Angry Finnair new livery

Probably one the worst liveries I've ever seen...

Looks like a sad attempt at Mexicana's final livery. This livery looks outdated, as opposed to the one they have now; the change makes absolutely no sense. Have livery designers just given up these days?

Are they serious. A white Aircraft with some Dark blue writing on it. 20 Steps backwards from what they used to have...

Nothing says the word ' CHEAP ' like this livery. I have seen low-cost airline liveries with more color and pizazz than this new Finnair livery. What's wrong with their current livery? All it was was a white fuselage with a blue tail and decal. Are they suggesting that their current livery is too expensive to maintain?

Give me a break !

If the Billboard is not big enough, they should also slap the FINNAIR on its belly. Someone from the Executive board who accepted the new livery probably had too much "Finlandia".

The only resemblance I see is the fact that both have billboard titles... Anyway, the new VS livery is a beaut.

Except VS did it right, without losing previous brand identity. Finnair looks like a Mexicana aircraft collided with a Pan Am aircraft, and the fatalities being my eyes.

My guess would be that those 'Fs' are indeed backwards.

This how the starboard side was executed on the previous livery:

Not very imaginative at all. Seems to be a quick slap dash job that didn't require much imagination or expense. Their livery previous to this wasn't that old so why they had to change it again is beyond me.

This LOT "livery" was to be applied on EMB190 first next year, and then on B787. Fortunately this one of worst piece of colour scheme design is postponed - Embraer will arrive in current cs. Hope they'll finally contact some professionals to make really good rebranding.

The livery is just temporary and will be washed off with the new one eventually. This is just an ex-AF aircraft leased to AY few months ago. According to AY the new livery will be revealed on their latest received A330 along with new cabin layout+design.

I think it's smart for the airline to put a livery on like this in order of its cost-effectivness waiting until the new livery. It would also be a good chance for some modelmakers to gain some cash on the market due to its collectible value...

Maybe the Finnair should have kept their blue with white tail, that would be nicer.. And about the new LOT, donnot like it..

With traffic demand expected to double between Asia and Europe by 2015, I can understand why Finnair, LOT and other smaller national airlines have dropped their old motifs (crosses, crowns and birds) for a new and/or revised brand that is and will be more recognizable in the world market.

Let's face it, there comes a time when branding or a portion of branding becomes superfluous due to international growth. As an example, Finnair had dropped its cross motif in favor of an easily recognizable dark blue stylized "F" motif with billboard lettering. This will help their brand recognition as they further expand in Japan and Hong Kong.

Unfortunately the bland colour choice will over power that. Although some aspects of this new livery contain some good branding queues, they are not used effectively enough to attract a large portion of flyers. The billboard "Finnair" is at the point where people will notice it, however they won't be too interested in the product because of its dull colour scheme. Also the negative space on this design does not work too well.

As Long Hauler said, this livery is only temporary. I think we can expect to see a bit more going on in the overall design with the final product.

I hear you on the color scheme of things but I'm going to play the devil's advocate on this one.

The dark blue is actually quite sharp and represents one of the various shades of blue important to the Nordic and Scandinavian countries. The branding cues (billboard & stylish "F") are telling the extended public, "Hey, look at me, I'm expanding so I'll make it easy for you to read." Of course, the billboard works in a number of ways as it did for Pan Am. That airline was saying, "Hey look at me, I'm bleeding red ink but you can't tell because we have big letters."

As for the traveling public, the Finnair's world-class service and re-branding will truly make for a win-win experience.

I understand what your saying. Dark blue is a great colour to represent wold-class service, and has a Nordic background. However, I still think when people see this aircraft, they most likely aren't going to go home and search up flights on Finnair's website. The white space makes the airline look too much like a charter in my honest opinion.

One thing that I do love about this livery is the "F" on the tail. That "F" is so easy to brand on tickets, kiosks, etc... It's so simple, yet stylish, that it will probably become a worldwide icon for Finnair, in which people will see just the symbol, yet instantly refer to Finnair.

It's funny that you mentioned charter because it made me think of the U.S. airlines that got their first crack at the U.K. market. Airlines like National, People Express and Piedmont looked like "fish out of water" when it came to their liveries. From a North Atlanta route perspective, National looked like a holiday charter carrier, People Express looked like a LCC from anywhere and Piedmont couldn't get noticed to save its life. Although Braniff had long plied South America, I never liked their "holiday orange" 747s other than maybe for their domestic Dallas/Hawaii flight.
