Default Have any of you flown the A380?

I've been researching flights to LHR on 30th September. Because there are no direct flights out of PSP, I'm having to connect through LAX, SFO, SEA, or a number of other cities. Whilst I prefer to fly Virgin, I'm also considering BA. I noticed BA has A380 service from SFO or LAX to LHR. I've never flown in an A380. Have any of you? If so, what was your impression?

I have 8 times (7 on Emirates, 1 on Etihad), and there's nothing just like it. Definitely a must have on any aviation enthusiasts checklist before they are gone. For sure the most comfortable plane in the skies.

Yes, for sure one of the most comfortable airplane - if not the most!

I flew Air France A380 3 times, yet to try another company. I was supposed to fly Qantas last summer but hey Covid!.

6 times 2 each on BA, LH, and SQ. The first impression: very quiet!

I flew 4 times. 2 flights were on Emirates (Moscow-Dubai-Seoul) and 2 flights were on Asiana (Seoul - Bangkok -Seoul). Asiana A380 has economy cabin on the upper deck and between seat and window there is a storage place (like on 747 upper deck), which gives you more space and it was pretty comfortable to sleep as well if you put pillow on top of this storage.

Twice, both to BKK. Comfortable, quiet and smooth. Just a shame airlines are dropping them

Superb aircraft and by far the best for Long Haul. Noticeably quieter cabin than any of the Boeing alternatives. Have flown multiple UAE, QTR, SIA, and BAW. Go for it before they're gone.

Great bird to fly long haul. The EKA380 was very quiet and spacious on the main deck when we flew on it about 11 years ago. I agree with the several DAC members above on their experiences. Sad that the A380 will be disappearing from our skies. T7

Thanks to all for your comments! I want to book by the end of the month, but I'm somewhat hesitant to book these A380 flights out of concern they'll either be cancelled or BA will switch equipment as the flight dates get closer. I don't know how often that happens. Getting flights out of/into Palm Springs is a pain, I'm assuming due to flight cutbacks due to COVID. (I didn't live here prior to COVID.) I can't even get a non-stop flight to ORD! And some service is seasonal, such as PSP - JFK on JetBlue.

I did economy on Qantas from Dallas to Sydney R/Trip. Nothing unusual..Window is pretty far from seat though you have to really lean into it to see out.
Lower deck... rear...Quite a long flight though..

Been on Singapore Airlines A380 several times and it is a cracking experience even in economy. Absolutely lovely plane to fly on, very quiet, plenty of room, nice ambience.

BA outbound-lower deck economy at the back/inbound business upgrade lower middle. (SFO-LHR, return)

LH upper deck economy at the very back. N.B. You have your own enclosed little section of about 20 other pax. Highly recomended economy class if the Airline offers this configuration. (SFO-FRA, return).

SQ Premium Economy lower deck bulkhead seat. Next to the left engines, still very quiet!! (JFK-SIN via FRA, return)

Thanks so much! I was thinking of flying Club World on the outbound portion so I'd have a lay flat seat, and World Traveller Plus on the return. I've a feeling their A380 aircraft doesn't have the new Club Suite seats like their A350 aircraft do.

I've done about 7 flights on Qantas A380's.
SYD-LAX
LAX-SYD
SYD-DXB
DXB-LHR
DXB-SYD
SYD-DFW
DFW-SYD
Even in economy, I managed to get a decent nights sleep on most of the overnight sectors, especially on the DFW-SYD flight.
A very comfortable and quiet aircraft!!

Wow, I feel rather left out & behind the times! So many of you have flown this aircraft. But I guess because I've only flown SEA-LHR/LHR-SEA & LHR-LAX and mostly on Virgin, I've not had much opportunity to fly in one.

2015 - SQ A380 Singapore Sydney
2019 - EK A380 Toronto - Dubai - Toronto

(Would have so loved to have flown on Etihad's A380s. They won't be coming back).

Like most have said I will echo as well that it's a great plane to fly on. So spacious in Economy or at least you get that sense when in your seat. Quiet yes, but not good with screaming babies.

And if you are fortunate to sit in front of the engines which is possible with most airlines as First and Business are usually on the upper deck, the view of them all the flight long is amazing. Got some really good footage when we flew over Greenland. Same with the engines on the Boeing 777-300ERs.

I think airlines that have the A380 will do well as passengers will opt for a trip on the big whale even if it means a stopover. Qatar's Abu Baker said they were loss generating planes and he was clearly hinting at Emirates when he said they think they will try to make a profit out of their planes. Only time will tell if pax want to fly the A380.

Now Randy, get yourself booked on an A380 😉. You will love the flight ♥️. I would wait till BA actually starts using these planes where they are expected to resume service with before making a booking

If I am not mistaken British Airways used to fly the big bird out of Vancouver pre-Covid. You could take the flight out of there if they do return. Vancouver is gorgeous too as a destination.

You should post the footage you recorded to your YouTube channel!

According to SeatGuru, BA has Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller on the upper deck. First is on the lower deck only for some reason. I really want to sit in the upper deck. I'm curious if it's any quieter than the main deck.

From what I've read, BA is restoring A380 service sometime in July to/from SFO & LAX. Despite the fact I'm close to LAX, there aren't many flight options from PSP to LAX. There's only one shuttle and that costs $300 one way. And a train/bus takes 6 hours!

I need to book soon because flights from PSP to SFO are filling up and they aren't cheap, either.

Yes, BA offered A380 service to/from YVR. The problem I'm having is finding flights in/out of PSP. So many flights in/out of PSP are seasonal. Air Canada's service to/from YVR doesn't begin again until Autumn.

2 round trips for me. one on asiana and one on lufthansas. I had better experience on asiana. got the best economy seat which was on the back of the 2nd deck where you get extra elbow room and storage space for the window seats. So quiet on take off compared to other planes.

Should book one asap if you haven't experience a380.

i should say i went out of my way and pay a little higher to book both of those flights on a380 instead of just getting the cheapest flight possible. I think a lot of people also do that too!

Try this site to find A380 flights: https://www.iflya380.com/en.html?origin=JAX

I don't know how updated it is nowaday but it would be sad if this site goes away!

Thanks! It hasn't been updated to reflect the retirements but the booking flights feature is current. I still want so much to fly Club World on the outbound flight & World Traveller Plus on the return. Or even World Traveller on the return. I understand 25D is an excellent seat because there's no seat in front of it so lots of legroom!

I did LHR to CDG with Air France when they were doing training flights when they first took delivery of the type. A really comfortable aeroplane. A great shame they never gained more popularity.

I had a nice frontal view of the engines in ecnomy from DXB-LHR, the flight was only half full on this sector! Actually had the option of sitting on the top deck, wish I had.
