Default My trip to Mojave, Palmdale, Victorville 4/23/2020

Having been forced to fly cross country due to a family emergency (Orlando-Las Vegas) once the personal issues were settled, I dedicated one full day to myself to get away. The plan was to visit Mojave, Palmdale and Victorville all in the same day. I met my good friend from DAC Homer for half the trip. I started out at 7:30 am and finished back in LAS at 7:30 pm. Total miles driven 524. Some side notes:

1) MCO to LAS SW 737-800 load factor 18 people. No snack or berverage service allowed so had to stock up prior to flight. Return flight had 24 passengers same situation with no snacks and drinks, a no go.

2) Mojave Airport I took lots of photos but nothing no one has ever seen before all the usual stuff from years ago. I did catch the Virgin Orbital 744 being prepped. That was worth the whole trip and so was the NASA Convair 990 on display too.

3)Palmdale..nothing there except a nice museum which was closed so I took 2 shots from the road of the NASA Orbital 747 and a really nice C-46.

4)Victorville...all I can say is WOW. I witnessed aviation history. I know there are thousands of photos and videos all over the internet of the stored planes there but to see it in person is beyond amazing. As always you cant get anywhere near the ones stored out on the runways. In fact one of two runways is closed and that is where a majority of the Delta and Southwest planes arel parked diagonally all in rows. You can however get close to the action by the hangers with no security to give you a rough time. My pictures suck as I am not a photographer, just used my cell phone which was nearly impossible due to the sun glare on the phone. The Qantas 744 was really really old completely faded and being towed into the hangar for what?? I dont know. I took lots of videos but cant post those here. My original plan was to meet up with my good friend Sam Chui but he left a day before and did the same thing I did by air. He most likely will post that video soon. The ECO GREEN 777 looked amazingly shiny brand new. Not bad for a 20 year old 777 previously flown with Air China. Tons of 737 Max stored cool to see all the exotic far off carriers too.

5) Several attempts to eat at In and Out burger on this trip all failed with excessive long lines at the drive thru..

You were fortunate to be able to do this, Russell. FYI, your photos aren't sideways when you click on them to enlarge.

I had to chuckle when I read your In-N-Out comment. I have a friend who lives in Westlake Village and she regularly teases me by sending me photos of her In-N-Out meals!

I found that odd too as it was really old. Still had the gold stripe wrapped around the red tail and totally faded out..hopefully it is finding a new life..

As mentioned earlier I had planned on meeting Sam in Vegas a day earlier but he cancelled to head out for this video. He did the same trip same day via air. I can attest it was very windy that day thus the turbulence. I'm somewhere on the ground in that video .,
