Exclamation EXCLUSIVE:Aer Lingus retro 320 for 2011.

Well you're the first to hear(outside EI) about this. EI will be receiving a new a320 next year which for their 75th anniversary will be painted in a retro 60's scheme. Can't wait to see it, and gemini better not let this one go, I'm sure there would be a big demand for this. They will have other celebrations for the anniversary, and a party in May(hope I'm here for that)!

Is that this livery or the previous 'green top' one ?

I think it's this one, it just said the 60's livery which this is...the other one isn't really retro per se.

Granted Ireland's gone arseways but EI is one of the most financially stable airlines now, a lot of cash and profitable. Don't think the euro will go altogether, Ireland's not doing great but the cash is there for a bailout and hopefully we can regain ourselves. €70billion is a lot, but considering most of that is going on one bank(Anglo-Irish) it's not that bad, I don't know the ideas people have of Ireland right now, and I'd actually love to hear them, but nothings changed here, apart from the media stories. 15% unemployment is bad but that does mean 85% are employed that's still a good figure.

Those look great! I can't wait to see the real thing. EI has always had good liveries.

They all look good but yep, 3rd one down would match up with most other EI retro releases.

Guess retro livery is a trend in airline business. Hope to see the old Korean Air livery on a couple of KE birds.

It could be the white top scheme, but that wasn't implemented until 1967, so possibly it's the previous holly-green top scheme?

Any of the previous schemes would be great (but I'm a sucker for the seventies one and it'd match up nicely with the BA Negus 757 to be released by Gemini).

My guess would be that the A330 would cost more to paint, but I'm not quite sure. They may be trying to get the livery flying on domestic and European routes instead of international.

I believe they will be painting a couple of a/c so maybe different liveries, should be getting them around April or so(not 100% sure bout that though).
Yeah I believe the a330 would be a lot more paint and effort and not really appreciated as much as it is on international routes, as opposed to 320's which are quicker routes.

Also as part of the 75th anniversary, an 'Iolar'(Irish for eagle) plane is being restored, not the original one but cool nonetheless. It was EI's first plane.

Are airlines in a competition to see who can out-do the other for the most boring livery?

No, this one was entered into the category: Choose the cheapest retro livery

It would make more sense to paint an A330 in the green top/Belfast shoebox livery, seeing as it actually wore that for a while. I personally think that retro liveries work better on aircraft that wore the livery concerened for real. The BA 757 being a case in point.

That said, I think the A320 looks great and just a pity that it won't be seen around many of the UK airports that are now served by the Aer Aran ATR franchise.

Not with you here Randy, that's a classic Aer Lingus livery.

No, I find it boring (and would've preferred the 80s livery), just like the Continental retro livery they chose (should've been Saul Bass, IMO) and the latest United (again, Saul Bass would've looked better, IMO). Although I think the UA livery they chose would've looked much better on a 757 and not the A320.

Believe it or not I just came from a dinner with Mr Christoph Mueller and the President of Ireland, should've aske him if he'd consider a retro 330. I'm loving this one though.

It's a new A320 so easy enough to paint it up at the factory. No new A330's due and unless there's one due a D-check I doubt they'll bother respraying, great as it would be...

In fairness it is the 75th anniversary so an 80's livery wouldn't really be that appropriate as many people here were alive to see that livery so I think the older White top one is nice in this situation.

I'm thinking it would be better on the Aeroclassics mould, purely from the point of view they've already done several releases on this scheme and we'd have a better chance of the colour schemes matching up.
