Default B-17 with exotic painting

I share with you some photos of a Boeing B-17 bomber with an exotic and unusual camouflage. Does anyone know if this plane entered service and what the function of this painting? I count on your visit.

Best Regards.
They are known as assembly ships. War weary (WW) planes that could not be used for active missions were painted in funky colors and designs and used as guides to assemble the bomber stream before departing.

Once the stream departed for the mission, the assembly ship would land back at the home base.

These planes were usually stripped of all armorments and special equipment.

Quite a few assembly B17s and B24s have been done in diecast.

I collect them as one of my themes.

For more examples, you can go here.

An excellent site all around.
