Default Three New Heavy Metal DC-10's Landed

Picked these three beauties up this afternoon, all made by Aviation 200 but on the Inflight heavy metal mould, AIR LIBERTY DC-10-30 F-GPVA in the British Airways livery, and two DC-10-40's of NORTHWEST N162US in the bowling shoe livery & NORTHWEST ORIENT N145US in the thermometer livery, all three models have great detail, the Northwest Orient, comes in the polished finish, although the only thing that spoils this model the tail fin has been done in the bowling shoe colour and not red witch it should be in, but no big deal I can repaint the tail fin at a later date, any way here are some pic's for your comments.

Air Liberty DC-10-30 F-GPVA

The belly blue on the Air Lib looks to be regular BA blue instead of what appears to be a lighter shade on the real plane in all the photos I have been able to find.

That said, I never saw this bird in real life, and can't wait for mine to arrive. I had a Laker DC-10 that was about to become a sacrificial donor to make one of these. Does anyone need a laker model?

Hi Erik, to be honest I don't see a problem with them, if you compare it to a picture of the real aircraft, to me they are the same, and looking at all the other DC-10 models I have, they look the same hight, but pictures are not always true maybe try and see the model in the flesh, then you can decide for your self, I also have the original bowling shoe version from inflight, and it seems compatible with that one.

Hi Rui, Aviation 200 released a Northwest Orient version DC-10-40 back in 2012, As for the delivery it was quite big, in Phoenix 200, BA B777 panda, Virgin A380, Various B787's, in Aviation 200 Northwest DC-10-40's, Air liberty DC-10-30 plus Inflight 200, Aero Mexico 10's, more Monarch 707's Varig 747's, EL AL 747's, thats some of the models I saw, as poor old Trevor was un boxing them, plus there were boxes of Aeroclassics he had not even started on.

Hi cpa747, I actually spoke to Paul ARD & and Bob INFLIGHT, about that particular version, and at the time, they both said, it was in the future pipe line plus Fingers crossed, some of the NORTHWEST CARGO B747's.

Not to take anything away from your new models but does anyone think that something seems off with Inflight's DC-10 mould?

Me too...beside the pax windows, I can find a dozen of flaws on this DC-10 mould, we have no choice but have to accept since this is the only diecast in the market, with help from David Hingtgen, may be SMA can make a decent DC-10 for us in the future?

Big call describing the IF200 mould as less than decent. I think the DC-10 mould from IF200 is one of the best in terms of accuracy. There's a reason why these DC-10s have been selling out so quickly...

Try ask Mr. David Hingtgen, he know what is a DC-10 and can find more errors on this. Again, they are the only DC-10 in metal.

I think some Inflight DC-10s look better than others which may be due it part to some inaccuracies with the mould and how the windows are placed on one model versus another.

Herr Tonka doesnt miss a opportunity to say something bad about the competition...
He loves it! And still....we are waiting to see what he buys for his collection....
oh, yeah, he bought a PanAm Herpa B707 but it came with a broken antena....why dont you come out Tonka and spill the beans man?!

IF DC-10 is a good model, so they have the windows a bit high....other respected manufacturers have the same problem, JC prints them misaligned and curved on nose area on the 747-400, so ....why going that way man?!
Bet youre not buying this DC-10 then...or any If Dc-10 right?!

As for SMA, I think they have come up with a far more than "decent" MD-11, giving a chance to buy something good instead of other MD-11s!

Im starting to enjoy metal, another metal aircraft model landed today!
And yes, its an old IF !

Hey Tonka,

We sure as hell don't want JC to do a DC-10!!! The reason the IF200 747 quality went down over the last few years is because for some strange reason Inflight let JC make their 747s? I hope Inflight will remake the 747s that the JC factory made someday. I learned last week that JC made the Boeing 707 for Herpa......what a mess JC made of that too.

The mould looks great. No need for another DC-10, I only hope Inflight can pay some attention on the placement of the windows.

I think part of the problem of window placement is due to how the model is polished after casting. You'll notice that the nose area of the DC-10s are all slightly different - this is due to the manual polishing of each model after refinement. As such, the cockpit placement will vary slightly from model-to-model.

For example, looking at my AA DC-10-30, the window printing is PERFECT. The window-cockpit alignment is exactly as the Northwest DC-10 that Tonka showed us. Also, consider that the photos of the models are taken from a different angle and have a more 'fish-eyed' effect from the lens. As such, it will distort the image to the viewer.

Hello die-hard fan of IF, I know you are good friend of ModelMaker and filar39, it seems that you will defend anything for them even you know the errors made by this factory? Are you try to convince me the pax windows on them are in correct level? Nobody mention their flaws because we have old standard in the past but not now! Can you see a correct engines/pylons/flap track fairings on this DC-10? Why IF give me the chance if they can do all better?
I will point out any flaw no matter who is the manufacturer, I mentioned GJ MD-11 with wrong wing root/lower winglet and incorrect number 2 engines and what happened then? They got them fixed! SMA can still do their #2 pylon better and I am sure they are looking on this. On the other hand, do you think IF will do the same on their moulds(numerous of)? I think every human on the earth should know the answer...
Oooops...I expect to see a thread to compare both MD-11s if one of them is far more better.

Herr Tonka, you write too much, just show us your wonderful collection man!
Instead of pointing out so "many flaws" in every model others make!

Big News; theres mistakes in every model so far, plastic or metal, even those in wood.
Even Pacmin cant make a proper Airbus model, and Graphideco is not good with their Boeings either!
There will always be problems!
For a " collector" you take things too personal, man, by the way, what do you collect then again?!

( the sound of crickets in the background....)

Oh, and did you know theres a section dedicated to you in here, its called " A word from Jc Wings" .

hey, but I will make you happy I am going to buy that B747-8 Freighter from you guys, just be sure to correct that hump shape and this time provides us a good set of professional landing gears! Copy the ones from IF, you should have some left since you told us JC made If models for the past years ... Oh, and use Hogan tires, they are the best!
Mathias
