Greetings fellow members,
Just wanted to share with you a recent spotting trip that took place in a very special building - the (now former) SFO ATC Tower. In October the new tower began operations but unfortunately the former tower blocks the view of a taxiway runway intersection. As a result (and in typical SFO fashion) they're tearing it down along with some upper floors (built in 1954) in the coming days/weeks.
However SFO has a monthly plane spotter meet-up and this month they made it in the old tower! It was quite the experience walking through the building and into the tower cab, but we could only reserve one 30 minute slot. Following are images of the tour. For those unfamiliar with San Francisco International, here is a shot of the three towers:
The tallest (Left) is the new tower, the middle one is the one we were in, and the bottom right one is the original 1954 tower.
