Default New BBOX Releases

This caught my eye in the latest ARD newsletter;

BBOX in 1/200 scale have announced a Pan American DC-8-62 with a polished belly, Boeing 737-200 Delta "beach towel", Douglas DC-10-10 Delta widget, Boeing 727-200 PSA "Donald Duck" and a nice pair of Cathay Pacific 747-400s in the current scheme B-HOW and VR-HOT

Apologies if this is old news, I could not see any other posts on these forthcoming releases but personally the release of a Cathay 744 in the current scheme is great news

The old green / white scheme never floated my boat and I didn't want plastic... so yay!

Beach towel = Wavy Gravy = DeltaFlot.

OK, here's the Donald Duck PSA:

Photos: Boeing 727-214/Adv Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net

Are we sure BBOX uses the IF200 727-200 mold? Seeing that I have the Gemini PSA, I don't think it's something I'll be buying. But the Delta 732, PAA DC-8, and maybe the DC-10. Great set of models from the mystery BBOX.

My first post here at DAC
Also, a beginner collector.

I'm excited about the Cathay 747-400s in the current livery too!
Can anyone enlighten me about the difference between VR HOT & B HOW?
I understand VR may have the British flag on the tail, and maybe the B version will have the Chinese flag? Any other differences?

Thanks a bunch!

Welcome to the forum. I am not a CX expert, but I do know VR-HOT was the first Cathay B747-400 to be painted in the current livery. I remember working on it in Vancouver, first time here after the switch over from the green.

Didn't think i'd be the only person delighted to see the CX 744's

I've often wondered why we've never seen one in diecast until now and thought it may have been because of licensing issues??

Anyway... they are up for pre-order on ARD's site and no doubt others will have them listed shortly.

I'm very excited about the Delta widget DC-10-10. In their newsletter, ARD also mention the release of another AA 747SP. Do we know if it's any different from the first release other than the tail number? My guess is that they made them both during the same manufacturing run and simply changed the number. But that's just a guess.

I didn't notice that it said DC-10-10. Have there been many other -10 releases? Most have been -30, and the NWA and JAL -40s.

Which model of the Cathay are you guys getting? I'm thinking about VR HOT as it maybe one of the last models with the British flag on the tail.

I asked this question in another thread. I believe it is the first Series 10 in this scale. It has a shorter wingspan than the 30 and 40. I hope they get this correct on the model. Dragon Wings got it correct in 400 scale.

I was looking in the database and only saw IF200-LE releases in -10, but also those three Mexicana's that came out a while back, which are -15s. The -10 doesn't have the center landing gear either. Boy, there are a ton of possibilities for this mold, topping my list would be a POLISHED AA DC-10 for sure.

Word is that no official sales one-sheet has yet been issued to retailers in the US on these models. Thus, some confusion whether these releases are from "Blue Box" or "Aviation 200." I'm noting this in case you try locating any of this batch on the website of your favorite retailer.

By the way, there's additional discussion of these releases in this thread:

I just received the news from my contact in Hong Kong; the models are coming from the 'Blue Box' factory; using the Inflight mould.

Cheers! T7

Which is also Aviation200 My AV200 United 747 packing box had a inflight200 code covered up with tape! Anyway, I do think these will all have the BBOX codes/packaging though.

Thanks for the heads up. I got the email from Waffle on his pre-orders for these planes. I also talked to Steve form DiecastAirplane.com and he pretty much said what you stated. He said they are coming, just waiting for the offical word.

Hey ya'll,

I'm relatively new to this hobby, since December 2012.

Is there a difference in quality/materials between Blue Box, Aviation and Inflight 200s? And sometimes I see Inflight models, but then also called Blue Box especially in the codes used. I'd like to know what differences there are, if any.

Thanks!

THAT is funny. So at the IF200 factory, it is out the rear left door for AV200 models and out the rear right door for BBX 200 models?

Not criticizing, just wanted to get it all straight.

Yeah, I would also like to be enlightened. So does Inflight share their B747 moulds with 2 separate companies = Aviation 200 and Blue Box 200; meaning they are 'contracted' by both companies to produce (AV 200 and BB 200) models on their behalf?

Thank you, Robert. I am thinking along the line now = 1 clan comprised of Inflight , JC Wings, AV200 and BB200 all being cordial to eachother so that they can deliver some smiley faces to the 1/200 collecting crowd!

How do you get Waffle for $109.95 + Free Shipping when it's listed at $139.95 & Jetway $99.00 + Shipping when it's listed at $129.95? Let me know as I'm going to put an order together.

My source is telling me someone jumped the gun with this and other retailers jumped their gun on that initial gun jumper!

No information about most of the above models hasn't even been provided by the factory to the main N. America distributer yet.

I think he was talking about the DC-8 and/or DC-10. But to answer your question, add the model to your cart and type "FREESHIP" in the coupon box to get Waffle's free shipping(over $100). But IMO, there's basically no price differece between Waffle and Nick. Nick may be cheaper if you have a big order to defray the shipping costs if you don't have a discount code with Waffle.

I struck early at Waffle as I purchased the CX pair when they were initially listed at 129.95 less my 10% discount plus about $6 shipping($24 total for 4 items) for a flyaway cost of about $123 each for the CX pair, and about $105 each for the DC-8 and DC-10.

edit: DiecastAirplane has them now too. The CX 744's are listed at $149.95 and with both the "DACDISCOUNT" code and their automatic free shipping, the total cost is about $135, maybe slightly cheaper than Waffle or Nick.

No information about most of the above models hasn't even been provided by the factory to the main N. America distributer yet.

Robert is correct. The moulds are owned by IF, and placed in the JC factory for the purpose of producing for IF, however, the unethical scumbags at JC also use the mould for the purpose of competing with IF, their customer, at much cheaper prices, using their customer's tooling to do it.
Then on the US side of the pond, you have all the dealers competing with each other, trying to see who can get the quicker jump on the other, and who can give the stuff away cheaper!!
I wonder when the JC/AV/BBox dealers will be offering mail in rebates to their customers, so that ultimately, the collector's costs are brought down to zero!

They are not a distributor though? If the people they get their models from has no idea about when these other models are coming how are they so positive? Not saying it wont happen but I haven't heard anything that confirms it in solid stone.

Once you know who those 4-5 solid online retailers are, I think you can rely on much of their announcements... Anything beyond that would likely be a manufacturer backing out or backed up...

I still think one person posted it and the others based their announcements on that!

The French saying is "laissez faire" or minimal govt. intrusion into economic matters. An English economic ideal is one of "Market Capitalism" whereby whatever will sell is produced.

Herr Klein, is there a Chinese economic saying/maxim along these lines that you know of?

Placed my pre-order for the Cathay VR-HOT from Waffle just before the price had gone up. I had a feeling the price would start inching up, but not this soon!

Do you guys think the Cathay 747's will sellout?

And thanks for enlightening me about IF sharing their mould with Aviation & JC. What I like about IF and Gemini is the tiny red crystal/gem they use on their models as the light - love that detail!
And to be honest, I wish someone would re-make the British 747-400 Landor as IF messed up the dark blue paint. Sorry, don't mean to go off topic.

Ok now I think they are coming soon since the N. America distributor is getting word.
