Wow, thanks for ending my ignorance about V1 Decals Culture! I'd heard of them but I didn't know they had that big a collection. I may have to get serious about those blanks JC Wings and others have been outing out. Much appreciated tip!

Cheers,

And there are a lot more not yet listed on Ben's (V1) website.

Stay away from JBOT. You'll never get your decals !

I'm willing to bet it has more to do with the fact that Canadian North's headquarters is in Calgary and they wanted Calgary's team the focal point on the plane - dead centre.

I thought Canadian North was based in Yellowknife... or was it Iqaluit?

Canadian North's headquarters are in Calgary but the airline's focus is on the Northwest Territories and Nunavut with southern gateways in Ottawa and Edmonton.

FLAIR AIR

* Operates some passenger flights on behalf of Cubana
* Provides workforce transportation for major construction and natural resource companies.
* Partnered with Shell Energy Canada Ltd.
* Have offered "around the world tours" as well as South American tours in the past.
* Regularly operates charter services across Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Asia, and Europe.
* Charter airline of choice of the Vancouver Canucks.

The fleet currently includes:
Boeing 737-400 (x4)
Embraer 175 (x1)
Dornier 328 (x1)

Thanks for all the informative posts, I hadn't heard of some of these airlines yet! We have North Cariboo Air operating out of Edmonton, flying an assortment of aircraft including various Dash-8 models and BAe-146. They do have a pretty classy livery especially compared to the corporatewhite types that are in vogue nowadays. Photo from http://www.visitingphx.com

Nice! North Cariboo Air was actually going to be my next post. They fly into YVR every day too. Usually with Q400s, but occasionally with the BAe.

I've always had a thing for the BAe 146; not even sure why, but ever since a flight from Alice Springs to Cairns in an Ansett BAe 146 I've really plumped for the type. I'd love to see models of them in any Canadian liveries. (I already have the two JC Wings Jazz versions.)

PACIFIC COASTAL AIRLINES

Established 1987
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia

Pacific Coastal Airlines, or Pasco as it's known by at YVR, is a regional airline offering both land and sea plane services all over British Columbia. They have flown (and continue to fly) some pretty unique aircraft too! Gemini Jets released a 1/400 scale Pacific Coastal Airlines Shorts 360, but it was far too tiny to really appreciate if you ask me (although I do have it in my collection).

* Pacific Coastal owns and operates a fleet of vintage Grumman G-21A Goose amphibious airplanes (four of a known 30 aircraft in the world that are still airworthy).
* The tails of their aircraft are all unique and represent different west coast scenes or activities.
* Pacific Coastal employs over 300 people at their bases with hubs in Vancouver and Port Hardy.
* Pacific Coastal is the largest land-based airline in the Greater Vancouver Regional District - the third largest metropolitan area in Canada.

Pasco's Fleet:
Saab 340A (x6)
Beechcraft 1900C (x7)
Grumman G-21A Goose (x4)
de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver (x4)
Shorts 360-300 (x2 - currently stored)
Beechcraft Super King Air 200 (x1)
de Havilland Canada DHC-3T Turbine Otter (x1)

I know a 1/200 Goose doesn't exist (at least as far as I'm aware), but I thought plane buffs would enjoy seeing a photo of one all the same.

I've been eyeing up V1 Decals' 1/200 version of this livery for a possible Code 3 (as the military dudes say).

I could picture Hobby Master having a go at that one, actually. With a model like the Viscount, every livery is going to be a classic, unique one. Why not take a shot at a cool scheme that nobody else has even considered? Lots of people collect based on aesthetics more than content and this certainly looks the part, and lots of people collect Canadian subjects - especially proven with recent 1/72 releases. Maybe it's time somebody took a shot at 1/200 stuff to see if it crosses over. I bet it would.

Keep in mind, Hobby Master did put out a Northwest Territorial Electra.

Kelowna Flightcraft is another one that would be interesting to see. I like collecting older aircraft in the larger scale as few airlines still use them. The exception being KFA which operates the 727 and the unupgraded DC10

How about Kenn Borek? We (the family) flew from Tuktoyaktuk back to Inuvik with them in what I believe was a B1900, though I sadly wasn't paying much attention to commercial aircraft back then... running for my life now! :-)

Kelowna Flightcraft also flies the old Convair CV-580s. I love seeing the old birds (including their 727s and DC-10s) fly into YVR every day.

Kenn Borek has beautiful planes, but most of them are aircraft that aren't readily available in 1/200. The exception is the DC-3 but theirs are all turboprop conversions.

^^ I would love to see that released.

Also, I just remembered that I have a lot of closeup shots of all the details on Hawkair's C-FYDH Dash 8. I had a 1/72 decal sheet made for that plane a while back and I was doing ground handling for them at the time. Any manufacturer want to tap into that?

5. First Air

Of those airlines, only Air Canada and WestJet have been represented with 1/200 scale jet releases. Canadian North got a Dash 8 release from JC Wings, but it wasn't in full-livery. It was a plane leased to Canadian North from Regional 1.

In addition, there are two major Canadian airlines that offer year-round international service and neither have been represented with a proper 1/200 release:

1. Air Transat
2. Sunwing

There are also dozens of regional carriers in Canada yet to be represented, some of which certainly deserve releases that would sell well. I plan to shed light on some of those airlines in this thread by providing some information about the airline, photos, and reasons why they deserve a release in 1/200.
Inflight has made a 787 for Air Canada in 1:200.
The color is seriously OFF.
Wanted to report it here but see no way to start a thread and when you email to ask for assistance, one does not even receive the courtesy of a response.

I am a senior and I am unimpressed with the lack of courtesy that has been shown to me in the past. There's no need for it.

I believe in recent news, Canada Post has selected to not renew their Purolator contract with KF and has signed with Cargojet (YHM) instead. The current KF contract only has a few more months to run.

The Air Creebec DC-3 is stunning and I'd like to see something interesting like the Air Labrador livery on a Shorts 360. Somebody out there has a decent looking HS 748 model. (Is it InFlight 200?) An Air Creebec could follow the Air North HS 748 that is required!

Absolutely. I'm supporting them all the way. They're trying to fill that gap that WestJet abandoned while hunting down Air Canada and I think it's a much needed service.

That's a pretty attractive livery though I'd like to see them raise the cheat-line a tad into the 21st Century corporate-accountant dictated whites-only area above the wing. Hope they make a go of it. WestJet was really good when they started.

Thanks for posting,

Roy

Noticed you haven't mentioned Cargojet in this list yet. I always love seeing their aircraft when they occasionally come into Toronto.

One somewhat modern but nontheless consigned to the history books is Harmony Airways. I'd love to see a GJ Harmoney Airways 757

Waiting for a West Jet (Disney) 737-800 to be made and would like to see a Sun wing and Canada 3000 757.

Probably because Phoenix made the other Disney ones, and they don`t have a 737-8 mould yet...

My understanding is they have been working on the new mould. Maybe after Chinese New year.

The WestJet 757 would be great! They'll have 767s soon too! And the 737MAX.

There are also two small Canadian Airlines in Saskatchewan that I am unsure if they have been made or not. Transwest Air (My favorite of the two) and West Wind (They operate the Pronto Airways Beech 1900C's)

With WestJet's intentions on conquering the world I wonder how long it'll be before WestJet 787s are flapping around our heads.

I don't know of a 1/200 Beech 1900 yet, unfortunately. I've only focused on airlines where there is already a model available just waiting for their paint to be slapped on the sides.

A 1/200 Beechcraft 1900 would be roughly the size of a 1/400 BAe 146 or so wouldn't it? Preeeeetty tiny but not out of the question. With practically an endless selection of interesting liveries (and not just Canadian either) and probably relatively cheap to produce and sell, it seems like a wise choice for someone. JC Wings maybe?

I just looked at the current total on my Desired Molds survey and the 1900 is showing 7 out of 55 responses. The highest is the Ilyushin 62 at 17 out of 55. Clearly there is some desire. Small World makes a lot of similar ie Jetstream 31 size or smaller, ie Islander models in 1/200.

Hmmmm... how about an AC IL 62...? Just kidding, though I'm a big fan of the Ilyushins and voted for that mold in your survey. Thanks for doing the survey BTW!

Cheers,
Roy
