Be interesting to see their take on the Nalanji 747-300. I think the engines will be a big decider for me here...whoever goes polished, will prove the victor! gotta say, the IF200 743 is a good looking hull, so they have a challenge on their hands

Really?

Negi:
Where stays TK 773 number 3? Inflight hello? Why not the regular c/s?
QF Nalanji number 2? Perhaps Eagle will show up with one too?
Vietnam 777 nc number???? 3 or 4??? Why not the o/c?
UPS could have been nice if it was released in their regular old colors.

Are they killing the 1/200 scale?

Pos:
CX 748 is interesting! Looking forward to the ABC.
Like what Andy said the QF Nalanji with the polished engines will be bought.

Thanks for the heads up Willy. I just checked out their site Collectors Aircraft Models Australia Shop - New Releases . I had no idea Inflight was doing, the very first 747-300 standard Qantas fleet colours= VH-EBT, how long have we been waiting for this? Should have been released a long time ago. I guess this manufacture competition is working so keep it up guys

Indeed, a shame they didn't follow with the Gulf Air a330 as well, that's the one I really wanted from them!

This monkey see monkey do horse s**t is getting ridiculous! Andrew 'AC' does it the right way by announcing his releases when the retailers have them on hand, thus not having to see another brand announce the same list for future preorder 10 minutes after he shows his.

Oh well, flood the market then.

Great news - and worthy of a thread of its own... a certain buy for me.

But when you google the IF number there is only one site - CAMA which is odd, usually ARD is first cab off the rank with new IF200 releases

Maybe they jumped the gun with announcing it?

OK, obvious question: is this JC 747-300 mould going to be a new one...or are they going to "borrow" IF's? Someone else mentioned the engines and I agree. Either JC or IF need to do them polished and whoever does this will get my money.

It is getting out of control and it's comical because they are practically all the same company anyways. They need to to learn how to cooperate and everyone wins, instead of having tons of models sitting on shelves because the market is over-saturated with copycat releases.

No way it's going to be a borrowed mould! Not with JFox doing it on what would be the borrowed mould. JC has it's own 747 now, and adapting it from the -400 to the -300 will be an easy fix.

100% agree. Its taken all the fun out of patiently searching for an illusive model, and the satisfaction of finally obtaining it. Not to mention effectively killed the resale value of practically every model out there.

Totally ridiculous. How many Qantas (not to mention KLM) 747 models does the world really need? There are plenty of other airlines that are not by any stretch of the imagination well represented by this hobby. But no, we get the same models essentially being released simultaneously by every major manufacturer.

Oh well, nothing there that remotely interests me. All those buying KLM and Qantas models in bulk must be thrilled to bits, though.

I doubt it. All ready pre-planded with exclusivity with all concerned! I expect This Qantas 747-300 standard colours will be a totally exclusive release to Collectors Aircraft models Australia with limited numbers on production and that's it. ARD & Jetstream may get a few copies each in time. A subject I have been campaigning for for at least four years with CAMA. That's why not on ARD or Jetstream USA thus far

If you want this plane in diecast, this is probably your best bet. Now that Inflight has been outdone by JC's mold with the 747-400, expect more IF 747 classics, where they still have no competition.
What was you saying about JC's B747 mold? No 300 version? Oh, and guess what, they even announced a -8F version. Finally! NEVER SAY NEVER.

Sorry, but the fun for me is having a decent collection of aircraft that I like and want and not paying a fortune for it. I hate finding a model that I want and finding out it will cost me 2x to 3x what it originally sold for. That is what kills all of the fun in the hobby for me.

I welcome ALL of the re-releases and the new models too. After all, I think this should be a hobby, not an investment. The only problem for me is I now can't afford every model that I want because so many are being released at one time.

i feel your pain... really i do. it's like you kinda wait all your life for certain liveries to be done, then suddenly they all appear together by both of the top guns in the industry. the tropical... the hibiscus... the wunala... the nalanji...

... and then you're faced with the dilemma of not getting them now and having to pay the price for getting 'em off the secondary market in the future. kick self moment, that

What's inevitably going to happen to many collectors (unless they have hoarding tendencies) is that if this pattern continues, they will obtain all of their "Holy Grail" models basically simultaneously (and in very short order). They will then be left, like a child on Christmas morning, who has received every single toy on his or her exhaustive list.

With no model left to wish for, search for, it will be an empty feeling. What do you do when a collection is complete? Move on to another hobby? Or do you keep going, willy nilly piling up more and more models, per an ever widening collecting criteria?

I stand by my original statement: part of the fun of this hobby is the search. I don't mind paying a sizeable amount for a model that I have long searched for). I like finding something that is rare, that others are looking for too. I don't worry too much about the cost (within reason, of course).

With all these "Holy Grail" models stampeding onto market, anybody can basically obtain one. There is, then, little satisfaction or pleasure for those collectors that value owning a rare, very sought after model, because there is basically no such thing anymore.

There are two schools of thought for those in this hobby. There are collectors(hunters) and fleet builders(gatherers). Fleet builders don't care if their models are rare, and really don't pay much attention to the value of their models. They love to add as many models as they can to their fleet and they don't care if it's a crappy $30 plastic model or its first rate diecast equivalent, just so long as long as adds to the fleet. The collector is different. When I hear the term collector - I immediately think comics, baseball cards and coins. There really are no fleet builders in those hobbies. It's all about finding valuable and rare items, building your collection and and having it appreciate over time. I guess that's where the term investor/collector comes in.

Maybe I fall into the collector category because I also collect coins and I came into this hobby with that mindset. Like wu6fiend - I cannot stand to see models I worked hard to obtain get re-released, and then re-re-released. It's madness. I care about the value of my model collection and when my models get re-released, I can't help but think of those as bad investments that I overpaid on. Personally, I think collecting should be hard. There should be much more demand than supply, the thrill of the hunt and whatnot. When I can just go anywhere online and find any plane I want for cheap, it's like going into any coin store and finding a complete set of Carson City Morgan Dollars for spot value. Takes the sport out of it.

i'm with you on this... and will kinda be semi-retired upon the nalanji release being at the tail end of this sudden deluge. these were my "holy grail" and as you can see, i'm that child on christmas morn:

1. sq tropical
2. mh hibiscus
3. mh heliconia
4. qf nalanji
5. qf wunala
6. tg royal barge
7. jl disneysea
8. air force one

i say semi-retired since i'll get any of these if they ever get released... but they're not high on my wanted list:

9. qf yananyi
10. jl disney anniversary scheme

neilc777... nicely put. there's just one other category... the mutant, or to be politically correct, hybrid. i kinda fall within that category... a fleet gatherer as well as a collection hunter. i cannot however say which is dominant. i used to think the collection hunter was... until inflight and jc gifted us hunters with so many prized models

I agree that the current mega release of models is over kill and really a direct result of the cut throat war that seems to be going on with the two main 747 manufacturers, but I'd be a hypocrite if I said I was totally against it, as I have quite a few on order:

Qantas Wanula and Red
Malaysia Hibiscus
Iran Air SP
Air New Zealand turqoise

I am mulling over these too:

Nalanji
Malaysia standard scheme

I also bought the SQ tropicals, so I am in the camp of happy chappies with what is being released, though I do think the releases could have been spread out a lot more.

Despite this, I still get a great thrill obtaining a rare gem and was chuffed to source a TWA twin globe 747-100 after months and months of hunting!

I do feel sorry for collectors who have had models massively devalued due to rereleases, and always KLM springs to mind, I remember when I got into this hobby and a KLM 747 commanded a massive price, now there are loads of them! Must be a bummer for those original collectors.

I do feel a little like the kid at Christmas too, although I am a long way off retiring, there are still many 747s I would love to see in my collection one day, some rare, already released birds such as the SAA Springbok 747-200, and the United Blue Tulip 744, and some as yet unreleased models such as the NW bowling shoe and the SAA Springbok 744!

In my opinion there is much life in the hobby, its far from dying, but I'd also say its definitely changed...I am a late starter myself, only started collecting at the beginning of last year, but I am happy with what I have got, and will continue to enjoy what the hobby has to offer, both on the new and the second hand market.

Happy hunting to you all!

Love to hearing that and I like most of it.
The best I like is the Cathay B747-8 B-LJA "Hong Kong Trader"
I had waiting for this for long time.

If your in the hobby looking for an investment you better get out fast. I've seen it with the old herpa and hogan models that were once worth a lot but when their diecast counterparts came along the value dropped. This will happen again and again with manufacturers bringing out new, improved moulds. So you should really only pay what the model is worth to you and not think you will buy it as investment. That way you won't be disappointed when you see the market value decrease.

yups... get something that's gonna put a smile on your face for years to come, whatever the reason. so long that that reason's not investment (zinc rot, better moulds, better technology etc etc etc)

Too much of one fleets aircraft types, in a short space of time time , taking the fun out of the collecting ( and the financial aspect too )
eg Recent announcements in just a sample of fleets -
Vietnam 2 (bet it will be 3 soon with a 787 soon delivered)
Qantas - too many to list
ANZ - 772,773, 789 x2 743 etc
KLM - again too many and 2 liveries (with the 95 years and livery update.)
Better slowing the pace and getting thing like printing accuracy right etc etc
Great that these special liveries are getting done - if only in the likes of Qantas, they spaced them out a bit - say one a month.

You wished for wanula, nalanji, hisbiscus, tropical, klm, eva, thai boat and others and now they are coming fast, What are you going to do when you have the holy grails in the collection? All of you ? I think this hobby may die, not because of re-releases but when the day comes that we have everything we really really want, And i think im almost there in 1/200 except a Garuda Indonesia 747 and ive only picked up on 1:200 in about the last 3 months

I think there is a difference between having a lot of releases as opposed to one manufacturer doing all it can to put other manufacturers out of business. We all understand that Johan wants to be in control of anything diecast (he already produces, controls (?) all of Gemini and most of the Herpa non-plastic).

I don't think the hobby is dying at all, it is only growing as more people from around the world obtain the funds to collect, and the wider range of country's airlines represented will appeal to more and more people from these countries.

For myself personally, I have a number of 747s that I wish to obtain one day, a brief incomplete list would be as follows:

Second hand (including many new releases I can't afford at the moment):
Pan-Am 747-100 - both liveries
Eastern 747-100
American Airlines 747-100
Continental Airlines 747-100
United Airlines 747-400 - blue tulip and conti colours
TWA 747-100 - red titles

Air Pacific 'Fiji' 747-400
Boeing 747-400 - house colours
Boeing 747-400LCF
Boeing YAL-15
Nippon Cargo 747-8F

As you can see, this is quite a long list, and it will provide me with many many years more enjoyment hunting the second hand birds as well as perhaps anticipating the release of some of the above listed birds, which are yet to see reality.
Yes, if all these models were landed on my front door tomorrow, I'd probably feel somewhat unsatisfied, but even if they all were available, I couldn't afford to get them all at once! I'm sure over time there will be re-releases and improved releases too, I for one would buy a re-released BA Landor 747-400 in an instant, even though my current «ity of London'is not too bad condition, I certainly wouldn't resent it...I'd relish it in fact, especially if it were 'G-BNLT' City of Lincoln, my childhood home town!
I think all this talk of the hobby dying is BS to be quite frank.
