Thanks to two DAC members, I'm very pleased to add a couple of particularly striking models to my 747 collection. On the left is a long sought after model, Aviation 200's Korean Air 747-300 HL7469. On the right is Blue Box's Virgin Atlantic G-VFAB "Birthday Girl". Enjoy the photos.
I read somewhere that KAL cracked down on the licencing of their livery, making future releases of models of their aircraft less likely (maybe that's true, maybe not). I do know that this model took as long or perhaps longer to find than practically any other in my collection, and that includes very sought after ones like the KLM and Pan Am "Billboard". The KAL just doesn't come up for sale very often, in my experience. Perhaps a dedicated KAL collector will chime in with their thoughts. It's well worth seeking out this model, though, because it is beautiful.
Lovely additions... i just recently added the Virgin Birthday Girl to my collection, really like the birthday livery on the 747... shame it was a permanent livery as think its very classy

Yes - it was part of the first set of AV200 747's in 2009. From what I recall it was the Korean, Delta, JAL 50th, Virgin "Barbarella", and then the Aerosur announced a few months later. In my opinion, all great models (but not without some noticeable flaws).
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's rare, but I guess the definition of "rare" is different for everyone.
Nice additions! I am wondering when do IF200 will release the Korean B744, or has it already be done? The database tells me there are only a couple of Risesoon models.

I don't believe a die-cast Korean 747, besides the AV200 discussed here, has ever been released. A very small part of me is glad Inflight hasn't made one. As wu6fiend mentioned, there's all kinds of internet speculation as to why.

It is indeed puzzling, as KAL is a large, well known carrier, with an attractive, distinctive livery.
Meanwhile, other airlines that I argue appeal to a very small number of collectors (the one that immediately springs to mind is IF200's 747 belonging to Global Supply Systems) get released, while others (such as the KAL) get ignored.
And then we have duplicates (or triplicates, or even quadruplicates, is that a word?) of the same aircraft, belonging to the same airline, different only by reg number. Strange.

My guess is that the process to make even a toy airplane is not as easy at it sounds. I certainly hope they are obtaining the proper licences, etc., but my guess is that most of these manufactures, with the few exceptions (i.e. Gemini Jets), are often NOT. We are dealing with China after all, the seemingly Mecca of counterfeit goods.
I know the former airline I used to work for had very strict restrictions on the use of corporate logs and designs right down the exact shade of colors, fonts, sizes relative to other objects, where/how they appear, etc. I'm sure these airlines can issue a cease and desist, but I bet they have more important things to concentrate on.
I would also guess that they have zero incentive on creating certain models when all the planes come from ONE factory (this is why I believe improvements to existing 747 mold and design are so slow)...besides, they can issue "whatever" and it's more than likely that they'll eventually sell out.
