Thumbs up BBOX B747-412 Singapore Airlines 9V-SPL "Tropical"

Hi guys:

I know there have been many post about this model but I want to show my pictures and my recent arrival. As a B747 lover, this is a "must have" collectible and I am so glad that I made my pre-order for this model.

I am very satisfied with this new mold by JC Wings, hope Johan Chan has in mind some very special liveries like Qantas's "Wunala" & "Nalanji", also Maylasia "Hibiscus" is a very desired livery. Way to go JC! You really made a nice looking 747 mold.

Thank you Eddie for another smooth transaction.

Enjoy the pictures!

Wish I could have a macro lens to show the details at the landing gear, I will try to do some with my compact camera. Nice attempt to replicate the brake discs but there's nothing like the little and superb details in Herpa Premiums models.

Actually it is very easy to distinguish the JC and the JFOX one just by looking at photos. For example :

1. JC has the light green patterns on the fuselage while JFOX has missed all these patterns.

2. JC has correct PW engines while JFOX has GE engines.

3. JC has grey(correct color) wheel hubs while JFOX has silver wheel hubs.

4. JC's cockpit windows have the correct shape while JFOX cockpit windows are U-shaped when viewing from the front.

a6-ego... while you were comparing the cockpit, i was looking at the paintjob and it looks like they BOTH botched it big time especially when viewed from the front. i couldn't find one of tropical's pic from the front perspective but it does seem that the patterns flow smoothly across the nose bridge, no?

SPK, both manufacturers made less amount on this version, so will sold out first.

It's a BlueBox release which is how JC Wings releases some of their unauthorized models. The BlueBox brand is really JC Wings.

For example, 1/200 Blue Box CX 747-400 'SPIRIT OF HONG KONG' B-HOX is a IF releaase.

True, but I didn't see an announcement for the SPK release by JFOX. Thought it was because they didn't want to release a crashed vehicle. Maybe I'm wrong.

That's what I thought too, but when I mentioned BBOX being a branch of IF in a thread by Marcus (I think the first thread announcing the Tropical releases), he said IF has no association with BlueBox at all.

I think his meaning is for this particular Tropical only. "Blue Box" is first used by JC then IF on some sensitive releases.

just spoke to trevor at ARD. JFOX HAS released SPK!! but because of the controversy around it being a crashed plane, it is not widely advertised. however ARD ONLY HAVE 3 LEFT!!! so if you want to order EMAIL or PHONE ARD urgent!! obce they are gone, they are gone!! I think they are the only retailer NOT to list the tropicals!!

however in what maybe a SHOCK!! ARD may NOT repeat NOT getting BOTH JC TROPICALS!!!!! they are still NOT on their site yet, and trevor has NO IDEA IF they will get them atm. so something must be going on!! also BEGS the question, will they be getting the JC HIBISCUS models too????????????

Maybe they are not getting them because of their close relationship with Inflight? And only getting the JFox models?

The US retailers still have them for pre-order. Check Waffle Collectibles, Jetway Models, EZ Toys or Diecast Airplane. They have not arrived in the US yet, about 2 weeks out.

May not get the JFOX SPK. ARD only ships to China via FedEx which means I pay an extra $150 extortion...umm...FedEx processing fee through customs on top of the shipping charges.

Checking with one retailer...they can't get it then fuggetabouit.

Think you should order the JCs from Michael or Nick if ARD does not know if they're going to get it.

point is from ARD they are about £80 gbp. to buy overseas you are looking at almost THAT price cost. plus shipping is around $60!! (£40 gbp) plus customs will sting you another $20-30! (£15-20!!) from aviationmegastore they are 172 euros. about £130 gbp $200!! airspotters are about £110 gbp, but are sold out. I have never known ARD NOT to carry a JC model before. but with inflight and jc releasing the SAME models I need to know NOW if they will stock ANY jc duplicate models. so in future I can order from airspotters. cost around £20 more, but £20-30 cheaper than from Europe or overseas.

I copy the answer here

You may NEVER get the JCW version from ARD, I can expect will be the same for "Hibiscus", this is just a business measure.

ARD is 50% owner of IF/JFox, I think some members know who own the other 50% for sure.

If I am the boss of JCW, I will look for another distributor for UK market.
I respected ARD as a sponser of this forum and really don't want to tell the truth here. May be peer pressure can make the change?

You guys should understand why I challenged Rui's monthly "ARD Visit". JCW have the minimum number of photos among all manufacturers. They are major competitor with each other. I don't think ARD will agree to increase the exposure of JCW products.

I wouldn't have said that....

There's 2.2K of JC 1/200 photos sitting in the archives and most of them have been up on the DAC... (and a further 1.3K 1/400ths).. (they are all still on this forum if you want to go back through the threads.....)

Thing is for the first two or three years many just ridiculed them.. and certain folk were very vocal, but they have gotten better, much, much better, to the point where most now have praise for their efforts... (and models )

...just wish they were more retro....

Ok smartie, where does Marcus fit in? Does he also own 50%?
No wait, that's 150%

Maybe a few people on this forum own 50%. Maybe most people do judging by the Tropical poll?

What percentage are we trying for if A6-EGO is only 25%???

Hello Guys,

Well Tonka and A6-EGO are wrong again!! As usual they have got their facts wrong because I have just seen the JC Wings models listed on the ARD website!! If Tonka and A6-EGO are happy collecting the JC Toys then so be it!!

so easy to tease some specific JC hardcore fans.......
thks for getting out of the rabbit hole so quicky (the suspects did show up pretty fast!)

to make it clear I do not get any kind of pofit from a manufacturer like some guys here

you guys deserve all the critics because you keep bitching manufacturers to support JC

Please read the thread carefully, I am the only one mentioned that ARD will not carry those "Tropical" from JC, have you see those new models 48 hrs ago? They listed them after the cover blowed and still no JC Tropical

Exactly what I did to ARD, everybody can see they listed JCW after the fact revealed! To make it more realistic, may be I can see BBox Tropical on their site tomorrow

This morning I noticed in the store that the nose section pax windows slope downwards on the JCwings Tropical.
Did I had a bad sample?

Yup, just them AND 90% OF THE PEOPLE on this forum. The comparison threads were really good....and JC Wings is the clear winner...by 90%...oh, I'm sorry, that was closer to 95% of the people who responded to the 'Which one did I buy" thread.

Obviously, 95% of the people prefer the JC Wings SCALE MODELS of the Tropical over that of the competition. But you are right, after all, they are all just 'toys for big boys' in the end!!!

I think it is just the upward angle of the picture. If you look at the other pics, particularly the front pic and the level side view, the windows sure look level to me.

I'll hold my opinion on the gears until I have one in hand, but they look better overall than their competition.

Funny, but I actually think Hogan has some pretty nicely detail landing gears. I've replaced IF 787 mains with Hogan bogies when they broke just from the weight of the model sitting on them. Now THOSE were some crummy gears!!!

sorry but the gears and the doors's gears are really bad, my last purchase "CX 777-300er" from JC comfirms that there is a serious problem on the quality of the gears....

I hope that JC will revise those parts for collectors

regarding the level of the windows on the nose : I think that it could be a mould issue...
the next release will tell really soon

by the way, this constant IF versus JC is just pathetic...

The JCW mould also not 100% make me happy, it is better than IF but still have room for improvments. The ideal outcome is BOTH manufacturers modify their 747.

Sorry, I just don't see any 'bad' gear or doors on this model. What I do see is a slot for the axle to fit through on front and rear of the main gear. Maybe that is what you are noticing. The over all gear looks better to me than the competition, correct color and more details. I wouldn't call the IF gear exactly detailed, and their gear doors are plastic on the newer molds too.

I have several of the new mold JCW 777-300ERs and the landing gears are all VERY GOOD. Maybe you just got a bad set of gears on your model? Anyway, I would be interested in seeing pics of your 'bad' 777 gears.

And I think the windows are fine too. I don't think it is the mold OR the printing. If you look at ALL the pics, they look level in some, so I think it is just the angle.

I think is is just GREAT. Comparison threads are one of the major reasons that I like this forum so much. With all of the nit picking, it allows me to decide which flaws I can live with (they ALL have flaws) and to make informed decisions on which models I buy. Particularly on a 'must have' model.

On the Tropical models, it has allowed members to compare the two molds, and make more informed decisions on their purchases. I think it is at least partially responsible for the vast majority of forum members going for the JC Wings model.

And THAT is a good thing.

The comparison thread is nice, but the general trashing other manufacturers even when the topic isn't about other manufacturers is getting old and pathetic. Like JC is THAT desperate to show how much better their models are. JFOX is doing enough to discredit themselves...like the pricing strategy across different regions. Seriously, why charge more to the Asian market than Europe or the US?
