Sad news, but every airliner has its day. My favourite, in joint place with my beloved Caravelle. Designed, like all Soviet airliners, to meet the specifications dictated by a the needs of a command economy rather than commercial priorities. A successful design with the USSR and its ‘satellite’ clients airlines. I flew on the Tu134 four times in all, a little noisy in the cabin, a great sound though. The sensation on take off of being pushed into the back of your seat, and the amazing rate of climb made riding on this hot rod a great experience. Back in 1981, I once had a lift on an Aeroflot 134 from Aberdeen to Heathrow which was performing an empty positioning flight. For the final twenty minutes the crew insisted I sat in the navigators nose seat for the remainder of the flight. Flying over London at night with the wonderful lights of the city below was amazing. The ground sure comes up fast upon landing when you’re sat there!

A lovely looking aircraft, sad to see it go from non military service.

I was fortunate enough to fly on several Tu-134s in Russia during their last years in service, including the last Alrosa one:

Alrosa Air Company Tu-134B-3, RA-65693
Turukhan Airlines Tu-134A-3, RA-65052 & RA-65083
Kosmos Airlines Tu-134A-3, RA-65995 (VIP) & RA-65726

I plan to do some write ups on these trips, which hopefully I will be able to share here when I finally get around to it. I have plenty of photos and videos.
