Ooh lawd!!! I have the Detolf shelving from Ikea, really like it but I have tried not to overload very much. I used to have A380's on the shelves, not I only put them on the very top out of the glass or on the very bottom shelf because I am afraid under the weight of those heavy models they will collapse.

Crikey! The United Arab Comet 4 fuselage actually broke in half!!! Must have made a heck of bang when it went. Thinking I'll get some structural tests on mine. Are you insured ?

That is a horrific photo. I do not collect Corgi. I would send you a model no charge to help with the rebuild. Again,as a collector,I am sorry you need to sort this mess out.

O-M-F-G! That is sickening to see. I am so sorry to see this. Sorrier yet, as when we moved almost 2 years ago, I purged about 90% of my Corgi propliners. If only I had the foresight . . .

Sorry again to see this Modestos.

1) I am sorry that happened; if it did to me I would be driven to drink.

2) I did not know there were that many Corgi models. They like a good product; I do not know much about them.

3) In life too much of a good thing sometimes comes back to bite one in the ***. This has happened to me - though not with airplane models.

I hope that your recovery from this disaster is quick, easy and provides satisfaction. For today I know you are devastated and I would be too.

Ouch. Hope that you can salvage/fix the majority of what was in there. When I added some glass shelves to my own bookcases, the glass supplier and I had a LONG discussion about the weight that would be placed on the shelf, and what supports would be needed.

Looks like your glass was weakened, of there was just one model too many...

Very sad to see this happen to any collector. So sorry to see this post Modestos. Photographs of models may help with your home & contents insurance policy, however, replacing rare or sold out models is a different story, next to impossible & totally devastating. Hopefully a large amount of your collection can be restored. Some look like complete right offs though I hope the nice offers from the retailers like Malcolm from Airspotters will help you out & that is nice wherever they can. The shelving looks like it is 3-4mm thick. I have two cabinets thus far and the shelves are 6mm thick toughen saftey glass rated to 10KG per shelf, with another four to follow soon now I have hijacked another room in the house! I am sure these are made in Taiwan if I remember the cartons from last year. Maybe you can hunt down a retailer of this unit in your country Modestos.

DELUXE FRAMELESS UPRIGHT GLASS SHOWCASE
1200 & 1500
Premium quality frameless structure. 6mm toughened Safe Glass.

Supplied in easy to assemble kit with, premium push lock.

5 adjustable shelf levels with 50mm increment up/down height adjustment

Shelf capacity - 10kg per shelf level UDL
(Universally Distributed Weight)

Excludes middle partition for greater dispay capacity

5 x 6mm thick (FHU-1200 1150mm, FHU-1500 1450mm) wide x 400mm deep with reinforced supports front/back

Optional black lighting pelmet (not pictured)

Ooooh! Those Corgi's would have been more than 10kg per shelf I reckon

I have my 200 scale connies on 10mm glass. 14 per shelf @ 250 gms = only 3.5kg per shelf.

Can't think of anything worse for a model collector. Had to be the top shelf giving way and then a resulting domino effect.

Like many, these Corgis were the reason I resumed model collecting and it's so sad to see your pictures.

Being in a cabinet, you avoid the dust but blimey this is a high price to pay.

No dust is in every shot, and it does add weight sadly in every piece, but exceeding weight bearing loads is most likely the cause. This should bring a reality perspective to all of us. I see weight bearing loads on plastic lugs and a bow in the glass shelf #2 starting structural integrity breach like most of you.

That's the worst thing that can ever happen to a collector, I'm very sorry for your loss

Curious what actually gave way? Was it the glass shelf that cracked or one of the peg legs? Considering that this is a frameless case, I was curious how the peg legs worked? Most cabinets the stubs are within the wooden frame so it offers more support
