Default Delta L 1011

Hello all!

New to this forum/website. And new at collecting this scale aircraft in die cast. Did anyone make an L 1011 with Delta livery? I admit I've been looking but maybe not in all the right places. Starting with that and my yes on a DC 10 (undecided) and a British Airways 747-400. This is fun....off we go!

Thanks!

Chris

Welcome Chris!
Indeed INFLIGHT200 released the model you mentioned, in both regular and Delta
Belle schemes, if Im not mistaken.
At the time another manufacturer, GeminiJets released a Delta Lockheed, the -500 heres a photo from my model, love this colour scheme on the Tristar!!!

Chris,

GeminiJets 200
Inflight 200
JCWings
Phoenix
Eagle
Western Models

These are the best known manufacturers in 1:200.
Good luck finding the Delta Tristar.
Usually I buy two of each when I like the release that much, at the time only purchased one....cant help you here.

Thanks! I have been looking around but can't find that 500 model but a 300 model instead. Not bad....guess I'm picking on the hard to find ones. Especially British Airways in Landor...

There have actually been 4 Delta L1011's produced in 1/200 scale.

Inflight 200
Delta L1011-200 "Delta Belle" Last retired version, has Delta belle lady on the right side nose.

Gemini 200
Delta L1011-500
Delta L1011-385 Bicentennial Version
Delta L1011-385 Regular Version

The longer -300 and -200 version by Inflight and Gemini are on the same mould. The -500 is the shorter L1011 so it's a different mould.

These are all hard to find, all sold out. The Bicentennial is probably the easiest to find. The others are all expensive most of the time when you find one. eBay is the best bet.

Here are pictures.

Yeah seen the regular Gemini scheme a bit pricey! Still looking and will work on getting something. My first purchase is a KLM MD-11 that I got for normal price. Kind of my homage to them just retiring their fleet of those. I'm going for DC-10, MD-11 and L-1011 models to start since they were the first commercial jets to grab my attention when I was young. That and 747 ' s as well. Hoping a Lufthansa 747-8 comes out soon. Thanks all for the info. Superb!

The Delta L1011 is my favourite airliner ever... I have all the releases mentioned above so highly recommend adding one to your new collection....

Also for fun, there is this SM200 Delta Fantasy model in the current livery...

Welcome Chris,

I've some very nice memories of the Delta L1011 @ Schiphol/AMS so one Delta L1011 was a must have for me.

Found the hard to find Delta Belle from Inflight and almost bought the 500 too.
The regular version from Gemini is awesome too.

If I had the space I would have bought them all.

Another "manufacturer" is Aviation200 based on the Inflight moulds.

Good luck finding your models.

Erik

I don't wanna act as Mr. In-the-know... and I'm sure this forum has already seen this discussion. So just on a short note:

There is no designator "L-1011-385" for an L-1011 model. "-385" was Lockheed's designator for the L-1011 in general, i.e. ALL models cary the -385 code in front of their specific model designator. L-1011-385-1 is for all long body versions (known as L-1011-1, -100, -200 as sold by Lockheed factory-new) and L-1011-385-3 is for the short body model (L-1011-500). Note that the latter in brackets were marketing designations.

I'm aware. I was listing the way Gemini listed the models on their website just in case this collector looked them up. Didn't want them to get confused by the two different L1011 models available. One longer than the other.

This is a good history and background of the L1011.

Thanks both ways. I was aware of the FAA designators too. Just exploring the realm of these collectible beauties! Hope I can find my Delta for the right price. I seen one so it's very potential! The L 1011 screams for Delta, Eastern or British airways since they were the three airlines I saw the most. They had a British Airtours model made too that while not popular it is very nice to look at.

Missing from the list is the limited run 1011's done using the InFlight [I seem to recall] mould for 7 airlines including Delta by SM200. I bought a SM200 DC-8 {worldways} via ebay and the quality looks pretty good.

@Willigenburg,

Right before the "to be newly-released" TWA in the "twin globe" delivery scheme, IF is re-doing the Eastern in polished finish. I'm interestingly awaiting the Eastern in order to see whether or not IF has done any further modifications to the mould or just changed the manufacturing process from a two-parts mould to a one-piece tooling (which, as far as I understand, is the necessary basis for polished finish).

I am a bit biased. On the one hand, it is definitely a nice opportunity for IF to have classic L-1011 liveries with a polished belly (most of the time it was just about the belly, with some rate exceptions, such as Eastern or Millon Air). On the other hand, I would say it is an unfriendly dťjŗ-vu for any collector who bought the now "ugly alternatives" throughout the past 10 years, which did support IF in the market but didn't meet collectors' wishes at that time. Now, they can do a polished fuselage on the L-1011 but who wants to buy a double of a model he already purchased? Plus, if you are going to replace the silver-painted example by a new polished version, you probably won't be able to get a reasonable price as most of the collectors will buy the polished version... the value of the earlier silver-painted models will decrease decisively.

All in all, I can say I am happy that IF found a way to have L-1011s in polished finish too. Furthermore, this should be a good opportunity to re-do certain models that failed to meet major quality requirements on the first release (the Air Canada in delivery colours is a good example: poor quality of the red paint, particularly on the tail (full of bubbles and irregularities), a totally misplaced windshield (as worse as on no other L-1011 released so far) etc.). Polished or not: I won't buy all the models again although I would've loved to have Delta, Saudia, TWA, Cathay Pacific, ANA 'Mohican' etc. with a polished belly from the very beginning...!

EDIT: Wow, just realized this is an anniversary...: 1000th posting on DA.C for me... still writing rubbish, though! Have a good one, folks.

Default regarding the inflight l-1011

I hope they change the shape of the mo 1 and 3 engine nacelles intakes similar to gemini 200 l-2011-500, and again use the profile of the gemini 200 l-1011-500 landing gear proportion for the new polished mould...that would make for one beautiful l-1011 classic.
