This is a very interesting article! Hopefully Boeing can get more orders for the 747. Thanks for sharing!

Actually, I've heard of Air Bridge Cargo and Volga-Dnepr before too.

Interesting. I'm familiar with VDA because their AN-124s come over to Moffett Field every so often, and I believe an ABW B748F passes by daily.

It's interesting how there can be a need for a 747 (or A380 for that matter).... some airlines and freight lines depend on them... and yet, that need isn't enough to support the production line. A perfectly good aircraft (with sure orders for years down the line) can shut down just because there are no orders RIGHT NOW. But, that's business!

I heard sometime in the past that Volga Dnepr was mooting the start of a UK subsidiary with UK registered aircraft. I wonder if this latest order will incorporate any of those plans...Air Foyle / HeavyLift Airlines 747-8 anyone?

Well, Volga-Dnepr is definitely not "never heard of" but a pretty well known airline and the only AN-124 operator we get to see here in Europe.

Off topic: does anybody use a Super Guppy nowadays? The Airbus-owned are out of service since the Belugas based on the A300 entered service almost 20 years ago.

Good question.

Boeing themselves uses the Dreamlifter as far as I am aware (Modified 747).

Airbus is planning the A330 "Beluga XL".

I imagine the Guppy's time has passed.

Back to the topic.
I thought the polical environment would provide extremely difficult for a Russian airline to order Boeing equipment. Both internally from Russia and then sanctions as well.

Even if a loophole for the above can be found, it is just a matter of time before the 747 program dies. Only so many cargo carriers to sell.

Well, Aeroflot operates 777-300ERs. I believe the rest of their fleet is Airbus or
Russian aircraft. But they do have those Boeings already

Thanks. That's what I thought, but the latest pictures I have with NASA Super Guppys date back from the 1980ies...

Already started several months ago, utilising the 744F.
