This is a pre-production sample model. The antennas get added when the mould itself is finished.

There are a jumber of MD11s that i'd take in diecast (number two engine mold permitting) without even blinking and KLM is one.

Martinair current livery would be another. As you point out, FedEx is another.

UPS current livery
EVA Air Cargo
Centurion Air Cargo
Lufthansa Air Cargo
Transmile Air Services
Aeroflot Cargo
Alitalia

PS---PH-KCE? That's the first MD-11 built with the extended #2 inlet bulge, so it should be extra-obvious that something's off.
I bought the Herpa (LH Freighter). It has curves in all the right places, but a face only a mother could love. The number two inlet should be more round and extend back with a bit of a , for lack of better works - kink....as on the fuselage/tail cone join of the 747sp, but on as severe.

I have just received the first batch of pictures of the HobbyMaster release and... well... I must say it looks like most of HM's commercial jet releases. A bit stilty, a bit clumsy, just a bit (or more) off.

Do you have an idea why it might have been called SAMPLE??? If it was the final product you could already buy it in stores...

Negative, LH456, it already is in the stores. Make the short jump from Frankfurt over to Amsterdam and check out the Aviaton Mega Store.

Especially since every HM MD-11 so far has the exact same awful cockpit that ruins the whole look of the model--they're obviously not going to change it. It's an inherent issue, not a "sample" thing.

(and even if they did change it, what point would there be to do so now, after the highly-wanted ones like AA and KL have already been done?)

Hello,

just great to see an new MD-11-mould, I dream for a LTU MD-11 in 1:200 for so long!!

Anyway, here are my thoughts on this mould:

- As said, the roof above the Cockpit seems to be to flat (777-like), same thing below the nose. I'm not sure if the point of the nose should be a tiny little bit more upward.

- As said, there are two versions of the #2 duct on the MD-11. The older is smaller, but also has a little hump on top: As seen on the pictures, the highest point of the inlet is the joint with the stabilizer, thats not the way it is on the real thing, the highest point is ca. half way between inlet and stabilizer. Then, on both versions there is a clearly visible seam between the inlet part an the rest of the duct. On the old version, it goes vertically down at the stabilizer fairing. On the new, larger version, it starts directly in front of the duct ring frames that carry the stabilizer and hence goes down diagonal.

- The screwdriver-tailcone may be a little short, but most important, the edges should be rounded out more.

- The flap hinges need some rework. Similar to the #2 duct, there are two versions on the MD-11. The first was the same as DC-10, with no extension beyond the wing trailing edge. The second version shown here does extent beyond the trailing edge, but the curves on the outer pair here just don't fit, they're way to soft. Also, PH-KCE has the old version mounted as have far the most of the MD-11, so I would strongly prefer the old version, if only one version can be done.

- As said, the wing leading edge seems to be to pointy and the wing-body-fairing doesn't seem quite right, i think it should be extended forward and rounded out more smoothly

- Most important thing of all: The cockpit windows. DC-10/MD-11 cockpit windows aren't correct on any model I know. Most common mistake seen here as well as on the Aviation DC-10: In reality there is a kink on the bottom frame of the fore side window, and it is noticeably in front of the point, where the frame goes up, that separates the fore and the aft side window. Also, the aft window is to square-like. Look at that one... Photos: McDonnell Douglas MD-11(F) Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net

So, that's what I noticed so far. Really really looking forward on the model!

Any news on when this model is coming out?? Been waiting for this model for sooo long...I bought the HM KLM (and must say, it is much better than the first release) because I couldn't wait no more...But will buy the better mould from JC/GJ aswell the moment it comes out!

So please choose another registration for this one (PH-KCA or whatever but no KCE!)

Nice!

Time will tell if JCwings will fix the issues we mentioned over the last posts.

Engine inlet nr2 is the most obvious.

Cool Re: 1:200 KLM MD-11 New Color SAMPLE

It would not suprise me if the release date of the JC KL MD11 is scheduled to be shortly before the retirement of the KL MD11 fleet (final two flights scheduled on 25oct14).
From a JC marketing point of view this would make sense in order to boost sales. Especially considering that World Airways (sadly) closed down recently, leaving KLM to be the sole airline in the world which operates passenger version MD11's.

Same thoughts! I really wish it would be sooner though!

Even in real life the cockpit side windows are massseeeef ! Wonder why.
What about a couple of fantasy Air Europe and British Caledonian MD's ?

Very few makers figure out that they "pinch" and and then have a continual top and bottom edge flare aft.

I might be really reaching here but ...

What is the possibility of having multiple MD-11 releases the same month from JC and also Gemini200 ?? (This is a shared mold isn't it ?)
