Smile Gemini Wooden Stands

I have just started recieving my first Gemini 200 models and I really hate the chrome tripod stands they come with, maybe because i prefer the take off position to display my planes. I have noticed that Gemini makes the sturdier wooden stands available as stand alone products to buy and they come in two different sizes. I currently have Boeing 727-200, 737-400, 757-200, 767-300, Tupolev TU-154M and Airbus A321, some of which have arrived and others on order. I'd like to have a bit of help regarding which size of wooden stand to go for, the small narrow bodied type or the medium body ones. Sorry for my complete ignorance, but i just started collecting planes over a month ago.

Hi & welcome!

I faced similar problems/questions: http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...-question.html.

In general, which stand you need varies extremely depending on model manufacturer and type. Some models have no stand holes at all (e.g. IF200 Boeing 747), and for some of those there are alternative stand constructions available.

Most Gemini 200 models have stand holes in one of three sizes. Then there are models for which there are no stands it seems. I would love one for my JC Wings Tu-154, but there seems to be none.

Herpa normally - at least for the plastic a/c - uses an own stand design which also fits on many Hogans. Skymarks/Risesoon should be different IIRC.

JC Wings often have stand holes, but many of my models (even fairly big ones) feature the smallest Gemini stand holes which the only available stand I know would never hold...

But be aware that this can differ if a manufacturer used different molds for different releases...

Cheers,
Ben

P.S.: If you can tell us the exact model you have (with maker), we might be able to help you finding the right stand.

As far as I can remember all my Gemini 200 came with stands provided. That said, the following information is necessarily generic as I do not know your exact models and even within one manufacturer's product line the mold and stand hole size can vary.
  • Boeing 727-200 - I have none from Gemini 200, but it seems to be the small tripod stand (cf. this offer)
  • Boeing 737-400 - there seem to be at least two different stands, tripod and full metal.
  • Boeing 757-200 - full metal stand and now probably new narrowbody wood stand
  • Boeing 767-300 - wooden widebody stand
  • Tupolev TU-154M - tripod stand
  • Airbus A321 - same as 757 I'd think
All this to my best knowledge but without guarantees.

Hi:

Ugh, that tripod stand is a real crap. And must said that came with some Gemini Jets heavy models like the B727. I had to buy a replacement for that one and also broke too. So weak in those plastic joints.

Now that Gemini has brought wooden stands back, I ordered almost a dozen of them. No models for my interest these months, so I used that money for something I really need.

These new wooden stand are for narrow and wide bodies, have to say Gemini mentioned the big stand are not designed for the A380. I think that one should be much bigger.

About the holes beneath the models, I guess you wouldn't have much problem for JC or Jet-X collectibles. I will see if I am correct as the stands I ordered are for my Mexicana 727 collection.

Greetings

The new wooden stands only work for the 1/200 narrow body bodies that have the rubber ring in the hole in the model. The ones that don't have that rubber ring won't work with them.

Considering Gemini probably make the stands for collectors of the models they produce, it would be nice of them if they made a list of compatible models for each different one. Like that no nasty surprises...
