Default which 747-8 is the best?

Hi,

I really would like to buy a Lufthansa B747-8. Unfortunately there are no metal 1/200's yet. I am thinking of the Hogan, but the wing flex seems to be to extreme.. Is the Herpa any better? Noticed that it has les wing flex and antennas on the fuselage..

Who has any of these and is the Herpa really better??

Hi Baerke, I would go for the Herpa version, as the wings on this model has more of a ground configuration, compared to the Hogan I have the BA Cargo, in
Herpa and its the same..

Herpa seems to have small cockpit window.

I bought Skymarks Lufthansa as a matter of choice. Straight wings and good shape.

I would REALLY like for the Herpa one to come back in stock so I can get one. It seems to have been NA since August

We have the British Airways Cargo one, and the Sunrise Orange ones and the Hogan Lufthansa one minus Landing gear. We like them all.

Highly recommend Herpa version. Not only flat wing and antenna you can see bump above doors, which is similar to Herpa Premium series.

It's been fantastic seeing Lufthansa operating these out of YVR recently. They're so much more iconic than the A340s they had been using on that route.

I prefer the Herpa version. I can also tell you the first edition has red aerials below the body while the second release doesn't. The Skymark's is nice but I don't like their landing gear, IT'S HORRIBLE. Smanish, did you place a Hogan landing gear to your B747-8i?

Hogan's is good, it has tge correct shape of the windows but it also has a very annoying wing flexion. I would buy the Boeing Company's B747-8i roll out livery (aka Sunrise livery) but the wing curvature is a hand brake for me.

Greetings!

The last owner Randy did the upgrade with landing gears and something else too, can't remember. Herpa was costly compared to 45 that I spent on this one.

Probably Herpa is better choice if you are not junky. I must have plopped about 7-8K in last 6 months. Need some control now.

Thank you for all your comments. Like the skymarks, looks good but think I'm going for the Herpa wich is stll avaliable here at aviation megastore. There are plenty on the german ebay as well for those of you in search for a Herpa! Like the fact that this Herpa has got antennas, wondering why they don't do that on all their 1/200's Wouldn't be that difficult to do??

Is the Herpa 747-8 made up of plastic/resin? I keep getting the impression that its made of diecast because of the external detailing.

I think same material as the Emirates A380. Hard resiny plastic but fragile landing gear :/

Hi:

Yes, that B747-8 Intercontinental is made of resin and plastic. It has some cool details like the aerials and the that little bump above the doors but definitely it not a metal diecast model.

It would be just perfect if Inflight releases this mould but honestly it would also a deal killer for them. Making a new mold for an aircraft that is only operated by a single airline, it doesn't sound good. Perhaps the freighter could succeed for future release but who knows?

Good day.

Thank you for the great pics everybody! I decided to order the Herpa, had to decide quickly as there were only three left in stock (D-ABYD)! We will probably see no metal B748i in the near future so this is the best option IMHO..

Two questions for the experts;

Is producing a mold for plastic/resin models cheaper as for metal models??
Is Lufthansa satisfied with their B748i's?? Would be great if they are, maybe some more airlines would choose it then...

This is my favorite 747-8.
I'm waiting for a Wing Conversion Kit, just like the one for the 787.
Is there someone who knows if this will be available in the future?

Well, you should ask to Air France, Thai, British Airways, Singapore and Korean why they change to the A380 instead of the B747-8i. Honestly I am surprised because those airlines are big operators of the jumbo and they all changed their preferences from Boeing to Airbus for widebody aircrafts. But I guess the answer will be simple, A380 carries much more passenger than the B747. Lufthansa itself has A380 on its fleet too.

The Intercontinental version will be for a short time in production, unfortunately. So far, there are more cargo orders than the passenger version.

Yes, maybe it does hold more people, but after seeing them both in person, I still prefer the looks of the 747

Give me those five!!! Yes, I still prefer the 747 looks but have to say the A380 is very impressive because it size. I have not seen the A380 at live, I had the chance to watch that aircraft when Air France sent the A380 to Cancun as a testing flight last November, but the distance between Mexico City and Cancun is tremendous.

No need to ask. Everything that happens in the corporate world boils down to money. That's a cold and true fact, just like death and taxes. While I don't claim to be knowledgeable about what goes on behind closed doors, I am sure that Airbus gave them an offer they couldn't refuse. Probably some sort of ludicrous length of time to pay off their jet as opposed to Boeing. Or perhaps some kick-backs. Whatever the reason, you just gotta know that money was at the forefront, not customer loyalty.

For me it has to be Herpa, and even with this I was reluctanct as it is plastic not die-cast metal as most of my collection is the later. In the case of the 747-8 there is nothing produced in die cast metal so we really only have 3 choices, Herpa, Hogan and skymarks.

Regarding models made from solid resin plastic if you place a Herpa (plastic) next to a say JC or Gemini (die cast metal) model it is very hard to pick which one is metal and which one is plastic, until of course you pick them up and notice the difference in weight.

Hogan is still very good however the majority of their models don't have the antennas.
I have a Hogan American MD-11 with antennas and Eva Air MD-90 with antennas.

For me personally the lack on antennas on models detracts from the detail so I tend to avoid them in order to keep my collection consistent but thats just me being pedantic.

Hogan make great models if only they could use antennas on their models i would be purchasing more of them
