Thumbs up Re: DumboJumbo™ or DumboJet™

At first, I really liked the idea of 'DumboJet™' as suggested by ATupoev. Then 1:200Freak suggested 'DumboJumbo™', and although it takes a micro-second longer to type, it has a certain catchy ring to it. So that is how I made my choice -- 'DumboJumbo™'.

Let's see what the rest of the DA.C electorate have to say, shall we?

(Thanx for setting this up Mr. Freak.)

No worries, Upkeep. If I get an onslaught of remarks for being childish by setting this up, and wasting other's time, I'm blaming it all on you

DumboJumbo was what I submitted to Lufthansa when they were requesting names for their A380, but it was already taken. How they accepted "Lady Bee" is quite bizzare. It looks more like an elephant than a bug

How about a third option: 'Too immature to even participate'?

So your lack of participation would only indicate such, unless you meant "Too mature to participate"

DumboJet™ just sounds a bit too similar to Jumbo Jet and now we can't have that, can we? I think DumboJumbo™ perfectly captures the gracefulness of the A380!

Too immature as in the names. Once accident and the plane is made fun of. I'm sure there are many who are counting the days to get the chance to fly in one of them.

Personally as immense the A380 is, it is one of the most graceful planes when airborne. Like a gentle giant.

Therefore I will stick to WhaleJet™

Just to clarify I felt this way about the A380 before it even took off. It had nothing to do with the incident at JFK, or any other incidents. If you read, I had suggested that name to LH when they were soliciting names prior to their LH A380 even taking to the air. It's just the way it looks, like an elephant a.k.a Dumbo the flying elephant, and due it's jumbo size it gave it a nice ring to DubmoJumbo!! I have nothing against the A380 it's just not a very graceful aircraft to look at (though it is one amazing 1:200 jet)

I agree, its an ugly looking plane, no beauty for sure and cannot be compared to the 747 from any angle.

I think it looks pretty cool actually! Different for sure, but I prefer it's shape and size to a boring A320, 737, etc. any day!

Lol, what do you mean by compare?

I'll agree that I do prefer the 747 from an aesthetics point of view, that bump of the nose gives me quite a hard-on! :P But why does everyone always have to bash the A380 around against the 747? Why can't it compare? It's entire purpose was to compare to it! It's like the 747 has become the gold standard and recognised as the only acceptable jumbojet around. Not that I'm bashing the 747 cause it really is a great aircraft, but can't we be nice to the A380 for once lol! You're hurting it's feelings...

Oh right, back on topic. Given a choice I'd totally go with the Dumbojet!

What was that 'Name the A380' campaign LH had started seeking suggestions from the public and the chosen name was 'Lady Bee'. I still don't get that. haven't seen or heard anything related to that name anywhere.

I've looked long and hard, and have yet to find any 'beauty' in the 747 either. These two belong with each other, IMPO.

No problem.

This name-thing has been bouncing around for awhile now, so it just makes sense for members to have a venue to air their 2¢ worth.

Of course, participation is purely optional.

How can you say that? Those examples aren't even in the same class. And besides . . . I happen to like the design of A320's and B737's. Go easy, young feller.

I think many of these comparisons are only aesthetic in nature. I don't think anyone in their right mind can say the the service record of the 747 was anything less than magnificent. Personally, I think it was a bloody awful looking thing, but it got me to and from Europe on more occasions I care to count -- safely, comfortably (except BA), and reliably. Won't have one in my collection, though.

An A380? Maybe, but it will forever be referred to as: DumboJumbo™ in my world. .

True Story:
"Speedbird 98, Climb and Maintain FL230, caution wake turbulence from DumboJet 11 Miles ahead..."

The British Airways Boeing 777-200 (operating as flight BAW98) was on a scheduled IFR flight from Toronto (CYYZ) to London (Heathrow) (EGLL). The Emirates Airbus A380-800 (operating as flight UAE242) was on a scheduled IFR flight from Toronto (CYYZ) to Dubai (OMDB). NAV CANADA staff at Toronto ACC reported that at 0200Z, BAW98 was 11 miles in trail of UAE242, climbing through 11,000 feet to FL230. UAE242 was through 13,000 feet, climbing to FL230. The BAW98 flight crew reported wake turbulence from the preceding A380. The pilot stated that this was "the heaviest wake turbulence he has ever flown through." The flights continued eastbound without further incident
