Default Phoenix November 2014 1:200 releases - Etihad A380 (Terrible mould)

I think we'll all agree to be very disappointed that Eagle got this one, after seeing their Thai A380 I'm steering clear of these models..

Other releases:
- Boeing House colors 787-900
- Cathay Pacific A350-900
- SQ A350-900

Well I think it'd be a good idea to wait and see if (hope) there are improvements.

In fact they are...
According our supplier the gears on the Etihad a380 will be fixed this time, not magnetic until they sorted out the issues with the magnetic gears.

I have some Thai a380 models here and had the time (and patience) to see the differences between the 2 molds (GJ-JC and Eagle).
Not suprisingly there were differences, but i have to say the nose/cockpit area for example looks really good on that mold, comparable to their 1:400 models.

I think it will probably like always that there will be pro's and cons for new molds, but since the GJ-JC mold is already really good, the bar is set high for Eagle to become equal/better than the GJ-JC a380.
But i have to say (and that is my opinion as i have seen the model in person) it's not bad, but it can be better so it should be.

The quality control is an extension of the quality we see in the current 1:400 scale phoenix models, which to say its not good. Coupled with that 'incredible' looking mould, i would stay far far away from 'Eagle' models unless proven otherwise.

The Ebay pictures are not large on my screen.
Maybe the model better to judge with bigger pictures;

Just click on the picture of the model and you will able to check 6 large images of this model in Photobucket

I am able to click on the main image and enlarge each image from there. The model doesn't look bad, but the Gemini / JC Wings mould is better I think.

What's the weight like on the Phoenix Thai A380 compaired to a Gemini / JC Wings A380 mould?

I have always believed that the Phoenix 1:400 A380 was the best out there, they have the correct tail/APU, cockpit and nose profile plus the gull wings. They have basically scaled up there 1:400 mold to 1:200. They just need to fix the undercarriage and engine inlets in my opinion.

Scale down is ok but scale up is always disaster, you enlarge every flaw which may not be found on smaller scale.

It's definitely not about scaling up and down. The overall craftsmanship of the 1:200 Eagle A380 is disastrous, not to mention the toyish landing gears. The front gear cannot be fit properly. All the gears actually cannot properly touch the table. I would say it cannot be called a "model" at all under nowadays' 1:200 standards.

The engine inlet is totally non-sense. It reveals that they haven't done any research in designing and making the engine. Also the overall shape of the engine and pylon is far from the real thing. Only stupid people will buy this toy at that price levels.

The 1:400 Phoenix A380 is rather acceptable, although the left inner flap fairing is wrong while the JC/GJ mould is correct.

To conclude, Phoenix / Eagle has no sense in making 1:200 models.

Here is my detailed comparison of a toy and a model :

I will wait and see if Gemini will release this in 1:200 as well. They could even get a stamp of approval from the airline.

why should I spend over USD$100 to buy a piece of crap while there is already a near perfect A380 by GJ/JC?

As long as the B787-9 reads 'Dreamliner" with a D on both sides,I will be happy. Just love that plane with all the customer markings and the huge 9 on the tail. Please don't mess it up Phoenix. As a side note, the new Etihad livery is growing on me. I saw the B787 a few weeks ago down in Everett, and it actually is quite nice.

I am thinking to pre order phoenix Malaysia airlines a380 for January release..but after reading all these comments it makes feel to cancel my intention..any possibility they will upgrade their mold?
I wouldn't count on it....

JC Wings released the Malaysia A380 too...several years ago. You can try going to the For Sale section and posting a Wanted ad, I've been able to get many models I wanted this way. Also, try ebay. They pop up from time to time.

Its a really nice model!
