Default Re Replacement rims for HobbyMaster Viscount

I have a couple of Hobby Master Viscounts and although I like the models, I was not that happy with the depiction of the wheel rims (Figure 1) specially those for the NLG. Using Powerpoint, I made scalable wheel rims. Here is my replacement technique.
Fig. 2, scale rim images to correct size and print images on regular paper.
Fig. 3, cut the rims out. You don't have to be accurate, cut through the tire close to the rim.
Fig. 4, glue rims to wheel using white glue. You can always peel it off in the future if you change your mind with no damage to the wheels. Using a black felt pen marker, paint the edges of the cut which show the white paper fibers. This step is much easier than it sounds. (The felt pen will also touch the tire). The edge of the paper rim will completely disappear.

The final result is shown in Fig 5. To my eyes, the new rims look a lot better than the original rims specially when I see them from a foot or two away.
Of course, these same rims can be used for other models, like some DC9's which use the same type of wheels.

I have also included a figure with a couple of rims. You can cut and paste this figure into a document, scale it down to different sizes and print them.

Thank you for sharing your technique.

The look of the landing gear is greatly improved.

Something to try ...

As already said, great impact!

There has got to be a market for somebody selling this kind of detailing for different aircraft.

I made a slight modification to the process. I made new wheel rims using graphics from an actual photograph of an Air France Viscount

Here are new new rims. You may copy and paste the picture below into Powerpoint and shrink it 21% before printing it.

The result is shown below

Excellent... Pleas be assured that this was mentioned to HM at release of the very first Viscount...

Now ... Some wing dihedral and replacement of the toffee chewy propellers...

Better still . . . maybe that livery done by Herpa as a companion to the 1953 one?
