Default My Douglas DC-7c stash. Will HM make more ?

Clearly not as good looking as the super connie/starliner of course () but a classic airliner that helped promote modern air travel.

Would like to see other DC-7c's pics posted here, especially if you have a custom model. Or others not included in the pics.

And will we see a few more from HM I wonder ?

Just a question: who made the Alitalia and the white SAS model?

Have to say I'm the opposite, Graham .

Have always preferred the DC-7 and the Douglas product. And no, I don't want to start the equivalent of an Airbus/Boeing- whose best debate .

I "spy" the special silver SAS Western you have mentioned before. Any chance of a better view (pic) of it?

Being a WM collector, have got a few of their DC-7s. Here's a pic of my WM KLM to compare with your HM one. Did just see a WM Martin Air Charter DC-7C sold by Mike Stephens on evilbay? Doubt that the "new" WM will re-visit the DC-7 after HM doing their version. Plus HM seem to have cut their civil releases right back. Their latest releases, 2 Pan Ams in a row.

The missing HM...

Just wish that we could get some brass etched / metal props for the HM's as their spinners and 4x2 propellers just don't cut it...

Sevens or Connies... love them both... New stuff... all looks the bleedin' same...

I guess old gits like old planes

Those "Madonna" spinners on the HM have tended to put me off. Although they do seem to have been reduced in size with the last 2 releases. Plus out of the 9 HMs so far released, several have been duplicates of the earlier WMs.

Here are the other 2 WMs DC-7Cs I have acquired...

They are old Tekno releases from Denmark. The ALITALIA is pretty scarce. Date from 1960 ish and more or less a toy, but apart from flight deck windows its not bad for the time. They did quite a few including SABENA, SWISSAIR and Sudflug.

I'll do a shoot of it in a day or so.

Overall I'd say the HM shape was more pleasing to my eye than Westerns version.

I saw it as well, but the silver/white show through variation is a bit naff. The TAI was around earlier as well ????

HM could do KLM with diagonal stripes and a white tail ALITALIA. Reckon they'd both sell.

Agree with all that Agent. Your shot looks like the model needs built in engine roar!!!

Have you found that the white tail BOAC and the Swissair are harder to find than the others ?

Graham- I agree that DCs are not as aesthetically appealing as Connies. Like a chevrolet pickup compared to a jaguar- useful, but different.

I would certainly like to see some Douglas house prototype schemes on the HMs.

Thanks for the answer!

I'd like to see HM make a TAI...

Braniff and Pan Am WM DC-7s seem the most common. The SAS, KLM, Northwest and BOAC blue tail do show up occasionally but it does seem rare to spot a BOAC white tail, Swissair or JAL for sale. And as for the Caledonian, stevec beat me to the only one that I've seen.

There was a Pan Am in the earlier scheme done as a limited edition by Adamjets in the US. In addition to that Martin Air Charter DC-7 seen on ebay, there were 2 DC-6s in Ethiopian and Icelandair colours that I completely missed.

Some sort of flight testing arrangement I guess (see pic of real thing). Mike Stephens did this one for me 20 odd years ago, I asked if he'd do me one without the white roof, and he even changed the reg and name for me as it already existed on the decal sheet....Lucky boy !

"will we see a few more from HM I wonder ?"

Or, in the alternative, will HM modify the casting to produce several versions of the DC-7B. That is a more attractive airplane for people who like US carriers. The Continental version would be great and I would probably also get National. There could also be Panagra, Delta, Eastern and American. This would involve new wings and fuselage so probably cost prohibitive.

You certainly are a lucky boy. This having an all silver finish won't suffer as much from yellowing decals like the white top one.

Meant that those aerials were unusual for the model. Don't think they appeared on any other DC-7 done by Mike.

I think you are right. Even LN-MOB never had them later. I never asked Mike to put them on but he reproduced the model well. When I opened it I was really surprised, like I said, I was expecting a regular model without white roof.

Nice topic! Love the dc7c. Have six hm ones in my collection. I wonder why hm doesn't bring us more dc7c's. And what to think about their lovely dc4? Constellation? Dc6?

I find the HM a more pleasing shape than the old Westerns I have to say. I have a mixture at the moment and replace old westerns with HM whenever possible. I love HM's 4 and 6 as well. Westerns 6 is not bad, I've kept 4 of those AA, Panagra, Swissair & Eagle. As for the connies HM's 1049 is not bad but has issues here and there namely engine nacelles, windshield curved profile and nose wheel strut. I don't find it horrendous though, if there were no others on the market I'd be forever grateful. New Western nailed all 3 connies though don't you think ?

Back to DC-7c's, I'd love HM to do ALITALIA, Panair do Brazil, TAI and diagonal striped KLM. After that a JAL so that I could upgrade my old Western version.

Yes, I can see the attraction of the 7B for you guys over the pond there. But as you say, new tooling may be required. I buffed up again on dimensions. the 6,6a,6B,6C,7,7B all had 117'6" wing though some 7B's had saddle tanks which could be add ons for HM (?)

Whilst the early 6 is shorter at 100'7", the 6A, 6B are 105'7" with the 7 and 7B coming in at 108' 11". Only 3' 4" difference (or a metre). In 200 scale that's only 5mm. They probably wouldn't retool for that little amount.

Would a 5mm too short DC-7/7B be that bad ?

Ow yes, would be in for a striped KLM and Alitalia! I have e-mailed William from HM about a year ago to ask why there are so little (European) releases, his answer then was that there were very low sales on the European market. Will e-mail him again to ask about his long term vieuw now...
