caught this on A.Net today...this is the quote:

"Looks like #BritishAirways will repaint at least one and maybe 4 aircraft in retro livery to celebrate their 100th anniversary this year . One may be in the #Landor livery and the possibility of a #BOAC & perhaps a #BEA #RetroJet "

OH!!!!!!!!!!! I'm flying British in June so I'll keep my fingers crossed one of the 747s I'll be on is painted in a retro livery! Though June may be too soon for them to get the planes painted.

Announcement from BA today:

"As part of our centenary, we will be painting a Boeing 747 in the much-admired design of our predecessor - British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC).
The livery from the 1964-1974 BOAC era - will adorn a B747-400, registration G-BYGC. The aircraft will leave the paint shop in Dublin and arrive in to Heathrow on February 18, before entering service the following day. This coincides with the 50th anniversary of the first Boeing 747 flight only a few days earlier.

The BOAC 747 will be the first aircraft to receive a popular design from our past with details of further designs to be revealed in due course. Aircraft which receive the retro liveries will go on to showcase them around our route network.
The BOAC livery will remain on the Boeing 747 until it retires in 2023".

I agree. Would have been nice if they could have done at least a chrome paint if a polished metal belly truly isn't possible.

The way the did the engines is also kinda retarded.

Otherwise, this is a really great scheme. Nice to see this. Simple, nothing overly complicated, good colors, cheatline, clean. It's better than 75% of current liveries out there. Might have to buy a model of this.

also noticed a slight change on the cheat line on the nose, rather than a simple straight line they have curved it slightly creating a very subtle V. i like it.

Wonder how many are now going on Google images to have a look.

I think I see what you mean. That's just a discrepancy on part of the paint shop rather than any intentional change to the livery.

Just goes to show, people like to complain about crooked painting on models, well, sometimes it happens on real airplanes too.

No need to apologize. Good eye, and I see what you mean. I was just saying that in my opinion, the cheatline dipping down a bit at the nose wasn't an intentional modification to the livery, but merely an accidental outcome. It's so slight that it isn't even noticeable from a side profile view. Of course, I could be wrong...

The BOAC 747 came over work yesterday instead of going east along M4 corridor, and it was cloudy.....so maybe next time.
