I honestly don't think either brand put as much effort as they should of, too much of a rush to fill panic orders, if anything the JFox representation is the worst example, wrong engines, missing colours/pattens on the livery, poor QC to avoid factory staff playing soccer with the model, wing root still looks like one that belongs on a diecast model from 5 years ago rather then 2015.

JCW's QC sucks that's all

And both can't apply these types of liveries without overlay marks, I mean you don't see the same overlays on plastic models, which is why I wish Hogan etc would do these at a premium level with antennas and detailed engines, I'd never bother buying diecast again

I would throw money at a very detailed, very high quality plastic model, as I'm over all the sub-par diecast that's available at premium prices
It is almost impossible for tempo-printed liveries on 1:200 diecast to have no overlay marks, especially for this Tropical livery (the most complicated livery ever produced in 1:200 diecast)

Bluebox with JCW on the back... and a nice sunny day that went horribly overcast.... suppose it adds to the realism...

I ordered JC SPL & still waiting for her arrival. Why I took SPL? I flew with her 3 times.

Hard to say. I think on 400SH there were more people saying they pre-ordered JFOX. And when I went looking for the JFOX SPK in Europe, sold out. While JC is the favorite here and apparently on DiMA, hard to say what the full picture is.

yups... just a proviso that this record is by no means conclusive. the jfox seems to be a hotseller in my home state also and no, my local retailer does not have a stake in jfox

It is all getting a little confusing, obviously some sort of supplier/manufacturer price war kicking off??!!
Looks like a new JCW/BBOX 747 will cost over a ton now where ever you get it...living not far from LHR, it's still cheaper for me to go thru ARD for future orders with the 10% discount and pick them up myself when passing thru.

Edit:
Robert: After logging into the ARD site, it seems the 15% membership discount actually applies, so not too shabby then, if they arrive!
just noticed that before seeing this post. around £97.70 net after discount. as opposed to 84.96 for IF version. but they should still be cheaper though. most 'other' places are. Airspotters have sold out, so will order one from ARD and see what happens. probably pick it up at the Gatwick show next month. that should be a heck of a show with all awesome models due!!!

Hey guys, I finally received my BBOX SIA Tropical today! I really hope JC Wings can pay more attention on painting issues and revise their magnetic landing gear. Sorry for the graphics taken from my cellphone Big thanks to Marcus, JC wings and all the D.A.C members' big contribution! Enjoy!!
P.S:Since there are tons of threads about this model,I decided not to create a new one again, sorry for the inconvenience!)

A small gift from my retailer

Thanks for the pics. I'm still waiting for mine, but she looks really nice. Glad I chose this model.

I really like the size comparisons. I thought the A350 was a smaller aircraft for some reason.

Thanks! The A350 was indeed a smaller aircraft comparing to Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 747-400, however, its wingspan was bigger than Boeing 747-400! If I'm not mistaken, A350-900's wingspan= Boeing 777-300ER's! Here are some pictures

Thanks again!!
The wing span comparison is pretty amazing. The A350 is a smaller aircraft, but the wings do appear to be about the same length as the 747.

It looks like the current design trend is towards longer, thinner, low drag composite wings on both Boeing (777&787) and Airbus (A350) products.

In some photos here we can see that the nose on this 747 model is slightly too long....sorry, its there for everybody to see! But I agree that the painted colors are good, model still looks good.

Must agree. I went with the overall shape first as "go/no-go" criteria to getting this bird. Surely, JC has the livery down and great detail, but in my opinion it was similar to painting, in perfect colors, a Ford Model T. So yes, I am one of three who bought the JFox version.

JC, you have the painting and the attention to detail down cold. Any chance the nose of the 744 could be tweaked a bit? You will put others out of business if you fixed that.

People really do see things differently.

I think the JCW nose is about as perfect as it gets in a model. I think people are just used to all of those years of looking at InFlight 747 noses. For me the model has both; a more accurate nose and a more accurate paint job, plus correct engines.

Besides, all of the pictures above are not direct side view of the nose; more like quartering side views so the nose is naturally going to look shorter in the picture. If you have a rough time judging how much of an angle at which the pictures were taken, look at the nose gear doors. The pictures are 15-45 degree quartering shots.

the upperdeck part "starting from the cockpit" needs to be revised as it is way off, I do not see a b747... funny how this part was such a let down by the manufacturer !
the mould must be revised but this has a cost... let's see if JC listens here (I do hope they will correct this, with this issue I will stick with IF200's mould for models not equiped with PW engines )

thks for the pics they confirm the big issue

Good news to anti-JCW parties, they failed to modify the 747-400 nose and the mould cracked, will go direct to the trash bin.
Can they build a new one

Ok, if anyone doesn't see a b747 here, maybe they need new glasses?

Seriously, maybe some can be more specific about EXACTLY what they are seeing that is so terrible. Are you guys are talking about the 'brow' (curved part) right above the cockpit windows where the fuselage curves back to the upper cabin roof? (I wouldn't exactly call that 'the nose section') The angle of that section does look a little bit off (just a little, it could be slightly steeper), but still better than other 747 molds out there.

The rest of the nose looks spot on to me. The rest of the real nose is such an improvement of previous 747 molds that I can live with that one little area being a tiny bit off.

And thanks TargusGeorge, the pictures are perfect. Now people need to start comparing the JCW mold with actual pictures TAKEN AT THE SAME ANGLE to get a real comparison.

This is what I couldn't put my fingers on....the brow is what didn't look right. Makes the entire flight deck look too "slick".

The nose does look a bit better, not much though.

Anyone else noticed JCs SQ have the windows curve downward toward the center of the nose?

Ok, I noticed that too. Now THAT makes some sense.

Nope, didn't notice. I think it is just the curve of the mold combined with the angle of the picture. I don't see the downward curve in any of TargusGeorge's pictures.

That's why JC blew this mould already! Any other manufacturer will do the same even they knew the significant erros exist?

Even the front gears doors are too big and the curve windows yikesssssssss lol

Please call me directly when replying to my points and don't say they, I do not belong to the IF team and not the JC team obviously

Getting back to the original intention of this thread...

I just purchased the JC version, reg. 9V-SPK. So you may count that in your totals. Thanks.

To be honest, I don't see any glaring differences between the noses or "brows" between the IF and JCW moods.

With regard to the JCW, I do see the following:

1. Oversized front landing gear (tires and wheels are too big), cheap looking too.

2. Oversized front gear doors

3. Most obvious of all IMO is the fact the JCW plane livery is wrong: it is missing one of the "stripes" on the nose. Count the "stripes" from the windshield down to below the edge of the nose. The real plane has 7 stripes in the following order: dark blue, royal blue, pale tan, sand, yellow, orange, pale tan. The model is missing one (pale tan). It only has 6. The missing colour runs right behind the "Now more than" wording.

To me, the JCW resembles one of those airport kiosk models you buy to keep the kids happy.

If you look closely you will notice that the pale tan stripe is there.

Yes, the landing gear do have some problems, I agree. Sorry, I'm gonna off topic... I used to think that Inflight200 has the best 747-400 mould before JC wings' came out. Not because it's the only choice in 1/200 scale at that time, but they are licensed by Boeing Company. When JC wings released "Tropical" livery last year, I was pretty surprised, both Inflight200 and JC wings joined this "competition", which was kind of unusual. So, I asked my retailer, which one will you choose, he answered: Of course the Inflight200 version! They are licensed by Boeing, how is it possible for JC wings to beat this famous Boeing 747-400 manufacturer?" I thought: Well, maybe he was right(but I still decided to pre-order JCW(BBOX) version ). However, when JC wings finally post the pictures of their first 1/200 Boeing 747-400, I knew I made a right decision, it has new features such as P&W engines, magnetic gears, with a better display stand...etc. And Inflight200? Check out their products few years ago, I can barely find out some differences between them, still using the same wing root, nose, fake P&W engines, I believe some people did send requests to Inflight200, but did IF200 pay attention?I don't know. On the other hand, JC wings did use some of people's suggestions, such as Airbus A350-900's RR engines, you can barely see their mistakes happening again and again, you might find out a flaw on this one, but it probably has been corrected on the next. I can see they keep "transforming" their products, and I truly hope they keep it up! Alright, back to topic, no model is perfect, if you want a perfect one, please go and buy a real aircraft!!

Funny, after I posted that I went back and studied the model even more closely. You might be right, the missing stripe seems to be there in some photos, but not in others. Perhaps the issue is the colour is off, its too light, so it kind of blends into the larger colour below it. On other photos, I don't see it at all, while on the real plane, the colour is glaringly obvious.

I could overlook that, but the landing gear is silly. It looks like the oversized gear on the Gemini 747SP, which is the biggest flaw in that model IMO.

this is good news, Tonka ! But be careful when blowing things, its dangerous!
So there is hope for an accurate B747-400 by JCW!

Serious now, I dont have a painting program, what I mean is that long straight area, from the cockpit windows to the tip of the nose, its like a Sky Ramp all the way down. this makes the nose longer than reality.
can you please make a red line to show what I mean?
Thanks.
Mathias

You are right sir, the stripe does exist. However, it's somehow very difficult to shown by my camera. And yes, comparing to the real aircraft, the strip should be obvious.

You are right on the forward landing gear door but I have to see the model in person in order to form my opinion on the landing gear itself. The color is correct though. It should be grey and not chrome.

And a better model!!!!!!!

Seriously, the angle of the cockpit windows on the JCW mold is going to end the world, but the wrong engines on the IF model are just fine??????????
You are kidding, right??????

In my opinion, the main issues of this model has are: 1. Painting issues(the quality of the painting) 2.The quality and accuracy of landing gear, that's why I hope JC wings can revise them as I mentioned above. And TONKA mentioned the problem before on this thread: http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...ing-glass.html The other parts are way better than Inflight200(Jfox) version.

TG
Can you measure the tires on JCW? It's time for an judgement and adjustment, let's go for engineering.
Thanks
