Huge haul as usual and thanks for posting Modestos. A large number of JC blanks there what have you got in mind for them? Only one Ansett JC DC-3 I see. Don't miss the Ansett Inflight 727-100 @ 144 units only. It will be rare like the Ansett 727-200ADV Shooting Stars colour scheme which I see some listings on ebay for AUD 250.00-300.00 and the JETX 1-200 727-200ADV Delta scheme never comes up on ebay anymore. Maybe a DC-9 is due in this scheme

I'm sure I will be accused of just being jealous, but I've gotta ask: what is the point of a collection this large? Your rate of acquiring models is as if the world is coming to an end and models are a ticket to heaven. This seems more like obsessive hoarding than collecting to me. How can your taste and criteria be so vast? You're even acquiring blanks. How can you appreciate each model on its own when it becomes just one of thousands, and gets lost in the mix, stored away never to be seen again. Have you ever considered devoting a portion of your obviously large model budget toward some nice highly detailed, decked-out custom pieces in a larger scale?

Not hating, just honest questions from someone whose motto is quality>quantity.

I thought the exact same as you until I sat down and thought, "Now WHY does this bother me at all what someone else collects?"

The answer I could come up with is that the 'collection' part itself does not bother me, what does bother me is when I pick up a 'vibe' that someone uses his resources to try to 'beat' other collectors or to achieve a feeling of superiority over other collectors.

For instance I notice that each post started by Modestos has got the 'COOL' emoticon as the identifier. Now that could be that it is cool to get the models or it could mean that look how cool I am.

People have different criteria.
I have thought of the following:
1) For some just one airline is what they seek,
2) Some collect just one country,
3) Could be dependent on scale,
4) Could be dependent on an era of aviation,
5) Could be aircraft they have flown on,
6) Some collect for the 'hunt of finding them'. Once they have them, they look for the next 'hit',
7) For some the NUMBERS of the collection is more important than the actual aircraft in the collection,
8) Only metal could be a criteria,
9) or any combination of the above,
10) Hoarding,
11) etc.

Bottom line, I found the main problem does not lie with the person I am criticizing (although there could well be some psychological concern), but rather the if it upsets me, then the problem is with me and I need to examine myself and deal with that. I can't change someone else, but I can work on myself.

This is a well thought-out post, thank you. You makes some good points and I generally agree with what you're saying, especially the part about picking up vibes that someone sees collecting as a contest of numbers. Also a good reminder to do some self-reflection.

To clarify, though, it's not so much that I'm bothered by Modestos' posts or collection habits; I'm just genuinely trying to understand his reasoning and collecting criteria, because there doesn't seem to be any. If he just buys anything and everything he can get his hands on, well... whatever floats his boat.

I too used to collect every die cast 200 model that came out.. Eventually I ran out of room. It happens here all the time where a collector "over collects " and comes to the realization that it's gone too far and now it's time to unload as is the case with a great DAC collector down under. For now , let this avid collector do his thing as he is really passionate about this hobby and has the resources to aquire the models..one day he will realize enough is enough but for now I think it's awesome !!!

The first reason to collect all those model is passion for aviation, second I have plans (decals) for the blank models, third by buying all those models direct from their manufacturers I get them much more cheaper than the original price so I go for more models and no hard filings,

Crazy consumption of models in a month, Im not able to buy 50 1:400 models a month, one for cash and two for space, never mind buying in 1:200 scale, If i was a multi millionaire living in a mansion, i dont think i would buy most of these, But modesto can and as a pilot you can understand his passion, Obviously he enjoys it with his kids and his wife must have a wardrobe or two of bags and shoes.

Modesto is the king

Hello, in fact I have another one A300 that I already convert to B4 model and is all white and because the windows are coming in decals for the SQ A300 (was original Olympic all white A300B4 initial model) I will convert that one to SQ and keep the other for a future conversion along with the Olympic one, no I will not fill the gap between the wings and fuselage, I am also a SQ collector, and yes I will post pic's of my SQ fleet when I finished my project.( I post pic's of my smaller SQ fleet last year also, before the A380 released)

Mike777,one word PASSION and yes I have plans and decals for the blank models, Next question please!

First, sweet congrats Modestos on picking up some splendid new models that you recently purchased! I personally like the Cathay birds you acquired (I also have the same ones to add to my CX fleet).

2. I am happy for you that you are very passionate about collecting aviation models and I appreciate that you take the time to in sharing your pics on the DAC forum.

3. I don’t know why other DAC collectors would be envious or jealous of your own personal decisions to acquire several models during a particular month. I always say that it’s your money and it’s up to you on how you want to spend that money, and if buying 1 or 50 models during a month makes you happy = that’s all that really matters. Heck, I have a little brother that lives in the Bermuda Triangle and he has 5 sets of high-end golf clubs, 24 pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses, compared to my 1 set of 10 year old Mizuno clubs and 1 pair of Killer Loop shades. I am happy for the dude if that’s what makes him happy.

4. I decided 2-3 years ago that I needed to implement a new collecting criteria in order for me to sustain 1/200 collecting and make it more meaningful to me [ A. Fleet building of 5 different airlines; B. Planes we (myself, wife, children) have flown on; C. Any unique model that says = yeah, I stand out and you must purchase me ASAP! ]

5. There is a 1/200 diecast collector in the GTA/Toronto area that I’ve personally met at one of the local collectibles show; I have given him the call sign of “Air Force 1”. He informed me that he owns every Inflight 200 model ever produced that fall within the ‘widebody’ category. I was also enlightened by staff at a local aviation store that he once had a cargo shipping container stacked with 1/200 diecast models shipped to him from Europe!! I was amazed by just the sheer volume that a shipping container could hold and just the $$$ involved for the models and shipping costs. I was told that money is no object for this collector and that he’s also had over 100+ 1/200 diecast models custom made when he couldn’t purchase a particular model (due, to no manufacturer producing that model). I was also informed that he has easily over 600+ 1/200 diecast models in his ever growing collection and that 98% of those 600+ are widebodies! He is not fond of any narrow or smaller jets. So, I can assure you that every widebody/heavy that G200, JC Wings, Inflight 200, AV200, BB200 has rolled out has surely touchdown in his hangar. So it’s cool that his only criteria = must be a widebody! Also, this avid collector is not part of any online forum for model collectors; but prefers to keep his collection in ‘private’ mode for the time being. I am sure that there are several other collectors like him all over the globe that keep their extensive collections to themselves, and no matter how cool it would be to see their collections; I admire and respect their privacy.

6. There shouldn't be any 'sides' to collecting these models; there is only 1 side that ALL of us belong to = we all belong to the side of collecting 1/200 diecast models.

Cheers! T7

My bad. I also meant 1/200 diecast and plastic models. I also have a few Herpa, Hogan and Skymark models in my collection as well. Thank you, T7

Ooops. I forgot to mention that if any other DAC collector/member gives you, Modestos; any future grief for purchasing so many models; you can always tell them that there is a known collector in the Toronto area (I refer to him as Air Force 1) that takes 1/200 model collecting to the extreme and to another level when it concerns acquiring 1/200 diecast models, so you are now "off the hook" for any future negative comments that concerns high number of purchases. I do hope to run into this collector/AF1 again later this year. Cheers! T7

Modestos, I absolutely admire your passion for airplanes. God only knows if i could afford to, I would buy just as many if not more models. My friends and family don't understand my love for this hobby, and a place like DAC is one of the few and appropriate places in the world i could share this stuff... Thanks for sharing your experiences like the one from the store (aviation megastore?) as well as your new arrivals. It truly shows how happy you are, and I'm all for that!

I think the ill feelings are just pure jealousy. I could never get that many models at a time, but if I could, I sure would! So until I can afford more .. I'll just live vicariously through you!

Glad you enjoy this hobby. At the end of the day, that'a what matters most.

......great and colourful collection of models there Modestos......I, like you, have amassed quite a large volume of 1:200's in a relatively short space of time....I have had to resort to putting them all in a storage facility for the time being....I one day wish to have most of my fleets put out on display at Perth International Airport once the extensions/renovations work is completed there at the main terminal building.....

....I have collected only certain fleets but some fleets can have up to 30+ aircraft within each livery-specific fleet type.....I will eventually 'cull' certain models/fleets that I have collected over the time.....once I get some time home to do it that is ........

......FYI DAC-er's: there are bigger 1:200 collectors out there then Modestos and crownvic and Fleedlordatvar etc..... and some are very private collectors too.....completely 'off the radar' if you know what I mean..... some even 'vault/capsule' the MIB model and have a secondary model of the same for 'display' purposes' only .......I believe there is a collector in Asia who has around 10,000+ models with several thousand being only 1:200's......we are a minority that exist here in the 'DAC-world' ..........
