This will bring their total A380 order to 90 jets ....Dubai will be the world's "Whale jet" paradise . Their first class showers must be getting extremely popular

ILA: Emirates orders 32 more Airbus A380s

ILA: Emirates orders 32 more Airbus A380s
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Middle Eastern carrier Emirates has ordered another 32 Airbus A380s, the single biggest deal for the type.

The Dubai-based carrier confirmed the agreement at the ILA Berlin Air Show today.

Airbus says the orders are firm, and take its overall A380 customer total to 234 jets.

Emirates' current A380 fleet is fitted with Engine Alliance GP7200 powerplants.

Its decision brings to 90 the number of A380s it has on order, by far the highest commitment by a single customer.

Airbus chief Tom Enders says the agreement was reached "less than 24 hours ago". The deal is worth $11.5 billion at list prices.

Emirates to have 90 A380s in 2017

Emirates to have 90 A380s in 2017
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Emirates is to take delivery of all 90 of its Airbus A380s by 2017, confirming that the additional 32 ordered today will not be replacements for earlier aircraft.

The Dubai-based carrier's president, Tim Clark, also says that the jets will be fitted with Engine Alliance GP7200 powerplants, in line with the 58 A380s it previously ordered.

Speaking during the ILA Berlin Air Show, Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum said the jets would all be delivered by 2017.
"Our latest commitement signals Emirates' confidence in the growth to come in a thriving aviation sector," he adds.

The airline took its first A380 in 2008 and says it would not retire these early airframes before 2020. None of the additional 32 jets would be needed for replacement, it states.

Airbus is working to ramp-up production of the type, after battling to smooth the workflow. Chief executive Tom Enders says the first available production slot is in 2015.

Emirates Orders 32 Airbus A380 Super Jumbos

8 June 2010, 3:28 PM
Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline placed an order with Airbus for an additional 32 A380 aircraft taking the total firm order for the iconic flagship of the 21st century to 90 super-jumbos.
The order for the additional aircraft has a list price of $US 11.5 billion (AED 42.2). The agreement was signed today during a ceremony at the Berlin Air Show by His Highness (H.H.) Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group and Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO which was witnessed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other dignitaries. fficeffice" />>>
“This latest order, adding to 58 A380s previously ordered, affirms Emirates’ strategy to become a world leading carrier and to further establish Dubai as a central gateway to worldwide air travel. The A380 is our flagship in terms of passenger comfort, innovation, operating and environmental efficiency and revenue generation,” said H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al- Maktoum. “Our latest commitment signals Emirates’ confidence in the growth to come in a thriving aviation sector as we build our fleet for tomorrow,” he added. >>
“Emirates supported the development of the A380 from the earliest days, a project employing tens of thousands of Europe’s best people and today’s increased order, is the best endorsement I can imagine. On behalf of all of us at Airbus, we thank Emirates for their support. The A380 is indeed a remarkable eco-efficient aircraft, a profit generator for airlines and a great flying experience for passengers,” said Tom Enders. >>
Emirates, the second largest airline in the world in available seat kilometres, is on track to become one of the largest airlines in the world. In addition to the orders placed today, Emirates has 48 Airbus 380s, 70 Airbus 350s, 18 Boeing 777-300s and 7 Boeing air freighters on order totaling 143 wide-body aircraft worth more than $US 48 billion. >>
In a year where the aviation industry was rocked by the economic downturn, Emirates Airline recently reported its 22nd year of profit, up 416 percent to close at US$ 964 million (AED 3.5 billion) over its 2008-09 profits of US$ 187 million (AED 686 million). From the delivery of its first A380 in July 2008, to receiving it 10th A380 on 7th June 2010 from the Airbus plant in Hamburg, Emirates is now serving eight international destinations with the super-jumbo aircraft including London Heathrow, Toronto, Paris, Jeddah, Bangkok, Seoul, Sydney and Auckland. >>
The airline will start A380 services to Beijing from 1st August, Manchester from 1st September and will return service to New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport on 1st October. Emirates’ looks forward to expanding the list of destinations at more than 100 airports around the world as A380s become ready.

Don't be deceived. Everything about Dubai is a "mirage". They were in really bad shape and I think are still recovering from it.

However, it makes one wonder where in the world they plan to fly their whales! I wonder what their load factors are on the A380 flights?

Great news for Airbus & the A380 project, but would have been nice to see a new A380 customer for a change... yawn.

It just sounds a bit boring now to hear "Oh look Emirates, have ordered some more A380s"

Must be one of the most dull, yet good news of 2010

Well, they currently fly to over 100 destinations worldwide. So is there a possibility of an A380 being put onto every single route?

I can eventually see for the UK, that all 5 EK flights to LHR becoming A380. Manchester is already getting the A380 from September. Maybe a few will be put to use to London Gatwick & Birmingham too, as those flights seem quite busy.

Wonder if EK will start deploying the whales to LAX & SFO too, as was planned a while back?

Abu Dhabi Not happening, as it's too short a route, and secondly it's Etihad's domain....Pretty soon Etihad will be having their own Whalejets, but not an insane number as Emirates!!

Some of EK routes are two class only, that is Business and Economy. Flying the A380 on those routes would mean the re-introduction of First Class. I wonder if any of EK Whalejets would actually be a two class product, that is no First Class and relevant showers on board.

PS: Interesting to also note that LH's First Class though no showers is huge, when compared to other traditional First Class products.

Why are all of you saying this is crazy yet you don't back up your statements.
Surely this should be considered a healthy sign in the aviation industry and that perhaps world economics may be improving.
off the cuff unsubstantiated statements are crazy!

Well done Airbus and congrats EK.
EK recently recorded a USD1bn+ profit so they must be doing something right notwithstanding all you armchair CEOs.

While I have no idea where they're going to deploy 90 A380's when they have them all, I think it's great that they have such confidence in the aircraft to order SO MANY!

I recently flew aboard two of their A380's and they were outstanding.

In other ways I think this shows other airlines that Emirates is happy with its order and the aircraft itself and just continuing to expand. I'm not sure whether this will put the likes of Etihad and Qatar on notice?

Will any of these be convertible to A380-900's if Airbus ever decides to put that version into production?

DXB is already bursting at the seams, Emirates will really need JXB up and running sooner than later I think

EK is Putting A380s on Ultra Long Haul Routes, 777s on Domestic Routes and Airbuses on Regional routes. Jeez, EK is one of those Carriers rebelling against the RJ Revolution. Looks like ALL Long Haul for them really. So now that you ordered almost 100 Fatjets on a hysterical Shopping Spree, how about upgrading the YYZ Route to Daily Service?

Realistically, how are they gonna fill over 45,000 seats on their Whalejets? They will have to keep them busy on most of their routes. They need more flights and they need MUCH Cheaper fares. If you have people not willing to pay $7000+ Roundtrip for Economy class, you're screwed unless you 'rrroollll it back!'

Where are all the other Airbuses and Boeings gonna go (The ones that are sized proportionately)? Are they that big of a Carrier that they need 90 500+ seat jets plus countless other widebodies to operate? They still have A350s on order too. I am anxious to see how this will turn out.

Meanwhile in the Land of the Living:
@Hogan, this is your Queue to Release an EK A380 in 1:200!
@GJ, Please no more.

So presumably this brings Airbus within touching distance of that magical 'break even' sales figure of what was it again...250 ?

Sure does Alan.

And to the other posters, if this is crazy why are EK about to take loads mre 77Ws or is that good because they're Boeing made.
Perhaps they know how to develop a strategy.

Oh dear... I am very happy for Emirates and especially for Airbus. The A380 is such a great airplane. I was amazed by it's sound: I was just about 400m away and I didn't hear ...anything. Even an A319 is louder, at least in relation to its size.
What does this tell us? The A380 is a very efficient aircraft, which is also very quiet. And some of you are still asking, why they order lots of them?

If you'd have the choice between flying on a B777 and the A380, at least 2/3 of you would prefer the A380, wouldn't you?

Apart from that, they can offer direct connections to most of the important wordwide hubs, which seems to me, is the actual intent.

And if this somehow doesn't work out, they could start serving Japanese domestic flights :P

Mabe Mabe Not. You Have To Remember Gate And Landing Fees Are Priced At
Number Of Seats On Board, Not Number Of Passengers. I Heard Reports Some Of The Flights On Those 380s Only Have 100 Or So Pax At Times.
Think Of It Landing Fees 13,000 PLUS 8,000 Gate Costs, PLUS 16,000 De-Icing Fees, PLUS Ground Service Fees. And The Fees Are Not Reduced Simply Because There's Only 100 Pax On Board. At 100-150 Pax, How Will They Make Money?
They Make Money Now Because They Have The Right Aircraft Matched With Each Route. At The Moment They Can Absorb Some Losses But When They Have 90 In Thier Fleet With 20-30% Capacity?
But We All Know EK Is Planning A Worldwide Superhub Through DBX. Perhaps Switching Thier Business Model To Include Mostly LC Fares To Fill The Planes Could Work. I May Not Be An Airline Exec, But It Doesn't Take A Genius To See You Can't Fill 90 Of These Things With Premium Fares. Not Now, And Not In The Future. Personally I Think They're Trying To Open An Untapped Market Where Hundreds Of Millions Of Passengers Throughout Asia That Currently Would't Even Dream Of Travelling Simply Because Current Fares Are Not Within Thier Means Or Just Out Of Reach.

You know what else I can not fathom or understand? It is that Airbus's main concept for the A380 was that it would enable there to be less airplanes in the sky and therefore less polution and trafic. Well apparently not cuz ONE airline has more than 90 Fatsies now. You guys know what this means right? It means that their "cleaner skies" concept has been shot in the head because now instead of having congested skies, we have congested skies with the biga$$iest airplanes in the world.

The Cleaner Skies Was Only A Small Selling Point.
I Think The Real Point Of Selling The Size Was To Reduce Movements And Congestion On The Ground And At The Gates. That IS A Huge Selling Point.

I wanna see Delta buy some and put them on the Shuttle routes. Two Jetways to the bottom, two to the top, no bags allowed. Every half-hour out of DCA.

Try a little research Saladin, the skies are much cleaner nowadays since the DC-8 and 741... and (ahem) Trident 3...
