Nice photos indeed, but the Shuttle is just plain ugly IMHO. That nose, those windows... Not to mention the exaggerated panel lines and the tail fairing. Was this carved out of wood and painted by a 10 year old? The SCA is somewhat better, but the small vertical stabilizers should be vertical instead of tilted inwards and backwards. I got so excited when I read that an SCA + Shuttle combo is coming out, but now I'm disappointed. I won't buy this, it's not worth the money.

Thanks for the pictures. Top notch for sure. I am still on the fence about this one. Love the patch. Where did you get the holder for it? I need a couple of them myself. Thanks again.

The acrylic holders are actually meant for iphone, got it from ebay from a store in vegas. Bought a pack of 12 for cheap.

Nice shots, indeed. But the horizontal stabilizer on the 747 is a deal killer for me, along with the shuttle. I think I will wait for an improved version in the future, maybe baremetal? With Challenger on top?

Thats a job for the moderator...where are they anyway? And again, more of the same, bashing one collectors choice/model, we all know by now that theres no such thing as THE PERFECT MODEL , and trust me, if you keep waiting for another release with a better looking(?) Shuttle, etc, you might as well pull up a chair.

Stupid Remarks???

Well let's see...The shape of the area around the windows looks odd to say the least.

The tail fins are crooked.

What is with all those lines on the orbiter?

The orbiter doesn't even sit centered on the 747...look at the head on shot.

No side RCS jets on the nose

The faring is a separate piece. Looks to be part of the orbiter in the pics.

Those are very nice pics btw.

Fantastic photos...and thanks to aviation 200 for saving me from buying this model. A few amazing mistakes....
The small vertical stabilisers are inclined, the forward attachment point is to far back ont the aircraft and shuttle....and the shuttle its self...well that's just wrong...

Thanks SKF for posting your beautiful pictures. Sorry about insensitive comments from some folks. I know from your postings at the DHP that you weren't happy with the shuttle either. Each collector who badly wanted this release will have to decide for himself or herself if the rendering is acceptable or not. You have done us all a great service by posting your detailed pics.

I have to agree with the others. This would be such a no-brainer if the Shuttle looked decent. I may get it anyways though. Great pics OP. Thanks!

Would love to hear SKF's thoughts about the possibilityy of modding the twin vertical stabilizers. Might be an easy fix. I also wonder if the attachment struts can be moved a little further forward on subsequent releases, or if they are permanently tooled / machined to the SCA model? If these could be fixed, and the shuttle painted more tastefully on subsequent releases, the improvements could be huge. Unfortunately, probably not much can be done to improve the profile of the shuttle.

Unfortunately if you decide to correct the vertical stabilizers by breaking them off and re-gluing them, there's a few things wrong with it:
1.) the little portion that connects to the vertical stabilizers is too short to reach the elevators

2.) even if you manage to get them straight, from the side view it's still slanted because the way they cut out the hole doesn't allow you to tilt it forward.

I gotta give props to Dragon Wings for doing it right in 1/400 scale: shuttle, positioning of both the vertical stabilizers and the front struts

I do agree! Spot on in 1/400! Why can't they do it just like Dragon spot on in 1/200?

Dragon has the positioning of the shuttle correct too.

Sorry for the fellow collectors who don't see these errors but i can't give 150USD for this model and so this one will stay out of my collection!

I totally agree, it a large expense for such a bad model and those errors I can't get past for £100($150). Such a shame as after the VC-25 this was next on my most wanted list. I'll stick with the 1/400 version.

Agree too, why can't Dragon do the model in 1:200. They are able to make some really good models but usually not in the scale you want.

Thanks for that, SKF. Bummer. Too bad there isn't a contact for AV200 like there is for IF200. If this were Inflight's we could flood them with email, and I feel reasonably certain some issues would be addressed.

I saw the space shuttle launch at night many years back! The night it was supposed to launch that week was scrubbed so my GF and I went to Ron Jon's to do some shopping (I thought there were several Ron Jon surf shops in Florida, based on all the bloody signs they had in the state along the highways! I was told the shop we were spending our money was the ONLY Ron Jon's, too funny!) So we returned the next night and this time it was a successful launch. I will never forget the sight and sound of that shuttle lifting off into the night sky; everything around me rumbled and shook and night turned into day as 7.8 million pounds of rocket thrust was being expended to lift that baby into orbit!

Big thumbs up to SuperKungFu for sharing pics of his new models. You take awesome pictures from all different angles/perspectives of the model which is a bonus to the DAC collectors/members when viewing. Thank you for bringing back memories of my Florida/Cape Canaveral trips! I hope they will release this model with the A&A version B747 sometime in the future and please a redesigned shuttle; be cool to have the polished B747. Cheers! T7

In addition to the above, the shuttle appears too far back as the front shuttle nose support is close to the bottom of the upper deck bulge and needs to be considerably forward. Almost looks as if the shuttle is undersized.

Thanks to SuperKungFu's pictures a no-brainer became a no-brainer.

For sure I won't buy it! Most surprising to me is how they could mess this "must have" up... so many blatant mistakes.

Probably we are just lucky if we get an almost perfect model. These model makers don't have a clue of the details and they don't care.

Very true, almost like profit before product......the only way for the manufacturers to understand this is by the models not being sold.

I wouldsay that yes, those vertical stabilizers are a bit off, but c'mon, its not that bad!
And there is no such thing, nor will ever be, like the perfect model.
Let us enjoy the hobby, the ones who buy models and the ones who dont.be it resin, plastic or mahogany, aluminium, you name it, from Schabaks to Pacmins, theres always something there that makes us love these little guys.a memory, most of the times, an airshow, having flown the type,etc...this .is a hobby.lets enjoy it the best we can!

Yes in a way I do agree with you, theres more to life and that it is just a hobbie so to get annoyed at mistakes from the manufacturer seems petty......BUT...this is an expensive hobbie and for me the fact that the manufacturer seems almost blase about the quality and happy to ignore bad mistakes is a sign of lack of interest. I do accept that you`ll never get the perfect model(except the G/F) but when your paying out alot of money then I do expect the model to pretty much bang on.....the most perfect model I own is the BA 747 in current colours...the red stripes on the lower ariel..etc makes it worth the price and distinguishes it from a toy...sorry to go on....

Perfect or not that doesn't play a role at such times like these
This is always something to look out for there is also a scale 1:200 Antonov AN-225 + Buran Shuttle , maybe an idea to put along side with this set, these diecast Antonov's are also made and sold in the Ukraine.

Would be amazing if JC Wings or Gemini Jets would release a set like this... both Boeing 747SR-46 + Rockweel Space Shuttle & Antonov AN-225 + Buran, that would be my biggest dream.

This is a very old thread. Wildpig, I purchased my copy from ARD ebay store about two years ago. If you ever track this model down, the box is 1/4 more in size than a standard 747 box. What does this mean? Shipping is through the roof. In actual fact in my case it was 120% more than the cost of the model to ship UK to Sydney Australia. Good luck tracking one down! You are very resourceful I see. Just be prepared as I have warned you about shipping.

Did the Rockwell Space Shuttle also come with exchangeable landing gear?

Hi Goldie,

No. The shuttle is made of wood and has three location holes to sit in the cradle on top of the 747 shuttle transporter

Despite the fact that this model was released some seven years ago, I guess we are learning something new almost every day in the scale model business. I for one recently learnt that one of the biggest and leading manufacturers of 1/200 models silently introduced plastic parts on it’s die-cast metal models instead of the familiar metal parts that you as a customer may be expecting. Some collectors mentioned it here on this forum, and it was about major parts such as stabilizers or something...

That's interesting to know it's wood. I still want it to sit next to the 1/200 buran/an-225 i am getting.
