Default New United Livery Leaked

I don’t mind it personally. The purple is nice, but I think the United titles are a bit oversized.

Yet another boring copy cat livery with the swoosh on the tail into the lower fuselage bit.

FYI, that BA Mini was done in Photoshop in about 20 minutes.

P.S., the new livery is poo.

I never liked the Continental globe logo to begin with, only when they had the famous meatball logo which was a better design/ livery IMO.. speaking of the boring Continental globe logo, even Copa Airlines has a much better & stylish 'globe' logo.. so bring back the familiar United Tulip logo and drop the boring Continental globe logo fast already..

Below is a example of Copa Airlines logo, much better design..

If those are indeed the options, it would take some getting used to. Reminds me of Alaska, but not as nice.

From the website:

"Update: One Mile At A Time has noted that the below livery is NOT United’s new livery after a spokesperson reached out to them."

Someone on One Mile at a time comments; "So United and Alaska are merging then?"
I have to agree. This rendering, true or not reminds me of the new ASA Eskimo livery. But then this is even worse than that. Besides how in the world do they expect to paint the title over the pax windows? SWA tried it and some letters in the title look stupid, Once in service, the pretty ivory white fuselage will be dirty filthy then it'll really look like caca. Just another Plane Jane livery w/ a purple swoosh. Goofy AF, hate it.

I made this the other day for fun. Sometimes having the livery over the windows doesn't necessarily take away from the aesthetics...

And folks on A.net pretty much had this nailed with their renditions. I was hoping they were wrong. Lol.

Seriously. When did CO switch to the globe tail? Early 90's? That was a long time ago. Now we have another variation of it for at least 10 years. This was the perfect opportunity to bring back the much loved Tulip. Very disappointing.

hmmmm... left sitting on the fence with the new livery... not terrible but not outstanding either... I think it makes the Brand look cheaper... always liked the current livery, all be it CO pre merger livery, thought the gold was a nice touch...

The tail design looks like a cable news network now. I just can't stomach it. Why even bother painting the engines blue? If you're cheapening your brand's look even further, why waste company funds on paint?

Just leave it like this. This looks so much better. Just put some clear coat on it and call it a day.

Is the underside swoosh part of the new design, or still part of the Boeing Dreamliner stuff? Don't mind the new title on the fuselage, though it could be better. But the tail, meh. Glad I'm sitting on the inside and don't need to see it throughout the entire flight.

It's neither. It's a further iteration of Continental Airlines.

I don't understand why United wants to keep the 'Continental' brand & logo alive.. just get rid of it and promote & develop your own Corporate image because what i see here are two different airline identities being promoted.. for example when American took over rival U.S Airways, they did away with the latter name, brand, logo, image & even call sign.. same for Delta & Southwest, Southwest didn't even retain any of AirTran Boeing 717 aircraft and ended up selling them all to Delta i believe..

The United 787 livery is much better.

This new one looks very amateurish and unprofessional. The colours are unbalanced

It would seem that most here agree that United has taken a rather questionable brand identity direction. To those who are too young to remember, UAL was one of the top Airlines in the U.S., if not the premier Airline during the '80s/'90s while adorning the stunning and instantly recognizable and respected Saul Bass livery. Its crisp, rainbow-like colors, along with the proudly displayed "Tulip" on a white canvas signified elegance and a whimsical motif that will be cherished by all who knew of and/or saw it in person.

Then, during the mid to late '90s, someone decided to do a 180 and change the livery to a dark/menacing grey and blue color shift known anecdotally as "Battleship Grey." However, UAL still incorporated the Tulip in the new livery because Tulip = United Airlines. It was already embedded into pop culture worldwide. This new livery, I suppose was meant to mean "Business" to the world (many people had the same reaction to BA's Landor livery). Regardless, the U.S.S. Battleship United played out its course and mercifully relinquished its dark demeanor to the almost perfect personification of beauty: the "Blue Tulip."

It was known as an homage to the Saul Bass era with an even larger monotone Tulip on the tail and a 5 tone gradation from an upper-white fuselage to a deep blue bottom. To further hearken back to the glory days of UAL, the original Tulip was placed before the UNITED titles which were in large black bold sans serif font. And even the font was tweaked so as to not look as dull as the new livery has chosen to adopt. Looking back at the Blue Tulip livery now, it is extremely difficult for me to pick a favorite between the original Saul Bass and the homage. If it weren't for the sentimental value of Saul Bass' design, I would probably choose the Blue.

Which brings us to the complete disregard and, for some reason, effort to completely distance itself from the established decades-long incorporation of the Tulip: the merger with Continental Airlines. Never had I seen a more complete and total elimination of a corporate identity overnight in my lifetime. To many, it was just a "meh" moment. But for aviation enthusiasts like me, it was a slap in the face - almost a mockery and a blatant tell-all to the aviation industry that "We have conquered our rival Continental Airlines, and to further shame them, shall wear their livery," like Hannibal Lecter did with peoples' faces. But bastardized it even more by eliminating the colorful blue serif titles with a horrible san serif Helvetica type font. It took me a few double-takes to actually see that those were United planes and not Continental. It was that lazy.

Which takes us to today. The embodiment of complete assimilation into the herd. No spirit, no effort to be different, no soul. Just another forgettable page in UAL's history to endure until the next disappointment, OR hopefully, redemption.

This is a complete and utter mischaracterization of what actually happened. Seriously, your posts are full of emotion and hyperbole, and very lacking in facts. Do you know why the new United kept the Continental imagery? It's because at the time of the merger, and for at least the previous decade, Continental was the more prestigious brand. CO was better off financially, had a better corporate culture and employee morale, and was viewed more favorably by the traveling public. CO was also ahead of United in metrics such as on time performance, fewer lost bags, etc.

Oh, and there's also the fact the Continental's top executive took the helm of the new United, and although corporate offices were moved from Houston to Chicago, much of the new United management was and is former Continental folk, not United. To say that United "conquered" its rival and wore their livery to "shame" them is a complete falsification. The intentions were for Continental to continue in spirit and in image--as the better brand of the time--but United to continue in name simply and only because it was the larger airline. Unfortunately, a sinking ship usually brings down those around it, and despite best intentions, post-merger United did not emerge with all the goodness of Continental still intact.

Do you know many Continental/United employees? There's a reason pre-merger United people are mostly indifferent about the merger, while Continental employees, almost categorically speaking, were staunchly against it and remained bitter for years after.

Of course, most people moved on long ago and accepted the new reality, but it seems a few nutjobs are stuck in the past. And by the way, you are really in the minority for not liking the UA battleship scheme, and actually preferring the 2004 "Rising Blue" scheme. Just goes to show how out of touch your taste and perception is.

United dragged down Continental with it. It's a shame. I don't like the new livery at all, and would have gladly seen the Continental globe retired. But DC-10_Tony needs to tone it down with his posts based entirely on emotion and little regard for fact. Is he off his meds?

I don’t care about the stats of who was better...To me when I look at the current and the upcoming New livery ( boring in my opinion) I don’t see UNITED. I see CONTINENTAL. I honestly think they should have redesigned the whole logo into something fresh and a different look. I do like the logo but to me that’s Continental and not UA.
Just my thoughts. That’s main reason why I don’t collect this livery. It’s a lost identity 😞

I agree Homer, I only see Continental, not United. I had thought about getting the 747 Final Flight model, but just didn't like the current colors enough to do it.
Bring back the tulip in some form!
