Terrific video of a most magnificent aircraft. If only Boeing would see fit to restore the plane.

Thats how aviations should be; beautiful airplanes and happy smiling people to greet after a flight. What a time.

It would have made such perfect sense to roll out the 747-8i on this day too, instead of 4 days later on Feb 13, 2011. Truly the 747-100 was the first of the 747s to be built and the 747-8i would have been the last of the 747 type to be built. All in a matter of 42 years!!

I have the film, 'Building and test flying the 727 and 747 aircraft' on VHS and I remember too, watching how the test pilots and crew fllew the first 747 on that rain and overcast day and then watching the crew walk down the stairs and be congratulated.

This piece of aviation history is keep in shameful condition at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. It deserves a better museum with the resources for a full restore and proper display.

Nice shots Randy!

Love the video, but regarding these old 50s and 60s documentaries, why do all of the voiceovers sound like they graduated from the "Rod Serling School of Narration"?

So this is the very first 747 as in a/c # 1?? From the pics taken back in '69 it looks quite different with a gap in the windows in Zone A and of course a modified livery. I think they made lots of changes to this over the years. Any idea how many hours are on the airframe and if it has a complete interior or is it just a bare shell?

The only question I can answer of yours, Moin, is that I have heard there are no floors, etc. in the aircraft - just the cockpit.

More info:

"The Museum's aircraft was the first 747 ever built - serial number 001. It first flew on February 9, 1969 over Western Washington. Later, this aircraft served as a testbed for 747 systems improvements and new engine developments for other Boeing commercial jets, including the state-of-the-art Boeing 777 engine program."
