Default Herpa A380-800 Qantas

It's huge!

I've added some minor paint details here and there and drilled the APU open. I'm currently awaiting a shipment from Beesmodels and will try to add some antennas.

Anyway, here are some pictures:

Have a nice week!

I purchased the Herpa A380 Qantas some time ago. One of my favorite models and a real stunner. However, my gear is different (and far better) than the one pictured. Mine has rubber tires and metal rims which makes the model look even better. I may be missing something but the picture shown looks to have plastic gear.

The out-of-the-box A380 had unpainted metal rims, but I painted them white to match the prototype (and all have rubber tires).
I further painted the exhaust cones, the fan disks and the insides of the cowlings in a mix of silver/gun metal and black.

The product number is 551991!

I made the base plate on my computer, printed it and laminated it onto a foam board.
It's a very high resolution print and I just use it for taking pictures of my (still growing ) airplane collection. The background is either a low-res print or added after taking the picture.

(I went a little bit overboard with the resolution and details)

Cheers
Chris

Thus far, this is the best plastic A380. The other one worth mentioning
is the Hogan SQ.

EMD F7A, how did you paint the struts silver without taking off the landing gears?

Thanks for the kind words!

The struts were handpainted with a medium/fine brush after removing the clip-on wheels.

On a side note: I am getting my taxiway (30,7 x 20 in.) reprinted by a professional company. Yay!

Presenting a scaled up test print, showing the details usually not visible in 1:200 - Anyone selling large scale jet airliner models?

Compare the quality with the bad quality print shown in one of my posts above.

Yes, you can buy a copy of the taxiway for 60 Euro plus shipping.

Some info I sent a fellow DA.C member:

I did find a suitable company at last! It is offering prints up to 2800 dpi resolution!

As a side note: The common printing resolution for commercial products is around 300 dpi (for printing flyers, business cards etc.) - 1200 dpi is regarded as the reasonable maximum for printing high-res pictures. So, I'm glad I found someone now.

The file is going to get printed on a thick photographic paper with UV-resistant pigmented ink and will receive a protective lamination with a matt finish.

Cheers
Chris

Cool Re: Herpa A380-800 Qantas

But the bigger question is: Did you manage to get the aerials from Martin and apply them? And if you were going to do that, a red anti-collision beacon top and bottom would be nice too. Walthers (you know who these guys are) has MV Products beacon jewels that are exactly like the ones Gemini uses. You would want .52mm in red for this size of a model. There is 4 to a pack (Prod No. 516-301) at $2.20 USD.

Headlight Lens Set -- .052" Red pkg(4) (516-301) -- Walthers Model Railroading

Not yet. I am going to contact him next week about the missing shipment (I still have hope ).
On a side note: I ordered these beacons years ago (for some SP diesel locos) and was told that they are currently sold out/unavailable - I do have some clear ones and I recall I have clear red paint from Tamiya. Maybe I just use the famliy ruby...

Hi Chris !
After this perfect taxiway and the Goldhofer tug maybe you could give us a jetbridge

Ok, just received the first prints. One word so far: Awesome!

Will post some pics this weekend.

Regarding the jetbridge: Great idea. I was considering doing one. Not sure though what construction method to use. Rapid prototyping is way to expensive in this size (although it would be the easiest way to do).
Photoetching might be a good solution (or laser cutting), but I have no idea how or where to look for something like that. Martin Beacom could pull one I am sure.
A classic paper model might be a cheap solution, but that would leave out all the nice details.
Let's see if I can find some drawings for some basic research.
