Default Airplane Shop in New Jersey Visit

I had the fun of visiting the showroom in NJ for the second time. It’s always great to visit a store that is dedicated to our hobby! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The location is essentially a warehouse with a very nice showroom and offices off to the side. You can hear the whir of the forklifts in the back lifting and loading pallets while preparing online orders – at least that was what I envisioned!

Here are some blurry pictures within the store, I stink at holding my phone camera still!

The night before going to the store, I looked thru their website and made a list of the in-stock items I was interested in. After walking around a bit and looking at the stuff I could find, I handed the clerk the printed list and they dug up everything else I had requested. They were very kind as to allow me to open each box and look over every model. I ended up choosing 4 of the 6 they brought up for me, which are pictured in the group shot on my kitchen table back home.

They are the Herpa Lufthansa 747-8, Gemini United Dash 8-Q400, JC Wings Alitalia A320-211, and Gemini, err I mean JC Wings Singapore Jubilee 777-300. I have more close up shots I'll post of each Thursday evening hopefully...

I was fortunate to be able to visit them last October including some time spent 'behind the scenes' in the massive warehouses. Great people there too.

Some lovely models there. The staff sound as helpful and pleasant as they do at ARD on our side of 'the pond' That large scale 1/100? Thai A380 looks good, at least from that angle. Nice to see the inside of a store that I'm very unlikely to be able to visit myself.

Thumbs up Re: Airplane Shop in New Jersey Visit

I've only dealt with these folks via 1-800 phone ordering in the early days. V-E-R-Y courteous and helpful. I would be keen to pop in at the NJ location and check out the showroom -- especially after seeing your photo exposé. Well done!

Frankly, now I don't feel quite so bad paying their slightly higher prices. Time to revisit their site.

Tony, funny you mentioned them as I was in the city a few weeks back and planned a stop at Jan's Hobby on Lex by 94th st., and while doing so I read the night before that Red Caboose was an option. However, after reading so many negative reviews from multiple sources on Red Caboose, I chose to focus my time over at Jan's...

I was at Jan's a year ago and they had a bunch of Hogan models to sift through, as well as a grouping of 1/400 Gemini & Herpas. This time around they had a bunch of Skymarks, were low on stock on the Hogans but expecting more, and a small selection of Gemini & Herpa 1/400 scale stuff. Their prices are higher than typical. Regarding the airliners, they have a limited selection. I check in there occasionally to see if they have any models that are sold out from the major distributors. Jan's has a really nice selection of beautifully built WWII era aircraft, particularly on the German side. They also have tons of plastic model kits. The staff is overall helpful when you ask for assistance.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.... Mom!! I think it's paradise!!!

Ok, ok no. It's only Airplane shop, but I assume you felt like you were entering the heaven's door, right?

Anyway, so you pick only 4 models but what a models. I really considering to buy that Lufthansa B747-8i, pretty nice indeed. Right now I just ordered a pack of accessories from Herpa and Gemini. One of my wishlist models is that german bird. But first I might buy, at least, another Mexicana B727 for my collection.

Great pics, great post and great stuff you got there.

Maybe you should have indicated New York 'and surrounding area'. New Jersey is considered part of that (or so I'm told).

Look at the bright side, old chum -- look at all the cash you saved!!
