Default Air France A 300 B4 with barcode livery

The donor is the Hogan AF A 300 B2, the fuselage paint was stripped off with non acetone nail polish remover and received a new paint, the registration under the wing was changed too, caution, the nail polisher remover is excellent to remove the registration marks but the paint of the model doesn't really like it …

The decals are from F-DCAL and are rescaled to the 1/200 scale, they are very good, easy to handle but maybe a bit too thick.

The initial model being basic, I just wanted to make a model looking like an Hogan product to go with the other AF A 300 B2.

Not a work of art but it is "good enough" to sit in my glass cabinet.

A very simple way to add to a collection something which is missing, it's worth trying.

A few words about the A 300 …
It was the first wide body twin engine aircraft.
AF was the launch customer, seven A 300 B2 and seventeen A 300 B4 were received.
The first aircraft delivered in May 1974 had a livery which was not successful (picture 1).
In 1976, all the planes except the Caravelles received the barcode livery which in those days was called the "Concorde livery".
Slightly modified in 1979, the more visible change was the engine cowlings which became white.
All the A 300s left AF by 1997.

Jean Pierre.

I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE, I WANTED TO PUT IT IN THE CUSTOM MADE MODELS SECTION.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE CHANGE, I AM SORRY.

I don't see a problem. The model is still 1/200. Personally, I would post it in both sections as it is appropriate in either one. I'm glad you posted it in this section. I don't check the custom model section very often, and I'm glad I didn't miss this post.

Excellent work on the model and excellent pictures, as usual.

Love it - otherwise I probably would not get to see it. Tell me, is the decal really noticeable? Do you clear-coat it and if so does that hide the decal edges better? I would love to try my own but my modelling skills suck. So I just hope and wait for the models that I'd like to see.

Your work is always excellent. It seems when one is passionate about the subject they are working on, the results clearly demonstrate it. Very nice job.

Great work !
The decals look great, they do not look thick considering the result after the clear coat.

I might get the 777 2009 bar code scheme from f-dcal for the last hasegawa kit
Again, the result is impressive
=> Thanks for sharing Jean-Pierre

Very nice work, but you know there is a metal A300 too right? This homework model change looks very nice, thank you.

Beautiful job, Jean Pierre! I bet when Hogan sees this they'll re-issue the model in bar code.
I'll buy one.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Of course, decals cannot compete with tampo-printing.

As I said, compared to what I know from other decals makers, the decals are a bit too thick but they are very easy to apply and when finished, a clear coat on the fuselage attenuates the fact that you used decals.
I said "a bit too thick", it would have been more appropriate to say "a bit thicker" that some others.
The decals are there, you can't ignore them, but to have a model that will never be made, it is quite acceptable and I am ready to use again decals coming from this manufacturer which offer many interesting opportunities.
Of course, it depends on the way you look at your model and where the light comes from.
I attach a close up picture of the Airbus, a photo like this can't lie and you can form your own opinion.

Some other decals are very thin, to the point that you have to use extra care when handling them, when you slide the decals off the backing paper, they tend to roll under themselves, I discovered that spraying a clear coat on the decal sheet is the solution to make them "stiffer" and easier to apply.
Using decals solution (micro scale) and a clear coat, these decals are almost unnoticeable when the job is finished.
Check the picture showing the Latécoère 631 (the flying boat), you see nothing of the decals made by F-RSIN.

For those interested in AF models, F-DCAL and the blank B 767-200 or -300 recently released by JC Wings offer a unique opportunity to reproduce the planes briefly used by AF when UTA was taken over, the winglets of the -300 will need to be filed.

Jean Pierre.

Vielen Dank !

The big flying boat is a Latécoère 631, a resin model that I made a year ago, scale 1/200, the decals I used for the livery were very thin.

I published some photos on the forum.
This model is far less attractive than a Tropical SINGAPORE and I don't want to bore anyone with it.
I attach one of the pictures I published.

Thank you for your kind words.

Jean Pierre.

Your're not boring me at all ...many very interesting propliners were made in France in the past (e.g. Breguet 763 )!

Great custom work!

Would the non acetone nail polish work to remove paint from a Skymarks model? I have been thinking of repainting one of my old Skymarks models, a Qantas Freight 767, which was reissued in the new livery recently. Unfortunately as their detail is very basic, the wings are also rather plain, and the panel lines are horrendous...

Great transformation, Jean Pierre!!

I've always wanted the Hogan A300, but in the barcode livery. Pity it was never released that way, as I really like how Hogan captured the 'spirit' of the aircraft. Mind you, if someone released it in diecast . . .

You did a super job!! Thanks for the tips and great photos . . . I may give this a run myself, provided I can find a spare Hogan AF A300 and some spare time. That project looks like it would be a fair bit of enjoyment to do.

I do have to agree with everybody here - great, great job - except you, Jean Pierre - the Latécoère 631 is far more attractive than "you know what"...

I love the A300 and also the barcode livery. A lovely combination...

It should work.
As far as I know, you don't take any risk, the non acetone nail polish remover doesn't harm the plastic.
For diecast models, things are a bit different, non acetone nail polish remover will remove tampo-printing, registration marks, livery (provided they are not protected by a varnish) but will have no effect on the paint of the model.

I made a few tests on an old Hogan die cast model and that's my conclusion.

Jean Pierre.

Great work there JP! I always love your work & your posts. Agree with you on manufacturers tampo printing, however, that said your model has turned out very nice. My good mate Hu has been after Hogan blank of this airframe for a long time to do a custom. I wanted to post last night but DAC was closed for system maintenance. Love you finished result and thanks for posting

Yes, I think this A300 in the AF barcode livery should also be done in diecast by someone like a Gemini. I know it would not only look super in my collection, but in many others here.
