Default Two Years After: Which Gemini200 Lockheed L-1011-500 Next?

Folks,

I have just seen that the last poll on this topic was held exactly two years ago. And what can I say? Accidently - or not - the two leading votes of DAC members were released in the meantime!

Summary: out of almost 90 votes here on DAC, the UNITED AIRLINES Saul Bass scheme collected 45.45%, whereas the second ranked BWIA delivery scheme got 28.41% - the United was released some 12 months later by Gemini, and the BWIA by JC Wings.

I feel it's the right moment to have an updated poll on this excellent (still underutilized) mould. So: which one would you like to see next from Gemini?

PS.: A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS & ALL THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR!

Have a wonderful one too and the best for 2015.

Yeah never realized the two highest in the poll were released.
Keeping that in mind it's time to vote for TAAG!

The LAM and the Transat are favorites as well.

The not mentioned Sudan will be on to buy list too.

Voted for TAAG, but deep inside Id love to have a TAP ...yes, its been released before, I know, but those high printed cockpit windows ruined the whole look....
So TAAG gets my vote.

First and only time I flew on a Tristar was on Air Transat in 1993. Lovely plane. Would LOVE to see a 1/200 of it

Had to go for the BWIA which has a beautiful livery in my opinion. An Air Transat in either of the liveries would be great too!

So TAAG gets my vote.
I absolutely second that concerning the TAP Air Portugal L-1011-500 released almost seven years back. JC totally screwed it up with those cockpit windows printed rather onto the roof instead of in the typical windshield position. I've always hoped (and still am!) that - one day - Gemini would do a regular release in proper design and quality since the JC Wings model was done as an 'exclusive' on behalf of a Portuguese retailer which is out of business for several years now. Nonetheless, neither Gemini nor any other 1/200 manufacturer listened to my hopes yet.

So, apart from this poll and it's final result: bring us a decent and correctly designed/produced TAP TriStar, please!

EDIT: Riu, did you get my PM?

At least, there are more possibilities on the L-1011-500 mould than on the CV-990A, for example, but they do not utilize the mould more frequently. If I am not mistaken, Gemini released only one(!) new L-1011-500 per year over the past two years (United in 2014, Royal Air Force 'gray' in 2013), and before that gray RAF they did not release any(!) since the Air Canada -500 which used to be the last of a triple in the year 2010 (Royal Air Force 'white' and Pan Am being the other two for that year).

The BWIA by JC Wings was my favorite release for this year. No surprise I voted for the new colors. Madridista, good on ya mate to start another poll. If the first poll had anything to do with the release of the United and BWIA hopefully this one would also bring some more L15s to the collectors.
I'm hoping if JC or GJ produces the BWIA nc it would be 9Y-THA as this was the last BWee L10 to operate.

Sure, there's plenty of options to be done, either a BWIA in 'real' delivery scheme featuring a polished belly (instead of gray which was applied later) or other operators not included in the poll. KRASAIR already mentioned Sudan Airways, I'd add ALIA in the interim red/white colours as well as the silver-gray 1982 test scheme, the short-lived Tajikistan International, Rich International (their -500 was quite 'white', though). Anyway, I had to set a limit for the poll, and there are ten options to chose from - this time!

My vote is none. I don't think they will be releasing another. If I was a betting man I'd say the United was the finale.

Jet boy,

Once a mould is paid for (should be around 100,000 and 200,000 USD these days), the manufacturer seeks as many (profitable) possibilities to utilize it in order to have a positive reimbursement. As long as collectors are requesting and buying, they'll do it.

First of all, if someone is quoting you a 1:200 diecast mould for 100,000 to 200,000 USD run away and never speak to them again. That is many many times what the fair production costs for them should be. Inflight's rip off 747 mould didn't even cost them that much. You are way off the mark here when it comes to the mould costs.

Second is none of the airlines in the poll above would make sales into the GJ production run ranges. Maybe you will see JC wings release some under their brand but I don't see GJ releasing anything mentioned above. Their minimum runs are just too high for those releases.

Well, you might be right concerning the costs of a die-cast mould. In the late 1980's, such a die-cast mould was around EUR 30,000 (USD 40,000), but that's some 25 years ago, so I simply doubled that amount in order to have the minimum. Don't know whether or not it's close to the truth, but there are some people here on DAC who should know it precisely; maybe someone wants to tell us.

Potential sales numbers is an argument, I am pretty aware of this. We have had top selling -500 releases such as Pan Am, Delta, British and United. But what about ATA and both of the Royal Air Force? I don't even expect Air Canada to get close to the top sellers. Apart from that aspect, I do not share your assumption on, for example, Air Transat or BWIA. Maybe even Rich International would fit into the spectrum. But what do I know...!?!

BTW, if JC did all the models GJ does not do, I would be fine.

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!

After a week of voting, we do have an interesting concentration of votes in favour of Air Transat in the 1980's colours and BWIA in the late 1990's post-reorganization scheme.

Currently, the Air Transat is in pole position with some 35% share, followed by the Caribbean folks of BWIA having acquired almost 29% of the votes. Both, ALIA in delivery colours as well as TAAG Angola are third with some 12%.

Keep on voting. Just three days to go!
