They did not make them with the fan blade in engine 2.

In the real MD-11 or DC-10 you had to really stand right in front of the nacelle of it to see it is that far down the tube . from normal view angles the shadows would hide the fanblades from view.

But for the model i think it would really be better if they put it in.

Scramjet

The number two is really a bit more work to replace.
There is a trolley system in the engine pylon wich you can use to lower the engines with cables.
You can also fold out plancetes on the side of the engine to walk on.
But you have to have nuts of steel standing on these little platforms 3 stories from the ground :-)

There is a small entry in the bottom of the tail you enter with a ladder , than climb trough the tail section (like a submariner climbing the conning tower) than open the top hatch and lfold out the little boarding planks on the sides of the engine.

Don't think it has its own trolley system. Mechanics use pneumatic run chain hoists to lower the engine stand down and up to the engine during removal.

No not its own trolley but they use trolleys wit cables.
The have some kind of engine cradle tthats hoisted under the engine than they lower the engine in the cradle , than cradle is lowered.

MD-11 has its own trolley system on #2, normally use during line maintenance/transit, for base maintenance inside hanger, there are platforms tailor made for #2 engine. According to my experience, #2 engine has less defect if compare with #1&3 and most can be deferred during quick turn around.
But top up of the engine oil will need a high lift truck, that's why in most cases, #2 engine oil level is lower than #1&3

I think it is better to put no blade in stead of the cheaper ppc and lupa models were they put the fanblade up front.

Inflight present their DC-10 with fanblades so I think GJ must able to do the same.

Somehow I have the feeling this KL MD-11 has been rushed out of the factory to make it on time to the stores before KLM will make it's last MD-11 flight.

Too bad.

Pure arrogance by GJ to omit the number 2 fan blades knowing that they would
get their a$$ kicked by the critical members of this forum!

Gemini has gotten complacent, lazy and there's no quality control, which is why I no longer buy from them. Obviously, they have little pride in their product. As long as we buy as is and turn a blind eye that will continue.

It is quite hard to determine whether the fan should be included in No.2 engine.

With no fan, it actually looks more real because it's very hard to see the No.2 fan on real aircrafts. If the fan is included, especially when it is silver, it will be too obvious.

However, of course a real MD-11 has a fan in No.2 engine. There will never be nothing in the tube.

Therefore .... I still prefer including a fan in No.2 engine, but with the position of the fan as far down as possible.
