Exclamation ANA B787-9 "R2-D2 jet"

All Nippon Airways has announced a very unique livery on its newest Dreamliner B787-9 that will be operative on the next autumn.

I don't know if you are a fan of Star Wars or not but as soon as I saw this aircraft I fell in love with the livery. No doubt this bird will be released in the next months by Gemini, JC, Phoenix or by all of them.

All I can say is: I WANT IT!!!

Wow! This ANA B787-9 livery looks very awesome and unique! Though I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, I will like to see JC Wings releases this beauty in the future! Thanks for sharing!

I think the first one will be done PHX, JCW will not start unless they have enough references.

I think it looks crap. I can't recognize R2-D2 anywhere on this livery. It's also visually not appealling. What has ANA to do with Star Wars?

Are you serious? I hope someone can help you out with some assistance that you may need on this issue. This is in the business of some serious excellent marketing with many agreements between ANA and all parties of Lucas films, Disney and royalties to whoever I missed out on. This release is going to be popular I expect

Basically it's R2 like this:

I'm guessing that scene was famously very kawaii in Japan.

My wife was the first person to show this to me.... I was amazed. This would definitely be a must have for me! I cannot imagine JC wings passing this one up...

there is a video of it on the net, capturing this bird at every angle just gracefully flying. The wingtip contrails looked really neat.

The thread on airliners.net suggests the plane has yet to be built meaning it's a (v. good) CGI/flight sim video!

According to the DIMA database, JC, Hogan, Phoenix, Herpa, Rose Soon, Gemini, and Megamodels all have 1/200 789's available and JC and Phoenix have other ANA liveries available. Who will be first to the market announcement wise and who is the most desirable producer?

You must admit its a pretty convincing rendering of a fantasy aircraft....I had to look twice to spot the difference.....

I'd like to know what ANA and Star Wars have in common also - considering that JAL were always the 'Disney' planes !?

It will happen and in a big way. ANA and Pacmin have already unveiled the 1:36 scale model and 1:100's and 1:200's are soon to follow. JCW and PHX are also probably hard at work on the artwork as I type this.

Disney now owns the Star Wars brand. You will probably soon see Star Wars attractions in the various Disneyland's around the world.

At ANA ?STAR WARS ????????? there is onfo about this livery and the aircraft, this B787-9 will be flying in the next fall season. The images looks so real, I can't hardly believe they are renders, a high quality rendering program they must use.

Better News for Mr. Eberhard and hopefully the rest of us...

All Nippon Airways announced today it will introduce Star Wars livery with the iconic R2-D2 on its newest aircraft 787-9 Dreamliner to mark the beginning of a five-year ANA Star Wars project and agreement with The Walk Disney Company (Japan) Ltd. This marks the first time a Star Wars character will appear on the exterior of a commercial aircraft. The R2-D2 design was collider unveiled to Star Wars fans today at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, just months prior to the character’s appearance on international flights in autumn of this year.

Well, it does look too cartoonish, and not very R2-D2-like. Could have been done better, but still not bad for a special livery; doesn't look like anything else out there.

Quite a very unusual colour scheme! Wow!
I like it too! Its a great publicity move, too. Ok, i will swap the regular 787-9 ANA choice for this one instead!!!.
Now if they decide to make a Darth Vader 787 as well?!
Rui, where did you find the video with the music effects?

Hope marcuswong has read this thread and has passed the voice to his boss because this aircraft would be a home run for JC's pocket. Star Wars is a merchandise money maker brand and I think this would be a hot seller.

I would like to read a comment from Johan Chan himself about this ANA special release.
