Default Urgent wishlist

I'm urgently looking for the following 1:200 models:

(1) Scale 1:200 HS-748 in SAA livery (registration ZS-SBV), PN AV 2748010, part # AV2748010
(2) Scale 1:200 L-749A-79-50 Constellation (registration ZS-DBR) part # CA14P

Can anyone please help or direct?

Having a great conversation with myself, but for what it's worth:

I have found a HS-748 in SAA livery from a very efficient and helpful Raymond Lim of Dai Kong Trading in Kuala Lumpur.

I'm still looking for
(i)
Scale 1:200 L-749A-79-50 Constellation (registration ZS-DBR) part # CA14P
(ii) Scale 1:200 DC-7B in SAA livery

... and the rest of my wish list as posted above (without HS-748)

Can anyone please supply or direct?

Hi Jannie, glad you found the 748. The colours are a bit off, but I still have it in my collection as well.

Of the other models you posed, I am not aware of any 200 scale SAA releases except for the HS748 and the Constellation.

There are plenty of other models besides these, and you might already be aware of them.

My suggestion is to use the database over at DiMA. It is really good.
Here is a suggested search for you.
Diecast Model Aircraft (DiMA)

Good luck in your quest, but I am afraid that to fulfull your wishlist would require someone to do a custom model from a plastic kit. The DC7B might be done by HM at some time as they have a DC7C mould.

You will learn that there is no such thing as 'urgency' in this hobby. The manufucturers are in this for the money. Collectors for the memories. The two don't always align.

Good luck.

Thank you eugenevh!

I have actually already found other 1:200 polished diecast SAA models (featuring springbucks), such as 737, 727, 707, Viscount, and 747's. But, it seems that the DC-7B will indeed have to be a custom paint effort from a plastic kit...

Thanks for your time taken to share your advice.

Touché on the observation, "The manufucturers are in this for the money. Collectors for the memories"

I see you are not located far from me?

All the very best to you and those you love...

Eugene,

PS on the word "urgent" in my original post: you're right, I'm babbling in a language that's not my mother-tongue. I suppose "desperate" or "optimistic" would be more accurate? But, as a master collector you obviously understand the memories and emotions triggered by these models...

nevertheless, I appreciate your guidance and hope to "complete" my collection in good time.

Not to worry.

The models you want would be great additions to any fleet, including mine. If I had the talent to do it myself, I would have. Sadly however, I would create a model which looks like the bastard child of a mating of plastic and glue which has a vague resemblance to something which might once upon a time have been considered a model airplane.

So I would have to pay someone to do those models for me. At the moment however there are plenty of other models released lately which sparks my interest and where my funding goes to.

There is a member on here who is assembling his Air France fleet, by building the missing models and painting them. Very impressive indeed. He has the skill to do that. Now he is a master collector. Me, well, not so much if at all. I just collect models which catches my fancy. Lately that has been a too many, and you know the cost to get models to South Africa is extortionate in some some cases.

Good luck on your quest. With time and patience and some cash, you will reach it eventually. Your collection would then be a sight to behold.

Thanks for your encouragement, Eugene.

I'm determined to get this collection of mine sorted soon. And yes, it is rather ridiculous that in some cases the postage cost more than the item purchased - as if our exchange rate is not detrimental enough...

Jannie,

I've tried to help you in an earlier post by pointing you to the DIMA database which contains the mass-produced models made to date. (there might be some older Long Prosper / Flight Miniatures / Wooster not shown, but they are plastic in any case).

I will try once more, here:
Diecast Model Aircraft (DiMA)

You will notice that search is for SAA planes, B747-400 only and scale 1:200.
None has been made yet.

I am sure that sometime this year Inflight or JC Wings will produce a -400 in delivery scheme. But none exists yet.

If you meant to request someone to make you a custom model, then that is another question entirely and you would have to be prepared to pay a lot. It will be decalled in any case and not tampo printed like regular releases.

PS. Spamming various topics asking the same thing, even it is not related to the subject at hand, is considered bad forum etiquette and will probably not garner much sympathy/help from others. Keep it in mind.
