I see that you guys make a regular run of 120 units sometimes. If 60 of us DAC members pre-pay you for voted livery, will you make a run of 120 units for us? And sell rest 60 to retailer
I am sure there are some liveries where 60 people are going to jump, maybe put at least half the money down. And one respected member from us who will pay for all of us to you.
Just saying...
747 PanAm Billboard
747 KLM
747 BOAC
747 AirFrance
777 United Battleship
747 Saul Bass
L1011 Saul Bass
A330 Qatar 2006 Games
And many more.....
Make under any black box brand. Cutting out wholesellers/retailers should get us break too.
Got rid of the edited text here because it may not materialize.

Can't see the retailers being happy with this arrangement ! And the factories and brands would have the whole supply chain tied up regarding handling agents, Importing, customs duty, letters of credit for payment, QC, licencing, signing off artwork. And what do you do if they get something wrong and you want to send them back or have refund.....guess what ? No returns and no refunds because your "representative" at the factory signed for them on your behalf.......step carefully.
While your goal (providing the most sought after models to collectors) is admirable, these "group buys" almost inevitably end in disaster (problems collecting payment being the chief issue, followed closely by the whiners complaining the models are not perfect, and asking for changes, or refunds etc. etc.)
Many collectors are big talkers, but will likely suddenly disappear when it comes time to pony up the funds. Just human nature.
Unless you were to put the stipulation: payment due in full, no refunds. That might weed out the time wasters from the serious buyers.
Another question (and the biggest one) has to do with licensing of these various airlines. I doubt that just any manufacturer can produce specific airline models without getting a signed agreement in place first.
I predict you get a polite "thank you for your interest, but no" answer from JC Wings. From their perspective, there is just too much potential hassle for too little potential reward for this idea.

I agree with almost everything you said, especially people backing out at the last second but JC Wings, BBOX, Aviation200, Phoenix etc do their models "illegally" and don't get licenses.
So to serious people who know about the business. What if I want to take a risk and place order and pony up 10-14K. Does this idea have a serious merit? If it ever kicks off, instead of just me it could be DAC "co-operative" or something like that.
All these because, we want particular model that is most desired by us a collector.
Serious advise needed here please.

I would love to see a vote like "My most wanted 1:200 model" and as a manufacturer we are more than happy to do something which can meet most of your wishes. We can also promise to accept pre-order exclusively for registered DA.C members for this specific model. We can even add a print "DA.C" on the model or on the box to make it more meaningful.
Thanks very much for your great idea. We will have some internal discussion shortly and then hopefully suggest some moulds for you to choose. Meanwhile, please don't hesitate to share with us your preference.

Willy remember this is the forum where if a 1/32nd of an inch area is printed in the wrong color people lose control, I wouldn't suggest printing DAC on the model itself

Glad that you are willing to entertain specific requests. Put me down for a United Airlines Battleship T7. Cheers! T7
My local Ford club has done this with t-shirts using our logo. It was an ill advised program and it will not be done again.
If the person proposing this wishes to become a retailer or manufacturer or distributor, in competition with those already established, then please go ahead. I love and support free market capitalism of new entrepreneurs and if he can become a success in such an endeavor, then I will congratulate him.
These models are a fun hobby and the enticement of something rare and special is intriguing to all who collect. But as a consumer I do not want to buy my new Mustang from anyone but a Ford dealer, my fresh buffalo meat from anyone but my local Albertsons or Safeway, my Craftsman tools from anyone but Sears and my new model airplanes from anyone but a legitimate, established retail dealer. I want the protection of buying from a credible source who will satisfy me if there is a problem.
Sorry, I've taken enough risks in my life. I'd rather buy from an established retailer who will accept returns and appreciate my business.
Its a better idea just to post a thread with " I WISH FOR..." and then tally up the 'likes' and make a release decision from there.
For instance, the United 772 ( Battleship ) is obviously a popular choice as even just reading this thread alone.
It covers many destinations in the world, has a huge fan following in the USA and has the honor of the first commercial T7 in service. It looks great and would surely be a hot seller. There you have the ingredients for a kicka$$ release and $$ in the bank for JC and retailers etc.
Other ideas like the Qantas Wunala 744 is also a hot ticket simply because its a stunning aircraft and scheme. Everybody wants one ( almost everyone ) and again another 10 reasons why it would be a winner.
Maybe we should have a poll each month. 10 models listed in each airframe and then everyone should vote. This does not necessarily means that the manufacturer will do it but its a great tool for market research and the collectors voice can be heard.
Good thing about JC/GJ is that they have a presence on this and other forums, and the more you ask for a particular model the higher the chance that model might be considered.
Great suggestion though and thanks Willy/JC for taking the time to listen and share your thoughts.....thats the way to get it right!
here is hoping for some stellar releases in the next year!!!!
Battleship T7 for sure. Have been wanting this since the beginning of this mould.
Plus one from me. First 777 flight I ever took LHR-LAX in 1997, one of the very few 222ERs that didn't have PTVs, same bird there and back. Bloody long flight without a screen!
Still think the battleship and tulip liveries are some of the most beautiful on the T7. Iconic.
I reckon there would be a lot of interest in a normal battleship and also the special promotional N777UA (a -222A) which carried the BOEING 777 titles for a while on entering service after going round the world on a tour. Saw her at Hong Kong in 1995 - Couldn't believe how big the engines were or that a twin could be that massive. Like a 767 on steroids. Wasn't convinced the idea would take off!

Very good idea and couldn't agree anymore with the Qantas Wunala 744..
Battleship T7 for sure. Have been wanting this since the beginning of this mould.
In December of 1995, when I migrated to USA, I flew on this bird from FRA-IAD. This was just two months after the launch. I would very much want this model.
I recommend that every two months we commission one model. Start a poll thread of 10 models. The three winners gets a second poll, and the winner has to have at least 50-60 votes. Collect the funds in advance, QA model gets posted here and then one person place a formal order. Half lands in europe and half lands in US to save on shipping.
Now if you whiny type please stay away from this program. I can trust enough that there will be no gross mistakes from manufacturer, but this window should have been closed, please excuse us.

I would like a Saul Bass United L10-5 though.

Ranchero, can you please make suggestion to avoid pitfalls, based on your experience with Ford club. Would very much appreciate any feedback.

Good for many of you DAC members, but my concern is would this reduce or completely rule out the chance of the subjects being made as a regular release?
I don't believe in this exclusivity business and would rather wait for GeminiJets to make the UA Battleship 772 & BA Landor 772 - which WILL happen and both will be stunning!!

If they give a hint saying "no gaurantee, but you might want to wait", we will drop that request.
Perfectly understand that some subjects highly desired may already be in pipeline. It is little sensitive information for them as well, but I don't know how else we can address that.

It sounds like JC might ensure a certain amount are secured for DAC members but it would be a regular release. JC Wings doesn't want to upset their distributors and retailers by skipping them and selling directly to the customer.
Generally speaking JC Wings models don't normally sell out anyway, even the long wanted Singapore Airlines A380, so I'm sure their releases will always be released as normal.

JC Wings and Gemini have a pretty good relationship together. If its a model that would be a good release for Gemini (United Battleship 777 for example) you would see that be done under Gemini. If its a request that Gemini can't do for legal reasons, you will see it under the JC Wings name.
You won't really get hints for models until they are a month or two out especially if its on a mould that is shared by a different competitor. Gemini models take a few months longer to make to comply with the licensing reasons, production slots and not actually being based where the factories are.
Ever notice in 1/400 scale that Phoenix announces a lot of models the same time Gemini does? Well it takes Gemini six months to do a model where Phoenix can get it ready and announced in a few weeks. They get tipped off on models Gemini is doing and tries to quickly beat them. Sadly thats part of the reason why models are not really "leaked" before its time for them to be released. Being a US based company that has to follow more laws or get sued has huge disadvantages. Not to even go into the extra cost of paying royalties to the airlines when the other companies don't have to.

Can we beat these guys by choosing 4-5 models with one prepaid in half at least with order of 60 minimum and JC/Gemini get to decide which one they want to build now versus not building that might be in the pipeline. That way some anonymity is maintained on your future release?

At least for Gemini, they wouldnt be interested if there was 60 minimum from DAC, it would be something that would be a good seller everywhere. For Gemini it would be more of taking a highly requested model from these polls to make. I think only JC would be interested in doing something directly with DAC. The minimum production amount for Gemini is a lot higher than 60, 120 even 300 pieces.

Considering the talk over the UA Battleship 777, I'm sure you could easily sell 300 units. You must have seen how quickly the 757 went off of the shelves. Now it is a ghost in the 1/200 market among the AA 757. UA battleship is a classic livery, and I am surprised more have not been made! It would be especially pleasing to have a 767 in that collection, as I completely missed on getting the 757.
One to to make exclusive releases is start a club, Aeroclassics run the same kinda thing, Members join up and must take what ever is produced, If they dont pay up, they get kicked out of the club.
There is a risk with 1:200 because the models will be more expensive but perhaps you guys can get 5 options and the one with the most vote gets made and you have to buy it.
Even if its not some members cup of tea they can always sell it on and hopefully something better comes along for them next time.
