About a half dozen or so L.1011's have been converted to freighters. Most are ex BA -200's, and were sold to Kalitta, Arrow Air and FineAir. All three nicely done by GJ...
I think there are a couple more out there, withTradewinds ?
Main problem with the L.1011 as a freighter is the same as hindered its sales as a PAX aircraft - insufficient range! The Dc-10 is a lighter airframe than the L.1011. Only FedEx wants the DC-10-10 as a freighter, useable on domestic flights and common with the -30's. Most of the DC-10 freighters are -30's (and a few -40's), and have trans Atlantic / Pacific range.
Why no more Tristars being converted? Too many reached end of economical life as PAX aircraft! I understand many had corrosion problems, and problems with the insulation on the electrical wiring cracking and falling away, causing short circuits. Too expensive to replace, so off to the parking lots.
The L.1011-500's are still pretty active, but doubtful they will be converted as they lack the cubic capacity.
