collector, real collector, whether it may be an aeroplane model, a car, a train set, they always go higher in value if you keep the original box!
I have vintage ETs, Corgis, Hasegawas, etc, even my Starwars figurines like Jabba and Darth Vader, Leia, R2D2 and C3PO; they are all kept mint in the boxes !
Call me crazy, theres worst outhere I'm sure!
Here they are for a family photo;

i know exactly what you mean... and i'm playing tetris with 'em boxes in storage (since they take up more space than the models themselves!). but no, i don't keep 'em in their boxes... a thing of beauty is meant to be displayed. fortunately i've got the space for both displaying 'em birds and storing their boxes. at least for now...

Just curious those people/staff faces on the boxes would be paid bonus/copy right from IF....maybe a freebie of a model?

When an airline or any other company wants to promote their image, and they go to their staff, they are requested to allow for image use in any of the airlines or companys promotion in the future, so they are actually part of the promotion itself. Usually they agree to be photographed, wearing the companys uniform, etc, and in very rare cases they get any sort of payment. Its all in the " company spirit" and good will. I know what Im saying because we had something similar going on last year, for promotional purposes of our new image.
So my guess is that when IF has a fully licensed product, aircraft models in this case, the images used are also part of that license, Including the people portrayed in the boxes.
It makes sense.

Inflight serious error or not?
The box clearly says One World, and then the model bears the logo of Star Alliance.

I think that a serious error, really really unforgivable, almost end of the world, ... would have been a SKYTEAM logo on the model !
They went from Star Alliance to One World, so its not completely wrong!
Doesnt bother me

the old Kit boxes always had amazing artwork! As a kid, and not knowing that much about aircraft then, the image in the box would fill my imagination, as it worked Im sure with so many of us.
I still have my Hasegawa unassembled, and those boxes and kits inside bring me back very fond memories.

I was really impressed with the effort IF 200 made for the box art of the AA Convair 990, they managed to find some unusual old photos of the cabin, and some rare shots of mechanics and pilots around the engines.

They also did a nice job for the AA DC-10-30 release last year, and the TWA L-1011 has some photos I remember as a kid in a brochure I had from TWA about their new 1011. I wish I still had that brochure, it must have just gone in the trash without any thought to its sentimental value in later years! Same for the EA L-1011 and soon-to-be released AA DC-10-10, awesome retro photos.

I also think GJ200 has classy, sturdy boxes. I like the snap-open feature and am happy they changed the white styrofoam inside for their 777s to the same spongy material they've used on narrowbodies. The styrofoam used to "bleed" and leave a pattern on the bellies of the 777s- my BA 772 has the pattern of the styrofoam on the blue part of the belly, but it's barely noticeable. Before I let that happen to my precious BA 773, I lined the styrofoam with plastic so the belly isn't in contact with it, and have had no problems when I have to store it. My AF 772, AF 773, UA 772, AA old colors 772 and AC 773 have styrofoam as well, but for some reason, it never left a mark on the belly of any of them. Maybe because BA has a dark blue belly.

People really throw away the boxes?! What would you do if you have to store your models, or if you're moving? I always keep every one.

Ultimately though, I think any box is good as long as it protects what's inside.

In the case of the AA CV-990, chances are good that many of the people in the photos are no longer with us- they were taken in 1962, and a Captain of the 990 had to be senior! It was a desirable aircraft for the pilots to fly, being a little rocket!

Pretty boxes. Overall not my prime concern, but a nice extra. My main issue with IF boxes (at least recent ones, e.g. KLM 744 and A350) was that the sleeves sit super tight. Makes it a little difficult to get the inner box out/back in. I also like the Gemini boxes, they seem sturdy. Although some of my smaller models (A320 family, 757) show a lot of wear on the boxes, especially the folds. I did somehow appreciate the G200 Virgin 789 box which had a Styrofoam bottom and plastic top. That way you could see the model very well when opening the lid of the box.

Very nice, those box covers by inflight nowadays. A lot better than they used to be. Must also say, the Gemini boxes are the best for me.. Sturdy and solid and always nice in black. Love some of the Herpa boxes aswell.

A nice feature would be to also include a reprint of a promotional flyer or brochure (if available at he time). Socatec did this for the Air France Caravelle.

Ummm WOW when did IF start printing boxes like that ? I only have the one IF model and the box is as boring as a JCW box. JCW boxes just suck in general and your lucky if you don't get one that's been kicked around the factory floor

+1 here mate, I also love the little bit of airline history/info that IF now seem to be printing on their boxes, and the artwork is really original!

I can't wait to see the boxes of the ANZ and QF 747s that are coming out.

It seems that INFLIGHT200 is moving ahead full steam now!!!
The beautiful latest releases, all the tiny details back on their B747 mould,
the great new heavy moulds for both the L-1011 and DC-10,
the brand new B777-300ER mould with a great amount of printed details as seen in those pics already,
last year both Convairs 880 & 990 moulds, ( retro rules ) not forgeting the Comet 4 for ARD,
and God knows whats coming soon...they are back on their own tracks!
The Sky is the Limit!!!!

But again...what do I know......?!

The real collectors around here deserve that. And everybody is free to choose what models to buy, and where to buy them from. I'm only the messenger! ...with a crummy camera!

Wow, the new IF200 boxes are really, really nice! I love the vintage advertising, and especially like the AA DC-10 box showing the employees and the airplane behind them. Their new boxes are so much nicer than the original 747 box sleeves, which have always struck me as somewhat half hearted.

However...

The biggest issue for me, regarding IF200's boxes (I am talking specifically about the 747 models, of which I own around 50), is they do a poor job of protecting the models. I have had several IF200 models arrive broken, but never a damaged Gemini.

And since I don't display empty boxes, I can't really put a lot of stock in pretty advertising.

I have always preferred Geminis boxes, with their soft inner packaging, and snap closures. Their boxes have always been the gold standard for me, as they are easy to open, and do a great job of protecting their fragile cargo.

Thanks for the look at IF200's latest, though.

I'm considering getting an IF200 ACA L1011, but they are expensive

... a lot of nice Adobe CS skills involved here, congratulations!

I could also enjoy a blank box with a black & white sticker, which would maybe enhance the celebration of the content?! Just a thought...
