Default My Photo Archive Thread

I will use this thread to showcase my hangar as well as my future arrivals. Moderators, if this thread belongs elsewhere, please move it to the appropriate area. Thanks. All of these models are 1:200 scale.

Well, I did some shooting as promised over the last two days as time allowed. These are my very first diecast aircraft in this scale and I hope to continue collecting for years to come. As with any type of collecting, it is recommended to stay with a certain theme. It helps keep things logical and less costly. (These things are expensive!) That being said, my theme is the Eighties. I wish to gather all of the liveries that I remember seeing as a kid during various trips in that decade. What can I say, I'm a cheatline kind of guy. Enjoy.

Thank you friends. As I write this, there are two more planes on route so keep a lookout from time to time.

Some nice models you have there.... always gotta love the L1011.... The -500 mould is very nice that JC / Gemini use so would recommend you adding more to your collection....

The Gemini200 Pan Am L1011 for instance is a beauty i assume that would fit your criteria?

Nice models and nice pictures, but i think the pictures should be scaled down a little. They're way oversized! By the way Welcome to DAC again and i look forward to more pictures!

Absolutely. I remember PAN AM years back at O'Hare. What I remember is the black lettering, not the billboard style so yes that L-1011 would be a welcome addition. BTW, that Delta widget livery was also used in the Eighties. I'll definitely have to get me one.

Sure. I am using a Canon EOS 50D SLR with two strobes. One soft box and one umbrella. Lens is the Ultrasonic 28-135 IS. Tabletop studio with black background and smoked glass for reflection. Post processing is done in Photoshop. Thanks for asking.

Thank you Heavy. The NWO DC-10 is the sole reason I started collecting. I've always loved that plane as my avatar shows. When I saw it arrive in 1:200 I was hooked. I know that it should really be polished, but I have read that IF has a problem with that mould. It doesn't bother me either way because I love it. It's my holy grail.

Your Avatar Is Perhaps One Of The Most Agressively Beautiful Shots Of A DC-10, But I Still Prefer The Boeling Shoe Over The Thermometer Livery,
And Just Remember, The DC-10 Will Always Take 2nd Place To The Tristar!
And That's A Fact! Why? Because L-1011 Heavy Said So! That's Who!

I had to look that reference up. lol I remember seeing a DC-10 with that red/grey bowling shoe livery approaching MCO Orlando back in.... oh gosh probably 2004 or 2005. While it is surely beautiful, I still do prefer the thermometer as you say.

So I ran across this fantastic image of Miami International Airport from the '80s on the internet and thought I would have a little fun with it. All credit for the source image goes to the photographer; sorry I don't know their name.

Look what arrived at my hangar recently. Now I know that this edition represents the last of the 200 series, but this is the livery that I remember all through my childhood. The first time I saw it I was at little league practice and this strange desert sand colored bird was floating by heading towards Chicago MDW. Since then, whenever I hear "Southwest" I think Midway Airport. Enjoy.

I can't tell you how much I adore this plane. I went ahead and used a white surface this time in order to showcase the polished belly. Gemini has done a fantastic job on this one and now I realize why it cost so darn much.
Enjoy.

Great photos!

I love my "Clipper Bald Eagle", if I had to choose my top five favourites, that model would be #2 (right behind my #1, IF200's "Clipper Young America".) Gemini really hit a home run with that L-1011 model. And judging by the prices it is commanding on eBay, other collectors agree with me.

I will be interested to see what future models join your collection.

That particular model seems to have become hard to find, recently.

About a year ago, it appeared regularly on eBay, and several online vendors also had them for sale. I haven't seen one for sale in a while, though.

I was lucky to pick up mine for about $150 if I recall correctly. I also bought another one for about the same price +/-, which was turned into a custom "Billboard".

One should turn up for sale eventually, after all InFlight200 made 744 of this model, so it is among their widest releases in terms of production number.

Two more arrivals recently. Both of 'em are excellent tri-holers. I finally got myself a Saul Bass. I opted for the Gemini on that one because I wanted a -200 UA. I'm not partial on the stubby -100. Oddly, Gemini opted to put the current United logo on the box instead of the retro. The Alaska is awesome. I am really partial to IF's models. To me they seem to be the most accurate and best quality. Strangely, when I was a kid I always thought that was an image of Abraham Lincoln. It took some years before I realized the Eskimo connection. Enjoy.

Great stuff, Tony! The MIA photos are particularly good (and convincing). And you have me rethinking my earlier decision to pass on the Gemini United Saul Bass 727. She's a beauty. Question: Where did you get the parking ramp?

Great photos! Seems we enjoy the same airlines/airframes/era, Tony. The TWA B741 and the AS B722 are both on my wish list. I keep hoping we'll see the NWO DC-10 in a polished version, though I kinda doubt that will happen. Hoping to see a NWO B747 in polished, too.

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, the MIA photos came out good and I've got some more photos I'm going to try to use. The ramp foil came from this person's web page (...::: Download Airport Foils :::...) though he has them sized for 1:400 scale. Also they're created using Word so I had to get a program that could convert .doc files to image files. Then I cropped and resized the foil to roughly 1:200 and finally printed it on card stock paper.

Yup, I'm an Eighties child so I'm trying to collect liveries from that era. Oddly, Lufthansa appears to be rather difficult to find seeing that it is Germany's premier airline. Add the fact that I'm over here in the 'States so I would have to get a transcontinental jet. And yes, if NWO were to come out in polished form I would be all over that.

The only Lufthansa model I own is this '80s livery B722. Though I've been tempted to add either a Herpa DC-10 and/or the Herpa Modell Edition A300, both in '80s livery.

I've seen the 722, but I would need to get something more long range capable. Though that is a sweet looking model. Are the Herpas diecast or plastic? I would like to stick with diecast if possible. Perhaps IF might produce a nice 747 for us one day....

Diecast Airliner photography the way it was meant to be done. Great stuff. Later, Doug

Why something more long-range capable? You stated you wanted a transcontinental jet, not intercontinental. At any rate, the Herpa models are plastic (Modell Edition being highly sought after for their details which are on par with diecast), but you may want to consider Inflight200's version of their LH DC-10 if you must have diecast. But yes, an '80s livery LH B747 would be very welcomed in the 1:200 collector community.

Thanks Doug. Glad you like 'em. Though it may be a while 'til I post some more new arrivals since the holiday season is fast approaching. Gotta buy gifts for the fam and all. But, I will make the exception for the IF AA DC-10 when it hits the shelves.

Thank you for the correction. I meant to say intercontinental since those are the kinds of planes I would see from the U.K. Not sure if a 727 could navigate an ocean. Cheers.

I thought perhaps that may have been case. It is confusing!

They most definitely could. Pan Am and other carriers flew them to Europe.

Looking forward to seeing more photos as your collection grows!!

Really? Well now, I might have to reconsider the Lufthansa 727.... She is a beauty. Same goes for British Airways, SAS, Swissair, etc...

Have you tried using the wide body aircraft parking apron?

Not as of yet, but perhaps I can get around to trying it out today. Though a wide body apron would definitely require multiple sheets. I'll post some shots when I finish.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about. I've downloaded and cropped several of the narrow-body aprons and will print them at work on Monday. Can't wait to see how they turn out!!
