Loved this colour scheme. It's a great piece of design. But can't bring myself to buy any models with it on because of the era in SA's history that it's associated with. It's a personal thing, being half SA myself. Although my dad managed to get out of the country on this very plane, when he heard he was going to be 'invited' in by the authorities for an 'interview'.

I wish a dealer here in Germany would stock it.
My order is still open (No hope to ever get it this way), while another dealer switched from 'never heard of this item' to 'sold out' just a week ago.

No by a few hundred miles I'd have thought

Actually, having missed the Drakensburg, I am swithering (good Scottish word that) over whether to get this one or not.

Dai Kong - What the latest word on the American 747 Sp from Inflight 200, other than "it's delayed" What is the delay about? How much longer?

"great piece of design."

"But can't bring myself to buy any models with it on because of the era in SA's history that it's associated with"

I agree wholeheartedly with the first statement. The SP paint scheme so well mirrors that of the antelope type animal (forgot what it is called) that is symbolic to that country. Elegant, simple, evocative - superb design work.

But I thoroughly disagree with the rejection of the model for the historic era during which the airplane was current. I do not reject models of German aircraft from a distasteful era when the airplane has great historical significance. Nor do I reject models of Delta and Eastern airliners that served segregated airport terminals in the American south.

We are here for the aviation history - not to commemorate what may be to some distasteful politics. It is the airplanes that matter; it is the history of the airplane that matters - not the history of the domestic politics of a country that may offend some.

If it is a beautiful model of a significant airplane, I say buy it! I want one too.

I agree, it was a machine, a chunk of metal, it had no political bent, it wasn't it's fault it end up where it did!

That said, we tend to have the luxury of being distanced from these tinpot and madcap regimes, I mean, I have a large Air Koryo model of an Il-62 and is the biggest model I own (it's mahoosive..... by my standards anyway). Very good. But if I had had to have escaped from North Korea in fear of my life, then I might just have had one or two reservations about it.

Got it today!

So glad, you still had some in stock! Wonderfull model (gear is a little bit warped, but that I can rectify). Beautiful livery on a great little jet.

To everybody still hesitating: Get one while still available!

Cheers!

Hello... I love this model and bought one not long ago. The real thing flew into (and out of) my hometown here in Perth Australia on occasion back in the day, alternating with its bigger sister B742 from Jo'burg. Awesome livery, probably their best ....striking, simple and dynamic with the sharp angles of the springbok and "mask". Funny, at the same time QF flew their SPs from Perth to Harare during the 80's... was a real SP-time at Perth on Saturday afternoons. Does anyone know where I can get the IF200 SAA B747-200 in these colours? I fell asleep at 3am many moons ago trying to win one on ebay ..... so Im willing if the price aint crazy ....

Paid a helluva crazy price for mine - but I decided it was worth it (now, comparing it to the Bandai Saturn V, it was cheap as hell). Got it from a DA.C member via the forum. Other than that, the only official option would be eBay (still, with crazy prices).

I'm going to receive the SAA 727 today, so I have them all now!

Going to post some group pictures of them as soon as I have time.

For now: Enjoy the sight of my 747-200

Cheers,

Chris
