Thumbs up IF200's KLM PH-BFU "City of Beijing"

Hi guys:

I know there are plenty of threads about this model but there are few pictures shared of this new and so waited release so far ( Rui's gallery is another story). Yesterday I finally received my "Lady Blue", inbound from Hong Kong, fresh out and recently unboxed. So, I decided to make some quick shot using the autumn sunlight. What a beauty!!!

For those who have cancelled the pre-order, hope you don't regret that decision in the future because the model is quite good. Perhaps the first release is better but I am quite happy with this new run. The only "minor flaw" I have noticed is the absence of red markings on the right side flap fairing tips and at the back of engine #4 pylon.

Now, I am waiting for the cargo version, hope the lot of these KLMs reaches soon the US territory.

Greetings!

Inflight200
Boeing
747-400
KLM
PH-BFU
Serial No. 046/504

Many thanks Eddie!!!

Great photos, sure looks nice. I'm (impatiently) waiting for my KLM Cargo, which will join my original IF200 KLM. It will be interesting to see whether the new release truly holds up when compared to the original model.

Hi Wu6fiend!

I have seen pictures of the cargo and I am also impatiently waiting that model too. I forgot to say, InFlight (or JC's factory?) made a smart decision about packaging, the model comes inside a foamy cradle now. Much more better and protective way to ship the models than that old, ugly, and awful styrene.

Patience!!!

I haven't purchased any of IF200's newest releases (or I should say, I haven't received any yet). My "Saul Bass" UA 747 and the KLM Cargo are still on pre-order. So I haven't seen the new packaging yet.

You are 100% correct, the styrofoam was terrible, and IMO chiefly responsible for the frequently broken front gear, and less frequently broken wing tip antennas on the 747 models. I also received one 747 with a snapped off engine.

Never had an issue with Gemini models, which I argue are the gold standard in terms of packaging. I'm glad to hear IF200 made the change away from the rigid styrofoam, to the soft foam.

Also interesting IF200 forgot the red markings on the KLM's right wing, but that oversight is simple to fix with a bit of red paint, if you are so inclined.

What do you mean by "Ruis gallery is another story!?"....

I much prefer KLMs previous scheme, but thats my personal taste, tahts why I love my Herpa so much...one thing Ive just realized; INFLIGHT200 went back to their original wheels, the rims now have detail again, instead of plain disks! This is a good sign, for future 747s to come, wooohhooo! ( like a certain Saul Bass United big bird!)
Great photos mon cher, tx for sharing again.

I'm well chuffed with my 744s, great chance for those who missed the initial KLM release, especially with the ERF Cargo bird.

Hi Rui:

You must know what I am talking about, every time you upload pictures they transmit the time you took to making them and they are not only 1 or 3 pictures. You really want to capture every detail on the models and I really appreciate the attention to details . That's why I meant saying "Rui's gallery is another story".

Perhaps JC should consider the old livery for future release, I have the Herpa's "City of Lima" (bought from Robert) and it is a beauty. I was a little kid when the Herpa Premium came out and getting one in these days is like making a deal with the devil. Hope Johan Chan is ready this thread, there so much old B747-400's to do and re-do.

How about this list Rui?

JAL "tsuru (crane) old livery"
Thai "previous livery" (I don't know the name)
Lufthansa (soccer ball nose)
Lufthansa "Fanhansa"
Singapore "Tropical"
Qantas "Wunala" & "Nalanji"
Malaysia "Hibiscus"
KLM "previous livery"
Air France "previous eurowhite"
Aerolineas Argentinas
Varig "90's livery"

@Ledoctor: I don't want to be rude but mate, all I have read from you are negative comments about this model. If you are not 100% satisfied with this new release, why are you buying it? Just keep in mind this, there will never be a PERFECT MODEL.

I recognize the model has some errors but I try to leave them aside, the cheatline is 1 or 2 mm higher than it should be. The flap fairings tips (the closest to the body) from the right side should be in red and the back of the pylon #4 too. But that's it! There are things you can fix, there some that obviously you won´t.

I am trying to enjoy the model, specially because I didn't pay over $350USD for it. Models come, models go.

Have a nice Monday gentlemen!

Well said.Every model has got it's flaws. But I love this release since I've missed the previous one. Hope JC will do the first livery of KLM, but still hoping for a B742 or 743 in original collors first!

Love your pictures in the autumn sun btw!!

I've looked at the photos of the model, and photos of the real aircraft, and I'm not seeing the glaring discrepancy you are noticing. The cheat line is a straight line, immediately below the windows. That line travels straight, from the nose to the tail. The grey is below that, while the blue is above. So, how is it the two colours are "out of proportion"? The model, aside from the obviously missing red details on the right wing (which is easily fixed), looks just fine to me.

it's all about attention to detail ...some people have the eye for it...I wish I was like you and not see it Would make life a lot easier :P

look close to the wing area?? you really do not see the gap between the blue line on the model and the real thing?

But in general this model might look better than the previous one ..The grey shade is a lot lighter compared to the old one..It was too dark

Ok, now you've been more specific, and given me something to pay close attention to. I was focussing on the tail area. I think I see what you are pointing out (the distance between the top of the wing, and the cheat line, with the grey below that, and the blue above.)

You are right, on the real plane, it appears the cheat line is not as high above the wing. The grey area is lower along the entire fuselage. That would mean the model has its windows printed slightly too high, and the balance between the blue and grey is thrown off, as a result. Interesting.

I just compared the photos with my original IF200 KLM. The blue/grey balance appears spot on to my eyes. I'm looking forward to receiving my KLM Cargo, so I can compare the two models side by side.

I also acquired the new IF 200 KLM B744 -after being undecided whether I would purchase it or not.

I am most impressed with the model and think it is certainly an overall improvement on IF200's original KLM B744 -PF-BFW .of which I also have.

Although not 100% perfect it is more than satisfactory to me.

I highly recomend it.

Enjoy the model!!!!
Have you made an arrangement with them?

What I mean, I would be very happy if any retailer here in Mexico calls me to take pictures to their stock models. Have a nice time practicing my skills and perhaps getting some profit. I can give them the pictures for their catalogue or for preview images at their website. I don't know perhaps a little remuneration for ALL the models taken.

Unfortunately here in Mexico there are not established sellers, perhaps just one but it is only an electronic store. I mean, not a physical store like ARD, Aviation Center Berlin or The Airplane Store. The few retailers in my country are just collectors, informal sellers, vending at Facebook groups or forums.

So, you have a great privilege and I think you are using it well. Keep posting Rui!!!

@Alpha_Bravo @Aussiejets thank you guys! Those were just a quick shots, I was like a kid showing his new toy. I promised to make better ones using my new background, something like this:

A side from the indeed to high window line it's still a nice model.

The first KLM 744 version has it spot on concerning the window line.

The first one which I SHOULD have bought, and now CAN'T afford, was perfect and the second one has a slight window line defect.

Noticeable when it is compared with another KLM 747 only. Wish I could have the first releas to make some face to face shots like these ones.

These new KLM releases both the freighter and the regular are sold out on Inflight's website already. So well done on getting your models. Here is a shot of my KLM Inflight's first release which I sold two years ago, sadly

They may show as "Sold Out" on the IF200 website, but there are many available for sale on eBay, at very reasonable (below $200 USD) prices.

Another difference is the incorrect wing root fairing (not painted in a vertical line at the join) on the second release, strange as it is correct and fairly accurate on the first. I know a couple of airlines such as BA had this fairing to wing join painted curved but most carriers including KLM had the vertical straight line border.

One improvement though I prefer the engines on the second release, defo look more GE.

Thanks for posting those comparison shots though Tomas, really good job there mate, appreciated!

Sorry guys, I have been disconnected in the last week from the forum.

Wow, that's what I was talking about Tomas. I have been told the first release had the cheatline in a lower position but I am watching that is not true, not at all. As Jan has already said, just the rear section has a better proportion of that line but in front they are just the same.

After all, I think the 2nd release has a better detailing at the pylons and better engine shape. Hope JC Wings decides to recreate the previous livery, perhaps in their new mold.

Greetings!!!

also my has a little scratch around the nose area dark blue cheatline. I got it from Aviation center berlin...should I return it? or too much hassle shipping etc?

Would be super easy to just give a link instead of giving instructions...
Besides, couldn't find anything based on that, there are a few forums with military aircraft.

I got the newer models a few weeks back and have also managed to get a hold of a KLM Asia for a pretty decent price on ebay so hopefully she'll be here in the coming days. I'm looking fwd to taking some comparison shots too!

3 replies ago and no link, yes it could have been a lot easier. You didn't even mention a forum in your original post. Or a section.

In the future, please show some consideration for fellow forum members, please post a link to your thread, as is common practice.

Thanks

I was told that the shipment from Hong Kong came into the Port of Los Angeles, which is currently involved in a labor dispute and slow down. This slow down should affect most models coming into the U. S. from Hong Kong.

My understanding is that the shipment has been sitting off shore for about 2 weeks now waiting for a berth to be unloaded.

Which explains why I haven't received mine yet. Oh well, it will be a very late Christmas present (or a very early one for 2015).

Its funny how the cheat line discrepancy is noticeable in Yogurtlite's photos, but hardly so in Cvoxxx's photos. Maybe some models are more "spot on" than others. Either way, I'm looking forward to my KLM Cargo's arrival.

I don't think anyone can be arsed locating your thread now

In the time it's taken for you to make multiple cryptic replies you could have done yourself and the members a favour and just added the link
