Default 1:200 Display with cabinet lights

I've never been able to take pics with the cabinet lights on, without using the flash. Hope this on is clear enough to see the effect of the LED lights on the planes. Its more soothing and relaxing in reality

Cool Re: 1:200 Display with cabinet lights

I'm also drawn to the Egyptair 777. Striking, indeed. I also like a number of the classic liveried 747's including the two full-paint Qantas ones (very cool). I'd love those if I had more space to display them.

Thanks for the shots.

Very nice display. I'm envious, you have a Tropical in 200 scale. To bad Herpa's Premium version wasn't released.

LeFreakie, I didn't know you have a Tropical! Lovin' the 747s! (And of course, the former livery QRs.) Great cabinetry and lighting, too. I'm hoping to get something together this year so I can drag my models out of their boxes.

It's very relaxing to display them this way . I have about a third in their boxes and those will be going up for sale soon. I figured if they are going to be in their boxes then, there is no point keeping them. One of those QR models should look very familiar to you

Yeah, I'm amazed at how many collectors don't display their models.

IKEA. They come in a set of four strips which can used individually or a large strip or two strips each, depending on one's requirements.

Tell me about those warm lights at night...especially if in a partially darkened room or for that matter they stand out even well in a brightly lit room.....

Love your SQ collection....you should start your own SQ cabinet LED light thread. Those seem to be IKEA cabinets too but I don't think we get that size here.

Btw here are my A380s. Sorry but I had to use a bounced flash for this one

Cabinet is also from IKEA...as well as the glass doors...not photographed. but you can see Sgt. Moody's for an example.

Seriously guys, invest a bit in these cabinets, lights and it will make your collection so much worth having them (at least the ones you can display) not to mention a great conversation piece when your guests and friends come over!!

Not really possible on point and shoots, but if you have a mounted flash, you turn the head of the flash upwards and away from the object being photographed. It prevents shadows and helps light up the object nicely. Of course, our more senior DSLR specialists on here could shed more light.

Oh, I see. I suspected it may have something to do with an indirect flash. Not possible with my cr&ppy lil' Canon A520. lol.

So then the planes below are 1:400? I always thought they were 1:200s are was quite amazed how you found shelves to display five of them at the same time

Hey 1:200Freak = Great models! Love the cool display cabinet and lighting effects on your birds! You are torturing 'beltloader' with the House A380, hee hee! We all have to hookup this spring! Noticed your Qatar lineup; are you going to acquire the Phoenix 787? Threshold and Aviation World had a bunch last week when I poked my head into their stores. Cheers! T7

Like many others I also use Ikea cabinets. I've used the Billy bookcase system. I've got 3 bookcases side by side. each case is 80cm wide, 38 cm deep and 202cm high. I have added glass doors to each cabinet and replaced the wooden shelves with glass shelves. To illuminate the cabinets I've used Ledberg lighting from Ikea. This comes in 3 stripss of connectable led lights strips. I just continue adding strips so I've got a strip of lights at the top and another strip under the centre shelf. With the glass shelves I've added extra so I've got 14 shelves in each book case.

grt models. i love ikea too. but these r closed from 3 sides. detolf is better (viewable from all sides).
sorry to hijack this thread: need to move a part of collection to basement. should i buy more detolfs or build glass and wood shelves there (i am DIY challenged person, to some extent though)? after financial and aesthetic consideration + trouble of building which way to proceed?

Trouble with the Detolf is that the shelves are too far apart. My wife has one for her dolls. The Detolf is great for tall narrow items but for aircraft there is a lot of wasted space.
There was a post on DAC where someone had added extra shelves by welding more supports to the frames and then adding more glass shelves.
The price from Ikea varies so much. I believe in the USA a Detolf sells for around $50 here in Australia Ikea charge around $150.
Let people know what a Detolf sells for where you are?

if i am not wrong its 79CAD in toronto. i have 5 of those. attempted to add shelves then backed off. i guess they set the shelves scientifically. if u add extra shelves that creates a narrow viewing angle (so u cant see the back end of the shelves). what to do?
